the dude wasnt a bad scout, was one of the original streamers (first scout streamer i can remember for a long time) and did his best to upload as many vods/povs/content as possible

hes been kinda irrelevant for a while now and the whole "making a big deal about quitting and switching to a superior game" thing is never cool and always kinda just fishing for compliments (sup fog) but i totally understand why a lot of the newer players dont really have any idea who he is

I still use his mumble overlay, <3 SO good, too bad he's been inactive for quite a while

I'm pretty sure those were some off record "funny" comments he made to someone on steam and he never expected it to be posted and amplified on tf.tv as such.

Wow, I wish someone linked me this thread. Maybe I have to clear up some stuff. It will be two parts, one why I started raging, the other with maybe some background information about competitive TF2.

I basically "quit" competitive for over a year now because of my current job. I currently work at ESL TV and therefore work mostly in the evenings or are away to an event for 10 days.

The reason I posted this was because I had very bad experiences for 2 weeks in a row with TF2. It was Christmas holiday and I finally had time to play a lot of TF2.

Sadly every mix/lobby/pug I played ended in to a disaster. People leaving, people not showing up, people showing up 30 minutes late, people not on Mumble. Okay, sometimes this happens, but if it's match after match it really gets to you at some point.

I'm not saying other communities are better in general, the DotA 2 community is definitely not the right example, neither is CS:GO or any other game. I think TF2 community is one of the better communities out there.

But when it comes down to competitive TF2, in my opinion the community is very lazy and spoiled. I never experienced an official 6v6 match that started at the agreed time.
Always delay, people smoking one more cigarette, going for a piss, getting a glass of water. I have to blame myself for this too, I always got coffee and water right before the match, so I sometimes delayed it too.

The "community" complains TF2 is not being taken seriously by the esports communities/companies and we sort of have to blame ourself for that.
I agree, ETF2L is an amazing website, just because it's so easy and everything is about TF2. But we want(ed) the bigger competitions and we bailed out on ESL when we had the chance.

At the time the ESL anti-cheat was very buggy for TF2, a lot of people with crashes, FPS problems and so on. So it's not all to blame on us. But with ETF2L around that worked "good" and "flawless", it was very easy to pop back over to there.

ESL looks a lot at activity on the website, if a game has weekly cups that are very popular, there's a big chance it will be added to the Go4 system. Which means money cups every week with a bigger prize pool at the end of the month with the qualified teams. From there on a intentional sponsor might be interested to add it to the EMS (One) (soon to be ESL One). Where you have a lot of qualifiers with LAN finals in the end.

It's amazing how we built up something like ETF2L and that it's still going strong. It might be a bit too late now, but sticking with websites like UGC and ETF2L are not going to bring competitive TF2 forward.

People must know that there are a lot of "higher up" people in esports (not calling names) really like TF2. Hell, even CGS had it in their Pro-Am circuit.

Anyway, I'm back to playing TF2 every now and then, sadly with still quite some bad experiences and I'm actually looking to backup for a 9v9 plat team or div1 6v6 team.
I'm also trying to go to i52 (with Exfane) if a big chunk of the community shows up.

Feel free to ask questions in here, I'll keep an eye on the thread.

Ciao!

AdmirableQunt, are you saying that if we played TF2 cups on ESL we could relight the fire?

I'm afraid it's too late now. Maybe when the new website is fully launched, it would be less complicated for people to use it. For now, we'll bump in to the same problems. Wire hasn't been adjusted for TF2 in years.

I'll talk to some ESL people if the new site is live. Convince them to run some stuff without Wire and then do some test cups with Wire to see if we find any bugs.

FYI, I work for ESL TV, not ESL, so I don't have a lot of influence on the leagues. But I might be able to do a TF2 show in my free time.

Isn't Huhy working for ESL (or ESL TV) aswell?, you can both try and arrange something together and have a bigger chance of actually influenting on ESL.
Anyhow, your post really talked to me, and kind of added a couple of dreams aswell that one day, the big almighty ESL would try and pickup TF2...someday..maybe..(again).

Even though, I must say, ESEA is a wondeful example of a working system that could be vital for the sake of TF2, we don't have to run over to ESL for the cups and prizes, I know ESL is somewhat bigger, but ESEA is offering about the same things, a huge prize pot in the end of a season, seasonal LAN, and it's right here, and we can't afford to lose them.

ETF2L runs so great, and so awesome, that I hope someday it'll make the transition into PayToPlay, and perhaps grow bigger, and achieve the same things ESEA has to offer.
ETF2L is doing wonderful, and I believe that if ETF2L will make it a PayToPlay league, not so many people would abandon the league, we're used to getting everything for free here in Europe, so if ETF2L would make the brave move, the community would be bigger, will have more interest and will grow as an eSport, all together.

huhy is not working for ESL full time (yet) and still working from home. When he moves to Cologne, there's a chance to set something up.

Wire doesn't need to be adjusted for any game. It's designed in a way that it should work for any games without the need of any modifications. Wire works the same way no matter the game is, so if there is a bug, all games are affected.

EDIT: This may not be true in some very specific cases, but for Steam games, or even Valve games there shouldn't be any difference.
