arent you now more fucked for taking the fist shot and missing?
Foxthis update doesn't prevent you from clicking on peoples faces
you can still kill two people in a room if you have better positioning and aim
It actually would affect you in that situation. You may have been able to shoot one and quickly scope in and shoot the other one before, but now you will have to wait longer before you can take your shot at the second person. Not necessarily arguing with your point (it's valid, aim is still king when it comes to sniper), but your example could be better.

if you think they reverted the effect of the sniper crouuch thing, sorry! rd_asteroid reverted
I like to think that if you removed the ability to double-crouch after a scope-jump this would be better - a regular jump with no crouch is still predictable and the hitbox isn't messed up. The whole "I can't surf rockets" part of this change is what's horrible.
MrJellyI'm not really liking how easily Valve are just changing really old mechanics without warning or anything
It's upsetting, regardless of how good or bad the changes are, because the TF2 beta was released for weapon/class balance updates. So we're forced to deal with these changes rather than playing the same game we have, with the option to play test these changes and give our feedback, if we wanted.

Is there any chance the servers will be updated tonight?
Seeing as it's been 4 hours and the servers aren't updated I'd assume we have matches tonight ladies and gents.
I guess we'll wait and here from tri before we call it a night.

Sorry everyone. Since Valve in their wisdom released a 2nd update at 9:30 to fix a small thing from their 1st update or something the servers weren't updated for the 2nd update. I'm trying to contact Shooter to get the servers updated.

tri,
As far as I know the 2nd update didn't require a server restart. Sincerely, me.

this sniper change is pretty stupid.
it just gives you less incentive to take a shot in sniper 1v1s. it was already bad enough where no one wanted to shoot cause you're most likely instantly dead after. now youre 100 percent dead if you miss the other sniper whos probably crouch jumping around abusing hitboxes.
to improve the pub experience try doing something useful like deleting darwins danger shield. no idea why a sniper can survive a headshot. it just forces both tryhard players to wear it and then run away when they take 1 headshot. or have a charged shot duel which is just stupid. and it essentially nerfs the sniper vs other classes particularly spy but hes forced to wear it to countersnipe. such bad game design.
I dont see what sniper jumping has to do with pubs sucking.
pubbing is mostly not fun because heavy class exists. and engineers.. sentries, mini sentries.
many other things to a lesser degree like the pipes that look like normal pipes but travel faster (loch and load) and many other retarded unlocks, random crits, shitty fps.

It did. It ruined my scrim because someone had to restart his PC.

Really? It let me join a server that I only updated after the first update after downloading both updates. I guess I could be wrong though.

you're thinking backwards. the client didn't have to update unless it were to join the rd map, but the server did, but if you updated tf2 you can't join older servers ever by an engine rule. the servers have to update for updated clients.
don't take my word for it, but it's probably something like that.

wareyadoesn't make any physical sense though
we can shoot our feets with rockets and grenades but we can't do a little hop after shooting a weapon???
I really don't hope you're thinking "this doesn't make sense, it should" about all mechanics in TF2. It's supposed to be fun and balanced, not real.

Because jumping after every sniper shot is the apex of skill
Completely agree, I'm surprised at some of the comments regarding snipers jumping,
Do people actually still do that? It's far more beneficial not to jump as it allows getting a quicker shot off.
If anything, jumping only ever worked for the higher ping players whilst spinning anyhow.

A smart companion update to go along with this would have been rolling back the 200ms penalty before being able to headshot a target. That would have further emphasized snipers aim their shot before firing. As it is, you can line up a perfect shot, zoom and shoot at exactly the same time and not be awarded a headshot because of the 200ms wait time. That is bad, espescially when you keep removing the ways a sniper can dodge after taking his shot.
What would have been best was actually buffing the classic to a point to where it was useable. VALVE, come talk to me. We can make snipers balanced and useful in TF2 with just a few tweaks to The Classic...
I also agree with this, maybe removing the jump is a bit harsh for our public friends and instead introduce some sort of scope / damage penalty.
