i want to remain positive and say that this will only help make twitch a better service since they are a great company, but a part of me worries slightly.

AloSecRIP music in streams

this is deffo going to suck

I don't fully understand how it's legal on twitch right now, though? or is it just a gray area that hasn't been explored? streaming involves everything including gameplay / personality / stream quality / music etc. so it's not far fetched to say like Destiny was making money off of Nujabes' tracks at the time

I was getting worried when Twitch started asking me if I wanted to watch livestreams of Calvin Harris.

google themselves said that they are removing forced g+ integration with youtube so i think they finally get that it was a shitty awful service that nobody wanted.

This might not as awful as people are thinking. Twitch is kinda a bad site it breaks at least once a month and some people just can't watch certain streams (although I do hear this is more of an EU thing but it's still retarded) so some more money and support wouldn't be a bad thing and the servers can only improve on their current condition. Also youtubes live streaming thing is better than the one twitch uses so many times do I want to go piss and but can't cause I don't want to miss something whereas on youtube you do have live rewind and you can resume watching a stream from where you paused. In regards to the whole music thing, think of the sheer amount of videos on youtube that use music, especially '+lyrics!' videos that are just the song being posted without permission being left untouched. Then on the G+ topic mthsad already said they were getting around to removing it and right now very very few things on youtube are G+ required. Overall I think the change might suck but there's a pretty good chance it will become a much better site too.

As long as google only fixes things such as server issues/overload and works on porting twitch VODs to youtube channels, not touching the current system of things, im completely okay with it.

I have faith in google as they are a good company, BUT it would be really dumb if they integrated google+ in the twitch platform.

Please implement twitch within chromecast so I have an easier time watching it on my TV. The only way to do it now is by using nightdev and that's only reliable half the time.

Twitch on Chromecast is going to be huge for e-sports

This could be the best or worst thing to happen to twitch, only time will tell

How confirmed is this? It just states that "sources familiar with the matter confirmed it", and other sites that are reporting on it are using VentureBeat as the source.

Every Twitch stream became almost unwatchable for the past 2 weeks again so I'm all for this.

Google has a lot of resources, so I'm hoping that quality options finally become available to all streams again regardless of viewer count. That would certainly help games that don't get viewed as often.

Lakitu app hasn't failed me once for this if you have an android phone. There are a bunch of others that work decently too.

Skeptical but generally it means esports is actually a big enough deal that Google would pay a billion dollars for what boils down to an esports property.

One one end, the actual service is definitely going to improve. Less outages, less buffering, less not being able to watch streams at all.

On the other hand, we won't be able to stream any sort of music now, assuming they use the ContentID/copyright reporting system (and they will likely have to, because DMCA, RIAA, MPAA, etc). The ContentID system really won't work with livestreaming though. We might even get banned for streaming games if they implement the ContentID/copyright reporting system in use on YouTube currently, even if the game developer is fine with it (ex. HL2 copyright tagging recently).

Hopefully Google finds a more elegant way to handle copyright (such as just using the current system or a license for the whole site) and keeps YouTube and Twitch separate (possibly with connected accounts though). Not only is the Twitch interface better for games, I don't even think of games when I hear or see "YouTube." I think music and funny videos. The Twitch brand is much more valuable for gaming than the YouTube brand is; I think it would be best to re-brand YouTube's gaming category as Twitch, kinda like how Twitch was originally Justin.tv's gaming category.

For a decent analysis on the pros and cons of the situation, here is a video that TotalBiscuit did when this was first rumored.

Even if you don't like/hate him, I still suggest watching this video as this guy makes a living using both services and knows the in and outs of both better than most people. He goes into depth about the good and shitty things about each service and what he expects to happen if the merger goes through.

Back in May when he made the video it was an if. I believe it is definite now.
