How do you get the melee reskin? or is it a pay to play thing like duck collecting?
The ducks feel like a less-impressive version of that contract thing they have for PA in Dota 2 where you pay to go on missions for stats for your PA cosmetics or whatever you do for that. Gettin kinda tired of this nickle-and-dime game that Valve is playing. Sure I don't have to spend money on it if I don't want to but c'mon, what's next: that teased Engineer/Spy update allows players to buy tokens to give one side kills?
To everyone who's disappointed: what did you expect? Did you not hear/read when McVee multiple times said that he's not making any promises regarding non-cosmetic items? The whole point of EOTL was the video, and the video is here and it's amazing. Plus we got a few cosmetics in an update that I never really cared about and neither should have anyone else, because nobody ever promised anything more than what we got.
A bit disappointed about the map not making the cut, but oh well, at least it still exists.
Looking forward to behind the scenes stuff about the video.

I am in tears right now, how could you do this to me valve.
I've never paid to get ducked before and I'm not going to start now.
the video was not that good though
HEAVY
HEAVY I AM HOLDING A CHESS PIECE
THAT MEANS EMOTIONS

GOOD WRITING
(edit: sorry for bashing the short, I'm countering the idea that it was great, not saying it's terrible.)

yeah I liked the video but the whole "let's" not use voiceovers at all #sodeep was a bit disappointing. Even if they couldn't get valve to get the voice actors on board they could have made a smarter use of the existing voicelines

I think they didn't use voiceovers because the original plan was to make it as a one man project, and wasn't really an artistic choice.

I was given access to [the actual voice actors]. But shoehorning in voice lines felt really out of place. The whole movie had been written in a way where it can tell the story visually without the need for any dialogue. As cool as the idea of having the actual voice actors was. It felt like it was damaging to video rather than improving it. So I decided against it.
I think the way the video came out is better without the dialogue because it lets people really watch what's going on instead of trying to listen for the story - and if there was dialogue, he'd have to add on and change things, which would take another ~6 months to a year.

Unfortunately I don't think Valve has much reason to not do these type of things, I mean plenty of people complained about the dota 2 event but I still saw the cosmetic in about half of my games and that shit was almost 30 dollars.

Wasn't the map point of this update and the reason for a video showing how it works?

The new effects are pretty cool. Now if only I had a few hundred bucks to blow on a video game.

I dont care if i see ducks my pc can handle it
what i care about is the possibility of this being the ranked match system no matter how slim of a chance that is

I noticed that as well. Same with default HUD.

Well, it's not like they didn't finish production more than 1 year ago.
I think the silence works well but not in the whole movie, some single soundbites could be much more expressive using some existing voice bits from the characters, for a few small scenes it shouldn't take more than a few weeks, I'm not talking about 15 mins dialogs but 2-3 seconds sound bites on some scenes. It just feels lacking with complete silence.

Im kinda happy they didn't use voices, the story was very obvious and both the plot and characters were represented very well through their actions so i think itd be hard to really add much with dialogue without making it redundant, irrelevant, or adding some unneeded plot exposition or something. Imo showing > telling when it comes to movies but this is coming from a guy whose favorite animated movie is Triplets of Belleville so yeah
