shortly after I bought the game I started visiting tf2g thread on russian 4chan-like site, some guys out there had the idea of getting into competitive and get some people from that thread to build a team, this ended up getting couple of random guys, myself included, in irc channel one day and there we got our first lineup for a small russian cup, we won and lost something and shortly afterwards I launched a doublemix group for the people from that thread and we played lobbies together, hanging out in mumble everyday etc. then we get into our first season in etf2l - that was season 10 - where we got crushed by everybody but to be honest 2011-12 was the best time I've ever played this game
the idea of getting 5-6 completely random people in a team - and also a big bunch of guys who just liked the game and played mixes with us - and getting along so we still have each other in friend lists after all these years is still looks so surreal yet awesome to me

Played hockey with 4lphalfa who had heard about comp tf2, he talked me into playing a 6s class since he didnt think we'd be able to find 9 friends to make a team with. Two of my friends pussied out of comp, so we found 2 people off UGC forums (Hi Fatswimdude) and made an Iron team.
So fuck you 4lphalfa for taking me from 200 hours in tf2 to a couple thousand in just over 2 years.I had a life before you!!!

How young are you guys? I can't believe no one has said Reptile's legendary video yet.
Tip of the Hats 2013, one of the most memorable weekends I've ever had.

this but watching and hearing about them playing, then finally getting a computer I was confident wouldn't overheat in like 2012.

I met YouMustRecover in a Dustbowl pub years ago. I dunno how the topic of comp came up, but it was when the scene was still in its infancy, so he was probably just trying to help get it out there more.
taggs old hrg videos really pulled me into it, even if i didnt understand what the fuck was going on
it expanded from there

i met velocity, a really old plat player, in a pub when i had like 600 hours, and later got asked out of the blue by some random guy on my friends list if i would like to play spy for his s12 iron team... i denied it (really wish i didnt), but that was what ultimately got me interested. instead, a bunch of my pub friends made a steel team that i ended up roster riding the entire season. after that, i got in touch with the old iron players and ended up playing for their s14 silver hl team for my first real comp experience :)
I looked up mlg tf2 tournament on youtube LOL

happened to join a d6 teams pub server and made friends with the leader of the community who introduced me to their comp team
then they asked me to trial, I said no, but later they needed a merc for an official so I signed up, played backup and just slowly became main
it was around that time that my life was ruined ))

My friend from an arena server introduced me to highlander. I hated it, but he told me it was the only mode I could play because 6's was too hard. One day I decided to try playing a 6's lobby.
Get carried by Hassassin. Think im good at the game. Look at logs. Cry myself to sleep.

Initiative by an old s2 div 3 player. Was probably the best introduction anyone could've had.
I saw the Yz50'd frag video, got curious and began to look into it.
First thing I watched involving competitive players was the winter 2010 communities vs. pros with the pros being eMg.
