Yeah. If by "works" you mean gets people interested, over the summer I actually added that tag to my name and used the in-game voice communication in pubs (not to spam, just saying hey and thanking people if they did something good). 3 different people asked me about it. So yeah. I like to imagine that there's a team out there starting in iron whose catalyst was something I did.

Old SalTV casts! I knew about competitive before I even played the game. My parents were very against video games so I could only play free games like Quake Live. Picked up TF2 the day it went F2P and never looked back.

I was playing soldier in a pub and I met a medic named Towel that played in IM at the time, I think she was on runaway 5 if I'm not mistaken. I added her because I was looking for medics to play together in pubs with. I came across "Fragged by TLR" on youtube and my mind was blown. I noticed a bunch of classes and items were missing so I linked the video to Towel and she explained to me what 6v6 was, and invited me to play some tf2lobby games with her. She taught me how to install mumble and what the Newbie Mixes were and I fell in love with the format and I ran with it.

I don't think Towel is still around but thanks for all the help.

I found out about competitive from the i46 doc but didn't really pay too much attention passed that. I found out that match casts happened when I found this tumblr that got real in depth about esea going-ons, don't even think I knew what twitch was yet tbh. After that I started randomly looking up matches and this one with 20b (or a diff eXtv match with 20b 6s and old graphics) was probably the first 'real' match I watched. I always thought Cyzer was a demo main lol

I was picked up in a darkly trade server to ring as a scout for steel highlander.
before all that, I was autistic and mainly a trading main. but after playing that match, it revived my love for the game and had me willing to trade less and less. Once I won my steel hl medal, I quit trading all together and sold my bp.

I just heard mention of competitive, and went on a rampant google hunt for more information and found both ESEA casts and UGC casts on eXTV and like day after casts from different personalities within the community.
