I too was hacked, and I know the feeling. I logged out of steam one time, tried to log back in, and I couldn't remember my password. In reality somebody took all my shit.

It's ok. If he was hacked then valve will give him back everything he lost in terms of his backpack. They might also expedite it a bit b/c he is an "outstanding community contributor"!

Why would he just up and delete so many people? He's been reviewing my demos with me, and always seemed really nice and open to answering any questions I have (even insisting that I shouldn't hesitate to ask him anything). I don't see why he'd delete me for no apparent reason, so it would make sense that his account was hacked.
