they've won the pugbot war
Would I be overstepping it a bit if I said that this isn't a good sign for TF2? I remember that pug.na was big back when you had around 60ish teams in open. That was about 3 seasons ago, if I'm not mistaken.
i have no incentive to idle IRC anymore. whoever made the decision to put the pug bot on any network other than quakenet ruined the legitimacy of the service.
People didn't use IRC just for pugs, they used it to stay up to date on drama, chat, and keep up with what was going on in other channels/games.

I think the NA scene really needs a web based pickup system like tf2pickup.net
We were thinking about that a few months ago, not sure what is lamqta current status on that
the lack of pugna games is startling in a sense, but to be fair, i have seen invite pugs happening more frequently.
once pugna (and i believe the HL pug channels?) moved to geeksIRC, it only made sense to move tf2mix and tf2scrim to geeksIRC, as well. i'm not sure what prompted the initial move from pug.na and the HL pug channels, but the competitive community is too small to be fractured by multiple networks.
theoretically it should be simpler and more intuitive for people to use atf2.org to connect to the pug channels, now. i think there was a lack of visibility that the network change had occurred. i reached out to enigma about potentially including atf2.org (and also links to other important resources like newbie mixes, etc.) in some kind of prominent way; he stated that it was in his plans with the future of the website.
IRC pugs are a thing of the past. Web based pickups are the future.
tf2 late night pugs are dead everyone plays cs after scrims
Ricktf2 late night pugs are dead everyone plays cs after scrims
i wasnt kidding
downpourwell now that all the top players are leaving the scene, its time to enter the world of csgo
quality post. ricks statement about people pugging csgo is definitely evidence that top players are leaving the scene.
also put the bot/channel back on quakenet and the pugs may see a resurgence.

no that post is referring to the top players getting banned in csgo, not the ones leaving tf2
I think a lot of people play cs go just to play a different game with their friends. Not because they are switching to a new game. Its a shame that there isn't a more serious version of something like tf2center for high level pugs.
the network switch is not the issue, people that pug know where to go. the switch to geeks was months and months ago and when pug na was active it was on geeks.irc
a lot of players in house now, invite pugs are active again. also most players that were active in pug na just play mix now thats all
In house pugs are great and all, but it's still not a great thing in terms of growth because I house pugs are almost always the same group of people with no new players joining the mix, and most players already in those groups don't really care for new players joining the mix ether to be honest. If everyone played on irc or web based pugs rather than in housing it would obviously be a huge gain to the exposure and popularity of the competitive game itself. (This is not a post to try and say in house pugs are bad please don't yell at me)
its weird to me when people say barely any new players enter the scene
if you barely pug and you can tell me who is every person that's added up to tf2mix @ like 7pm est you're bullshitting
yeah i dont think you understand how useless it is to idle a network in IRC just for pugs.
another thing to take note of, some players just dont like pugs in general. they just like scrims/matches or dm/mge

i played a couple of tf2mixes in september tho.
Tf2center is developing an advanced lobby system for serious players, that could be a big saviour?

no

well, if any of these in house pug groups have an active steam group, we should post them here.

tf2.pug.na was never on Quakenet

i know, it was on gamesurge, which was fine, since NA used gamesurge and EU was generally quakenet, and both servers had a substantial share in the gaming communities of their respective continents.
Taking it off gamesurge and putting it anywhere other than quakenet was a mistake. Taking it off gamesurge was a mistake.
but what's done is done. the network switch is actually a big deal at the end of the day.

If the network switch was such a big deal, #tf2mix would be just as dead as #tf2.pug.na
