I know it’s (probably way too early), but honestly speaking, with some tweaks to some of the power ups, obvious player number restrictions, and more knowledge of whether the spawn locations are randomized or set, I could see this easily being a competitive game mode. Like what other people on this thread have said, it's rather similar to Quake, and as a Soldier in this game mode, you have some insane mobility with the RL and the hook, and a lot of skill can be developed here. Ignoring the idea of seeing a fat Russian with a full crit power up fly through the air and mow everyone down from behind, what do you guys think?

the amount of possible hiding spots is dumb

the hook diminishes the balancing mechanic of class speed

i personally think a lot of the power ups are rly lame, even if precision scout is the most fun class in any game ever, its like a faster shooting railgun

Pretty sure the grappling hook was implemented specifically because you guys never choose to use the slow classes. Their "balancing mechanic" was overkill.

Thought: Is there any way to restrict how much use the Hook gets per class? Say you have to recharge it after each use or precharge it before using and vary the charge required on a class-by-class basis?

This is fucking amazing and I love it.

Feedback/suggestions:
(grapple)
- Please reset the jump crouch limit when your grappling hook Is Touching something
- Add grappling hook to input prediction somehow, it's a bit jarring to try doing movement with crazy small timing in them. Good job remembering to how far along the pull you are (you did, right?) though
- Increase grapple direct damage at least at range, reward me for my crazy grappling hook airshots ;_;
- It's awkward to chain grapples together at the moment, you lose your angle due to gravity between shots. Maybe consider something to improve that? Like letting you hold your grapple while you start a second one, or making it so that you slide around snagging objects to get to the actual grapple point.
- BUG: Disguised spies show their own team color of grapple, making disguises nearly useless
- Sometimes someone gets stuck to another player but their grapple point stays in the same point on the world. Can you grapple to players, and is this synced properly?

- I really honestly love how everything on foundy is unclipped, but we'll see how that plays out in the long term. It seems to work so far.
- The capture restriction is confusing a lot of people, maybe add some kind of sign or screen overlay that explains it?

The powerups, while nice, are too strong as well
Although crits are disabled, random weapon spread is still on
I like the fullbright aspect
Engies are still a thing

The fullbright is cuz they forgot to compile with LDR (normal) lightmaps, they only did HDR (overbright/bloom) lightmaps. GG

I think the gamemode needs a lot of work too, I just haven't picked out particular problems with it yet. I love where it's going, though.

Go demo with the eyelander, the charge n' targe, a nade launcher of your choice and the vampire effect. THEN you get to know what "not fair" really means.

There would need to be tweaks for sure, because if a med + soldier/demo combo get Warlock and Shield its really annoying.

I think if they stripped the powerups to be only 1 thing. For example Vampire is only lifesteal, and the warlock one is only a blademail effect or something. Then I could see it being balanced. On top of that I think they need to either remove the grappling hook entirely or they need to make it so it has a charge meter and a range because right now it just entirely removes the mobility mechanics of classes. If they don't remove it they need to make it so the person with the intel can't use it. Then I think it could be a pretty cool gamemode if the powerups where stripped to one upgrade and downgraded to be WAY worse than they are now.

Honestly if they tweaked the power ups and did a standard deathmatch mode with a time limit and normal spawns it would be way better. The grappling hook had potential, but they screwed it up. It should really have a limit for the amount of times you can use it per life. Like if your a class with mobility restrictions and you want to rollout with it, or if you are already in the fight and you saved it so you can escape.

With that in mind they should had made it so you could hook onto walls, ceilings and other structures so you could ambush folks easier. Maybe even being able to fire while hooking onto something as you travel to your destination would had been rad.

Random Thought

What if they made this a 1v1 game mode like Quake? The grappling hook would obviously increase the games overall speed, and the powerups make more classes viable in that kind of situation, while retaining a lot of core strengths (Sniper only being good if you have the aim for it, for example).
