I don't understand this logic. You don't need to shell out for something as needlessly expensive as an Alienware computer - you can get a decent rig for about 1.5 times the price of one of the new-gen consoles, which would perform significantly better.

Maybe someone could not afford a new computer at all, and certain things were marginally more vital. Or other sources of entertainment could be built up over time instead. Or that an xbox was bought first then all those other things happened.

I currently play on a laptop provided for free by my college
