I heard about Enigma and Platinum quitting, Epsilon folding, Byte leaving. Who else is planning on leaving the greatness that is TF2?
Has TF2 reached its peak?

Actually no one ever leaves tf2.

TF2 hasn't reached its peak. If 1 out of 100 people who pub start getting into comp, we'll always have new people who can rise as high as the previous stars.

Yeah man it's all over. Everything is done. In the next update valve is officially closing tf2 and it will never be playable ever again :(

It's still sad to see though, superstar players leaving who got me into the game and the comp scene.

I agree. I also think it could be good to have the sort of "Old Dogs" who have been dominant for so long to leave the scene, it potentially opens up the opportunity for new talent to reach its full potential. I suppose evident in 4g picking up duwatna, a newer player to the top level, and also in warhuryeah filling numlocked's place too.

iirc iM are pretty much all retiring? I'd love to see them try for one more year, but it'd have to be shitty to stay together for an entire year for one event with no real competition for the rest of the year

I don't think b4nny will ever leave tf2 until there are absolutely no more teams left.

Also b4nny teams can win LANs three times a year :)
But yeah no one really quits TF2.

Byte is going to be sorely missed by EU TF2, thank you for all you have done.

I left TF2 a year ago and was still there to watch some of it. You never leave.

There are always old players leaving and new ones coming in. Has always been like that. However it is a 7 year old game and things will slowly start to fade away. For Europe it has already started to happen imo.

I think the main issue for this game is that it's so fucking awesome to be apart of but it's just not getting the exposure that it deserves, everything that has gotten TF2 at this point is mainly down to a community effort and I feel that can be a really frustrating thing to be a part of.
Personally when you put so much fucking time and effort in to the game there comes a point where other things have to take a priority.
I feel that the NA scene will continue to do well, you have a better competitive scene in terms of the ESEA LANS and CEVO LANS, and as we saw at i52 you have teams that will put in a lot more effort and practice because there's so much at stake and people are always trying to be the best and less people would be willing to have a break from the game. For EU we literally only have one event, I think for EU to carry on going we need more LAN events that give people a reason to keep playing the game as most teams only really keen it up at the start of the year.

at some point its hard to justify putting so much time into something and getting nothing in return

if comp. tf2 wasn't so drastically different than pubs you'd have a better chance.

"getting nothing in return"
How would one change that? Is it even possible to elevate the status of comp. tf2 to DotA levels or sth? Maybe with more support from Valve?

The main issue for the NA scene is that the mid-IM to low Invite tier of teams die so frequently with their players simply disappearing from the game; we have a pretty massive hole in the system from repeated seasons of mass team death.

Valves only idea for TF2 was a PUB/casual game, later added hats and the mann.co market only brings in a nice whooper of cash. As far as they care about competitive TF2, it ends with some shitty ingame medals... Really sad, in my opinion, TF2 as a game is very interesting and the people in this community > any other gaming community by a long fucking shot.

But I enjoy spectating the game a lot.
