It's not like having more rares or legendary makes your deck inherently better. Some of the best decks right now (Grim Patron, Zoo, Hunter) are also the cheapest. I feel that's a lot different than something like World of Tanks, which is actually pay-to-win, rather than card games like Magic or Hearthstone.

I got lucky with an early pack opening and got an antonidas and I've been on the grind for legendaries to toss in a mech mage since
Just crafted a Dr Boom. I did decide to buy BRM but I wish I would have just gotten naxx instead. Thaurissan is great but the benefit of belchers and loatheb would have given me so many more options.

If you get good at arena you can get like a pack and some gold every day pretty easily in one run

I just can't get the same enjoyment out of arena. I feel like 90% of my games are decided by who has the better draft, not who plays the better game. I can fuck up my opening beyond belief but if I can drop a sneeds on turn 8 I probably just won the game. Hell, I had an arena run the other day where I lost first to a druid with 4 swipes and 3 force of natures and then to a mage with 3 flamestrikes and 4 fireballs. How do you create board control when they have a clear every turn?
I'm sure I just don't get arena and it's actually a ton of fun but I'd much rather play constructed where the only rng is the kind that's in every card game.

Yeah I absolutely can't stand arena. Most of the time when I do well it feels like I didn't really earn it and I just had better cards and when I lose it feels like I played better and the opponent had better cards. I was just putting it out there that if you did want to be permanently f2p by far the best way is to play a lot of arena. Even only having played about 10-20 arenas total I can average 5.5 wins and make a profit near every run.

You need to think of arenas like pubbing. In 6s you can kill a medic and make decisions with that information but not in pubs. Pubs have some random aspects too (dying to a random crit rocket, etc.) but it still requires skill to get to the top of the scoreboard.
