gaming.youtube.com thoughts?
competition is good. I'm happy youtube is trying to enter the livestreaming market for gaming. At the very least it just makes people take the gaming industry more seriously and not as a joke
their copyright policy is infinitely more terrible than twitch's which is probably the biggest problem

Is he not in breach of his twitch partnership contract then?

UI looks good i guess, but i see lots of small problems
- bad emotes DansGame (at least they have emoji)
- people having weird URLs on youtube (looking at you, GavinC27)
- poor separation between videos and streams
- splitting streaming community between sites
on the plus side, built-in donations for everyone is pretty cool, and i'm assuming YT doesn't take 50% like twitch does with subscriptions.

The hub for checking streams on the side of the browser is slow at responding to my mouse-over, and pretty terrible in design.
Otherwise everything else is more or less average, I don't plan to commit much attention to watching live streams on youtube since those seem to require subscribing to the channel instead of just the stream

i remember when youtube was shutting down channels for uploading videos of games. guess they see the money in live streaming games

Twitch emotes are a key part of the viewing experience for me, so I don't see myself making the switch unless a lot of major streamers do. It seems silly but those emotes really make it worth watching something live to me. Seeing somebody hit an insane airshot and having 500 PogChamps come into chat really gives you that feeling of "that was amazing" more than anything else could.
seems fairly good on launch day.
Definitely like the quality options being more specific with youtube than Twitch.
beyond that I haven't had much time to look into the differences.

When viewing a stream, the layout looks similar to MLG's streaming website.
The Twitch Partner contract does seem to state that you must only stream gaming content with Twitch
I found the UI pretty basic and unintuitive, myself. Doesn't appear to offer anything more to set itself apart?
Twitch gives all of us an insane amount of freedom and power. They've shown that they want to support free content creation, and they've also shown that they don't just exist to capitalize the living crap out of everyone (which youtube has been doing for years, also why I can't stand using it even for music anymore). Twitch also offers anonymity and security by not requiring a ton of personal information. Maybe it'll turn into an android/iOS situation.... but I do agree that competition is healthy, and this has helped me to appreciate Twitch even more.

Also I don't think it's been mentioned in this thread yet, but it has live content ID checking for streams. If your stream is flagged for playing copyrighted music/material by their system you'll be notified mid-stream, and, if you choose to not do anything about it, will promptly have your channel blocked until the copyrighted material/music is no longer present.
YouTube's automated copyright enforcer, Content ID, is always a hot button issue for YouTube's creators. On YouTube Gaming, the system will be active, in real time, on livestreams. If copyrighted content is detected during a live stream, the dashboard will show a warning, and streamers will have a set time period to stop the music. If users ignore the warning, the stream will be blocked until the system detects the copyrighted content has stopped.

Odd how if they have this technology it doesn't apply to every single song and album ever which is illegitimately uploaded to youtube.

The player is HTML5. If they add Kappa then it's bye bye Twitch for me.
GetawhaleThe Twitch Partner contract does seem to state that you must only stream gaming content with Twitch
Supposedly some older twitch partner contracts were not as clear on this, but our's clearly states this as well. You are in breach of contract if you stream gaming related content on a third party, because of their exclusivity clause.

it shouldn't be a surprise that youtube is expected to crack down harder on copyright infringement given it has like a million times more daily users than twitch

Nope, still Flash. It's just HTML controls on top of the Flash player. But they're working on it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/3cjgia/working_on_an_html5_player_january_2013/cswuqk0

Will youtube gaming be able to get the same level of moderation / bot moderation that twitch has? Things like slow mode / subs only mode is really great features that any live streaming site should have.

To be fair to Google on this one, they've been battered by content lawyers for years. It's a safety first position from the Viacom law suit,
