TechDudeIt definitely would affect rocket jumping! If you are changing the geometry of the projectile impact box you are bound to affect several types of jumps (wall climbs being one easy example).
is splash damage itself calculated using the bounding box then? i thought it just used some fixed point in the centre of the model since rockets shot slightly downwards on a wall still propel you upwards and not directly horizontally.
eeepoint being valve is capable of making this change easily
rocket splash shape /=/ bounding box

But for now, what's wrong with bullet blocking stairs, at the cost of slightly floating stickies?

As far as I understand it splash damage is calculated based on the bounding box compared to the impact sphere.
There's lots of things to consider about rocket jumping:
-Depending on the launcher being used, rockets fire from different places relative to the players model
-Rockets start with 0 velocity when fired, they are not given a starting velocity equal to that of the player (this is what enables you to do rocket jumps with syncs. This behavior is not accurate to real physics. Some examples of games that do this realistically is how you throw CS grenades and firing projectiles in Tribes).
-You can counteract the direction that explosions push you with the strafe keys (try wall climbing without w)
rockets shot slightly downwards on a wall still propel you upwards and not directly horizontally
-You are likely counteracting some of the horizontal velocity with your movement keys
-You probably already have momentum in a direction, such that between the time you fire and the rocket explosion you are moved past the explosion

There's this too-

projectiles, stabs and flames are so fucked in this game that you should probably just play hitscan classes if you care about your nervous system

flamei would like to remind you all that when there were updates in the past that changed sticky or rocket jumping a lot of people lost their minds.
this will do it on a completely new level if you actually insist on them changing the bounding boxes
be careful what you wish for.
Just interested to know, what changes were done to rocket jumping?
I know stickies det slower now so that changes sticky timing, but what about rockets?

I think the biggest takeaway is that I don't know shit about this game.

Can anyone test soldiers that hold crouch when they jump vs pencil jumping? If it also shrinks your hitbox like that medic it would probably be worth knowing. Besides looking dumb, pencil jumping could be worse *cough* mustard *cough.*

isnt there also that thing where, when you crouch while youre in the air, your hitbox moves like a meter above the player model so if a soldier jumps you and crouches like a second before your rocket should hit him it instead just flies through the player model and misses, i think thats where the pencil jumping hate comes from

Yes, the hitbox and the actual model move up a little when you crouch mid-air and also the hitbox shrinks as the previous screenshot shows. When you crouch before a rocket jump, the hitbox is less than normal too.

I tried shooting this medic with the crossbow and the arrow was actually going through without doing any damage
