raikuValves only idea for TF2 was a PUB/casual game, later added hats and the mann.co market only brings in a nice whooper of cash. As far as they care about competitive TF2, it ends with some shitty ingame medals... Really sad, in my opinion, TF2 as a game is very interesting and the people in this community > any other gaming community by a long fucking shot.
pretty sure thats because competitive TF2 supports like 5% of all things added in TF2. Every single weapon and gamemode is promptly rejected. TF2 was built to be randomness, and to have a competitive environment you need to eliminate randomness. Most devs. don't want to support games/gamemodes that drastically change the entire game.

i don't think you get "nothing" in return. For a lot of people, just going to lan in itself or competing at the highest level is satisfying. I doubt anyone plays this game for the money.

That's true but as far as comp. TF2 goes, most of these random things have been eliminated, like most unlocks are banned(EU, not sure about NA). They could just take what the community has already, and add it officially to the game(ingame matchmaking system would be pretty amazing). Although that's a little counter-intuitive, considering valve wants every weapon to be used. But that just won't happen when they add new shit willy-nilly.

I stopped playing ages ago, I still watch tournaments like a ex football player would watch games on TV.
ESEA, CEVO, ETF2L the i series...
Because players stop playing, doesn't mean the comp scene is dying, it means the fan base is growing and we're making room for the next generation.

How would one change that? Is it even possible to elevate the status of comp. tf2 to DotA levels or sth? Maybe with more support from Valve?
You have to be a special kind of crazy to put enough time in to reach an invite level and not be sick of the game.

uhm, why? there are tons of aspiring teams that might play at i55 next year, so I don't see any problem why wouldn't it be that much of a fun.

I bet money against kaidus playing in a combo with war :)

in other comp games the vast majority of players who dump hundreds or even thousands of hours into the game receive "nothing" in return so I don't think TF2 is any different in that respect. only the top tier players would ever see any monetary compensation.

this happened at i49 too, people leave all the time, it's just the fact that new people coming into the game isn't as much of a momentous occasion as one of the best players stepping down, yet people are becoming as good as the old "best" all the time :]

War is/was pocket on the England 6's team because kaidus can only play demo (or war is a better soldier than kaidus). Not sure if it counts for much but he's played pocket for a team.
