kevin, any reason youre not allowing billdozer to coach? yeah hes a meme but he has both IM experience and open playoffs experience, (yeah it was low IM but at least his team finished a season) and would really be a pefectly good coach for newbies.
if you want to restrict it to a higher skill level then do that but dont deny people who meet the requirements.

If I didn't have reasons, I wouldn't have said no. If someone messages me saying "billdozer is trying to get in contact with you" but "he's banned from TFTV so he cant post there", that is a pretty big red flag for me. Someone that is deemed unfit to post on forums generally isn't the person I want leading a group of new players into the community. Even if that weren't the case, he's come in to newbie mixes in the past and trolled/ ignored admins. It's just not going to happen.

I'm lucky in that this community is generous enough to where there is a pretty large pool of coaches I have to choose from. So there will be several people who meet the requirements that don't make it.

FWIW Billdozer was a good coach the time I did a newbiemix. Explains things well, and he obviously understands the game or he wouldn't have been playing in IM
but he asked me to make this post lmao
but he asked me to make this post lmao
When I did newbie mixes about a few weeks ago, Billdozer was our team's coach. I played a few mixes before and a few after, but Bill was honestly one of the best coaches I had when I was playing. Correcting when he had to (specifically on a rather bad uber I had on Snakewater), and praising guys when it was good to praise them. Regardless of his IM experience I felt like I learned after that game with him.
I don't know if what happened between him and Kevin, or why he doesn't come on here, but all I know is that without Bill, the newbie mixes lose a valuable coach, and honestly one of few cool dudes, I think, that can really help to encourage new players to come in.

Just a quick reminder but if bill wants to teach a new team he totally can, its not like we are barring him from mentoring a team, nor is there any real way for us to do that. If he wants to mentor a team he can do it all on his own, newbie mixes are not the only place that you can mentor teams from and people have been doing it long before we where around. With that said at this moment in time we just have other priorities that do not involve bill in newbie mixes as a mentor.
i think the issue here is that someone who has both (a) enjoyed coaching newbie mixes in the past and (b) had people who he has coached recommend him in this very thread, speaks volumes about his ability to coach, that being said since when have you had a generous pool of coaches, you literally feel the need to bump the thread for coaches weekly.

I am talking about coaches specifically for this project, not newbie mixes. Many players don't like coaching newbie mixes because it is essentially the same thing every game ("please... please stop overextending..."). He is totally free to coach newbie mixes (as is everyone with mid-open+ experience).

I think that we have lost a lot of perspective in this thread.
First, its not about skill. My earlier post was inflammatory, but intended to display a point, one that apparently tojo missed. It has NOTHING to do with the personal skill or accomplishments of the potential coach. fatswimdude made it about skill and made relevant the personal experience of billdozer as if that was the only qualifier for who would be a good coach. Whether this was intentionally myopic or not, it betrays a lingering misconception about how participants are chosen for projects like this and why it must be materially different than the process for choosing, say, newbie mix coaches.
This project is extreme in scope and depth. This isn't an hour and a half commitment over the course of a Friday evening where 90% of your time is spent rehashing the Sigma guide on pushing and reminding people that they do in fact have microphones. This is an endeavor which will require a significant time investment on the part of the coaches and the teams. This is something that has never been attempted successfully on this scale, and this level of organized coaching hasn't existed since commft. It is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL that this be as flawless as possible for its first run through. With that in mind, participants have to be selected based on consistent, proven teaching ability and demonstrated long term support of teams/projects in the past. This is absolutely too critical to the continuation of competitive TF2 to be in the hands of people for whom this cannot be said yet.
This isn't about Kevin, this isn't about Newbie Mixes or Billdozer and I am really astonished and disappointed to see this thread get derailed to make it about him and his personal abilities as a coach. This is about the players who are going to be entering open for the first time, many of them timid and afraid, and who will need the absolute best we can put forward to make this successful. Making this about billdozer is, at best, a myopic and reckless attempt to get a voice heard in a thread that isn't about that voice.

Is it okay to not be free one day from sunday to thursday, or would that automatically make one ineligible? In my case it would be wednesday.

Mark it on the form and if we can find enough people with the same schedule, we'll make a team. If not, there's no downsides; you just won't get on a team.

If you end up on a team, your mentor will explain all the fee stuff.
Hey Kevin. I added you but I know you're busy and have a pretty full friends list. I'd like to talk to you about helping fund/coaching/possible playing? Let me know how best to get in contact with you!
Out of curiosity, will all teams be announced at once, or will they be formed one at a time?

Hey guys! In 3 days the first month of ESEA subscription that me + some great anonymous donors paid will end. If you have any ESEA premium codes you aren't planning on using (a rarity, I know), please tftv pm me about it. There are six people I will be renewing premium for this week. I'm happy to do it, I'd just rather not if I can avoid it. Ya know?
Next drive, I'll be sure to give all the newbies that pay for themselves my referral code so this isn't a problem. I just forgot that was a thing at 2 am when we started talks of the drive.

I know this must seem like a dumb question, but before I joined I want to know when the date of both the start and the end of this newbie campaign, so I can set up my schedule accordingly, or abandon the thought of joining (Which I really don't want to). I've already tried searching the internet and have read all the comments, but couldn't find much. Sorry for asking this question, I hope this helps some of the other newbies learn the dates so they can adjust their schedule too and thanks for helping.

And if you don't mind, could you give me a walkthrough of the signups pastebin form? I understand how to fill out this form but from this point I am lost. However, I think you put it on the discussion page of the drive sign up thread but I'm not 100% sure:

I'm not sure if you were answering my question, however, if you were I'm aware of what to put in the sign up form I'm not sure of where I should post it. From what I do know I think I post it in the Team Drive Sign Up Thread but again I am not 100% sure. Thanks for trying to help anyway :)

Never mind, I was just reading the thread incorrectly. You do post it on the Team Drive Sign Up page like I thought. Sorry, again I'm really new to this. And I just realized it's too late to join anyway, my bad.
