well if comp tf2 is going to die it's been a hell of a ride
who says its going to die? a large skill gap that will be created leaves the opportunity for many teams to fill the gap and it will probably become much more competitive, however the average skill level may dip temporarily.
if invite stays with similar teams from this season for next season it's gonna be a nail biting season without mixup, so many contenders for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th
more like so many contenders for 2nd and 3rd, and whoever is 4th has no chance as usual but worse
I've always been a huge b4nny team fan, but it's hard to ignore the fact that the longest standing invite team could leave. If that happens, the one of the best rivalries in the history of this game is *poof*
This stuff will always happen. Tf2 is a unique game, and honestly we are lucky that many will stay on for as long as they do simply because it's hard to replace. However big names leaving the game is in no way the same is it dying. The big names we have now haven't been big names for the entirety of the games competitive life. That itself proves that it doesn't fucking matter. Mike was an interesting player to start with roughly 4 years ago, but he only really became a big name 3 years ago when he joined infused. Hype for him wasn't the same before k1ck's success. Darn joined dignitas 5 years ago and honestly the game didn't die when dignitas stopped playing. Please can we not have this stupid circlejerk all the godamn time. Take a look at this team for example: http://beta.etf2l.org/teams/21395/ The only "HUGE" name in that team is smzi but I know for a fact that players like drackk and herr_p are beyond capable. Newer players at the top is good for spectating, it makes it more exciting.

we need more of these graphs. maybe people will stop spouting 'rip tf2' every 5 minutes.

no ones saying that the game will die when big players leave it, but when top players leave it lowers the overall skill of the game, its easier to be considered a good player because you dont have to be as good as those amazing players anymore.
squidim going to look to make an invite team next season, mixup wont die without leaving something behind

As fate would have it I´m lft, will play any class

i dont see banny quitting tf2 until he's literally the only player left soooo while mixup leaving does suck, it seems like xts is starting to move in to replace them as that rival. we'll still have good grand finals at lan, it just wont be plat v banny round 28, which i'm ok with.
oh, and it wont be easier to "be a good player" because the skill gap in invite has been shrinking. froyo and mixup are pretty obviously no longer untouchable status. people learn and get better.

The classic "tf2 will die after this LAN" posts that happen every year, never fails to amuse me.

The only thing that will make this a dead game is the lack of people wanting to organise leagues. THEN the game will die. It's a little but different in the US because it's more about when the leagues stop making money but the same principle applies.

As long as permzilla is actively trying to kill tf2, our game will never die.

DreamboatDamn, another huge name walking away from ETF2L, put him in the TF2 Hall of Fame
Yo can we legit get a TF2 hall of fame? It would be a pretty cool way to look at classic players like reptile, darn, and carnage, all the way up to more recent legends like numlocked and mike. I think it would be a cool addition to Tf.Tv if someone was willing to put time into it.

Completely agree, was talking about this to some people recently. I can't see anything else 'killing' tf2 other than that.
