In-game, 1280 x 720 feels WAY smoother than 1920 x 1080 even when I'm on single-player mode netting over 500 FPS. Help? I want to have my game feeling smooth with my game being good-looking.

You can keep scaling down your res or remove hats/particles but without dropping down to Comanglias Toaster cfg you wont be able to get much more AFAIK.

have you tried removing the -refreshe command from the launch options?

obviously lowering your res will increase fps lol but you wont be able to get the fps you get on 1280 on 1920 unless you use a super low graphics config

Comanglia's Configs don't really work like that. The configs are designed to try to optimize TF2 depending on how powerful your hardware is. The toaster CFG is meant to cater to players that are playing on toasters, aka your craptop. Just like the Toaster CFG, the mid-quality CFG is designed to give max fps to mid-tier pcs, and the high quality config is designed to give max fps to powerful pcs.

- Name of the CFGs: Max FPS for High Quality PCs and Max FPS for Mid Quality PCs (tbh I think its the word 'quality' that confuses people)

I downloaded the no hats mod + no particles mod, and it gave me a good 12 fps boost.

Pepzihave you tried removing the -refresh command from the launch options?

ftfy. I tried it about a dozen times or so, but the -refresh command doesn't seem to change it.

I thought it was common knowledge that TF2 is a very CPU-Intensive game. Theoretically, the resolution shouldn't make much of a difference in the performance since the GPU isn't very much stressed at all in this game.

Benchmarks w/ benchmark2.dem

1920 x 1080

4843 frames 35.053 seconds 138.16 fps ( 7.24 ms/f) 21.940 fps variability

896 x 504 (I did it twice because I legit didn't think I was going to get less fps with a lower res)

4843 frames 35.993 seconds 134.55 fps ( 7.43 ms/f) 20.456 fps variability
4843 frames 35.665 seconds 135.79 fps ( 7.36 ms/f) 22.200 fps variability

try mat_queue_mode 0

try disabling all threading commands

try fps_max 300

try removing most of your launch options (including threads, nod3d9e2)

try all of the above at the same time

you are the master of placebo

remember when you were trying to convince everyone that mat_maxframelatency did something, then valve just removed that command

This is why i play at 960 x 540, but you'll need to setup a custom resolution for that. I used to play 1280 x 720 until the update killed enough fps for me on that.

1280x720 is not stretched, it is still 16:9. Playing 800x600 full screen on a 16:9 monitor would be stretched.

its not "stretched", its non-native. feels a bit wierd, but not that terrible.
