Would any of you be interested in a stock TF2 server? I'm talking a no-hats, no-cosmetics, no-unlocks server. I was inspired to make one after the item server was down for multiple hours the other day.
Would you want it to run older TF2 maps, or competitive maps? Are there any weapons you'd be interested in having unbanned?
I've already got a Chicago-based server set up for it, I'm just curious how you'd like it configured.

so youre either picking between every payload or koth or whatever map in the game on a valve server
or youre playing 24/7 on one map like on a skial server

i personally feel like a lot of those maps are just not very fun
and thats why no one wants to play them even in valve pubs where people dont know any better
well and fastlane are very bad maps
and 5cp maps in pubs can be kind of boring except for a few exceptions and bigger maps like 5gorge and process
i suppose it is up to you in the end though

Suggestion: Try to do a poll for what maps people want and don't want. You absolutely cannot please everybody (some people hate certain maps etc.) but a poll should give you a pretty good idea of what maps are MOST popular and you can then pick, you know.. 10-12 of those or whatever. So you can try to please.. MOST people.

I can't say I've played those ones in pub tbh, I'm sure they're great. It would be a shame to leave process out of the map pool though.

Are there any reskins of Process? I like the map, and it works well in pubs, I just don't think the tileset really fits the aesthetic I'm looking for.

Just leave cp_well out... It's a terrible pub map; a terrible map overall also. The medpack and ammo placement is retardedly not thought through, the whole absense of a connection between yard/mid and the upper floors of 2nd breaks any natural 5cp flow. Who voted for that map lol?

I had a version of TF2 from November 15th 2007 and played it with my friends
The matches were either 2 hours long or 7 seconds long
Hydro is only good when you play it on the Xbox 360 or PS3 version

Please for the love of god don't revert the stats to the 2007 stats though
Pyro had no airblast essentially making him an ambush class (although the developers intended you to play her as an ambush class)
Engineer couldn't move buildings
Demoman and Soldier had like 30-40 reserve ammo
Spies backstab took a million years to complete
The only way to refill your cloak other than waiting is to change classes then change back to spy
And just keep it stock, no unlocks.

There's plenty of community servers that have been alive for much longer than a week. Also, quick play is more geared towards newer players who are just starting the game and they want to jump right into the action. They may not know what different game modes there are or what maps play the best, they just want to test the waters and see what they like. That's what I personally did. I quick-played for about a week until I got about 3-4 maps and game modes I really liked and then used the server browser to quickly find the most populated servers.

All non-Valve maps will use the built-in Map Workshop, so they'll be downloaded and updated by TF2 automatically for you directly from Steam. You won't need to download them or wait for a long-ass FastDL to take place.
I'd love some feedback on the mapcycle so far. Every single workshop map listed (except for Granary) is on a trial basis. If you guys don't like it I'll remove it, but I do ask that you give it a chance. I've provided links for each one so you can take a look. Some Valve maps are on trial too, if they turn out to not work well I'll remove them.
Additionally, since 46% of you want a few unlocks rather than none (16%) or most (18%), here's a new strawpoll. Please vote for every weapon you'd like to see allowed, but please remember that this is meant to be a stock server - don't just vote for competitive weapons. Remember that a banned weapon means enemies can't use it, either. For example, if the Sandvich is banned, every Heavy will have a shotgun, no matter what.

EDIT: I'm going through and vetting each Workshop map now, and I've swapped Overgrown for Furnace Creek, which I think will play really nicely. Overgrown is gorgeous but its actual design is questionable at best.

The server had an actual mapcycle that would change each week that included a good mix of stock and custom maps. The server map time limit was also 20 minutes(so people wouldn't have that same old pub feel) and had many good players on playing. I also believe that the max player count was between 18-24 so it wouldn't be a complete 24/32 player mess. No whitelist, but this was back when there was not as many unlocked weapons released.
