How would the meta change? What would be the 6th class? I'm geniunely curious about this. Would teams run sniper to mid?
ofc the meta would change scout is the most OP class in the game

why do you automatically assume they would "full time" any class
I'd know I'd be constantly switching classes.

pyro/sniper maybe
spy can never be run as a default class, it'll have the same wildcard utility regardless of what the meta is
heavy/engi are super slow, i dont think losing a scout would make the meta become super slow to the point where heavy is viable but i guess that's more likely than engi
some teams already run sniper a lot on some maps and it works out
pyro would probably b better since there's 1 less scout to counter it
not sure when scout would ever be limited to 1 unless valve makes 1 class limit for all classes in which case there's only 1 soldier and without knowing the # of weapon bans allowed there really is no way of knowing what the meta would be
i still think having 2 class limit for the "offensive" classes and 1 class limit for defensive and support classes would be really nice to have since valve has had those class labels for ages and it seems rly convenient that our 6's meta would stay the same if they implemented that but maybe valve wants a meta that changes constantly with weapon tweaks and wont do something even similar to this

Soon these threads won't be pointless. And nothing will be aids because we'll be on our knees thanking gabe for for finally having enough competitive players to be an esport instead of crowdfunding fucking everything. Prepare your mindset and adjust accordingly.
itll be a vastly different game ya, one that im not sure i want to be a part of
scout is the best class in the game so 1 per team would be fine tbh

i understand the worries about the meta being fucked up and i share a lot of them too but it would make sense if valve wanted to make different classes viable at different times by buffing/nerfing unlocks and basically having it like mobas where the meta shifts based on stat changes/new heroes. valve gets to show off all of their classes and the game wont devolve into rock-paper-scissors, which would happen if the meta just comprises of 3-4 options that counter each other. there will still be established metas in each iteration of the game but the meta will change over time and different classes will have their times to shine.
of course doing this in a way that's fun (subjective i guess. some people might enjoy a meta of pyro, engi, heavy, demo, medic, sniper) is going to be very very difficult but i guess we have to wait and see. we dont even know if tf2 can handle a constantly changing meta. If the tf2 meta with very few weapon restrictions and universal class limit 1 (im assuming weapon restriction will be handled through pick/ban because i dont see valve blacklisting weapons) it wont matter if the meta is changing because only having 1 scout/soldier has the potential to make the game slow to the point of being boring. we're better off with a consistent cookie cutter meta (like we have now) at that point because the games are fun to watch and we've seen both slow and fast teams be successful instead of having a constantly changing meta that's mediocre regardless of what exactly the meta is.
let's hope valve makes it work

ive been seeing a lot of this around the forums. out of curiosity, what makes scout the best?

If scout would be limited to 1 in 6s, I think everyone would run sniper instead. We've seen a lot of snipers to mid or running sniper in last pushes/defenses, and they seem to be working out pretty fine (running a sniper in 6s is still situational)
Since running spy/heavy/engie just isn't effective, running pyro is another option, but pyros aren't effective when the opponents are at long ranges (except for flare guns).
Running a full time sniper would be quite hard to deal with in 6s, but if I had to pick one, it would pick sniper.
I'm definitely not saying that the 6v6 format right now is wrong or non-effective. It was just an "IF"

i think it'd be neat to think of a format with only one scout and one completely utility player playing sniper/spy/pyro/etc. but then ofc the meta is gonna change to the point where we find out one is better than the others, like say sniper. so then its just gonna be 1 sniper on every team and we all have play around that
Yeah p sure if you have a good sniper on your team it'll be sniper most of the time and if you don't it'll be heavy or pyro

Well you used to be able to graze a scout with a sticky and it would keep them at bay and buy you a couple seconds and now you can't as you have to aim your sticky properly but for you to do that the scouts probably already started penetrating your butthole and it's all over.

I remember when scouts used to be scared to run over a sticky infront of them now they just surf it towards me, or to somewhere else
I would expect either heavy and 2x gunboat soldiers if you can stomach how boring and lame the heavy class is, or sniper if you think you're mlg.
(sniper is pretty strong vs heavy and in slow paced games, but 2x roamers could possibly counter that by annihilating the sniper)
pyro becomes stronger the less scouts that are running around (but still gets destroyed by 1 scout, heavy, or a pocket with a shotty so I doubt it)

if its 1 scout maybe heavy should be banned? but I doubt that MM will ban a whole class entirely so it would be a step in the wrong direction at this point
I feel like if you want to limit scout to 1, you should just play 5v5. Some of the maps would feel really empty and might not work, but idk it could be interesting, at least as an experiment.
