hooliKanecoBut for example I have binds to join servers in my config, if I accidently launched tf2 in secure mod and pressed one of those binds by accident while recording it would be pretty unfortunate but probably would get a vac ban while not cheating.
That'd be true except insecure plugins are not enabled when tf2 is launched in secure mode, that's the whole point of secure mode and why it even exists.
Afaik HLAE is not a plugin, it's a straight dll injected into the client (much like a lot of cheats are). So it can probably happen.

I've sat next to Remedy while watching him play, sponsored his team and even gave him a hug at GXL. The other person at the LAN that has been verified a cheater was making a complete fool of himself every breath and honestly that's the attitude that can only verify suspicion. When his invite team I paid for died due to roster mixups, he was the first person I met that offered to pay me back as much as he could because he felt sorry. I refuse to believe he is at fault, nobody as considerate as Remedy could be actually cheating after all this time.

I'm going to assume if remedy was cheating it was more of the "for the lulz" kind of situation, that or he was using cheat engine to hack some other game like dungeon defenders 1/2 (see his recently played) and left cheat engine opened. The only other option I would think of is that he wanted to get vac banned so he would never play again.

One of the nicest players I've ever met in TF2, a guy who mentored and sponsored my team for multiple seasons, turned out to have blatant walls, radar, and probably aimbot too. I fully believe he was a nice person. I have no desire to play with him in TF2 ever again and will report him if I ever see him on an alt, but I strongly believe he still is a good/nice person who did a really really shitty thing in a videogame. People hack for reasons other than just being an asshole, and I don't think being a nice person is evidence someone is a legit player. I don't know anything about remedy and I'm not commenting directly on his VAC, I just don't think the "he's nice so he's not hacking" line is solid.

Remedy hacking seems incredibly not probable.

You can actually have CheatEngine open and as long as you don't attach it to TF2 it won't do shit. A program has to fuck with memory in some way. So usually this means using any of the WinAPI functions that actually mess with memory (Read/WriteProcessMemory, OpenProcess etc) or use any inline assembly to do the same. Having the program open shouldn't do anything what so ever.
To clarify that is the case for CheatEngine, not necessarily any other cheat program. Consider CheatEngine's OpenProcess method to be the same as injecting a DLL. Both can lead to bans when in a VAC server. VAC detects certain hooks, functions that edit memory, common programs (like CheatEngine) etc. but I'm almost entirely sure that it doesn't just ban for having a program with a name in their list open.

I've had CE opened plenty of times without attaching to a VAC game, never got VAC banned. Also pretty sure attaching CE into VAC gets you banned almost instantly or used to.

A couple of seasons ago I remember playing with Roxanne for a couple of weeks (we were trying him out on demo for '92 and we didn't think he hacked at the time). Honestly, he was incredibly nice, polite, and soft-spoken in mumble. I don't think personality in-game or out of game can really be used as evidence either way.
That being said Remedy is a really cool dude and I hope this all turns out to be a false positive.

i don't think that word means what you think it means
sociopath: a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior and a lack of conscience.
It sounds like you don't know what it means.
A sociopath is likely to be someone to do activities like hacking where they ruin the fun of others without caring about the consequences but while interacting with people put up a completely different attitude that belies their intentions.
A classic sign of a sociopath is someone putting up a facade of kindness while hurting others. Idk considering Roxanne's history I feel like geel's statement sounds p right to me.

Every time someone gets accused of hacking, there is always a comment saying "I seen him play at LAN, so he doesn't cheat".
It is literally the dumbest reasoning to make for defending a possible cheater. Just because he did not hack at LAN doesn't mean it isn't hacking at home with nobody around. I really wish people would stop saying this stupid shit because it means absolutely nothing that you played with him at LAN and he did not hack at LAN.

the willingness and ability to cheat and actively ruin other people's days while at the same time presenting a convincing facade of niceness and consideration? that's incredibly sociopathic.

apparently nullcorecheats keeps getting leaked while in development and there was a vacwave of ncc users a day before remedy's vac so maybe it's that but i doubt it. it's near-impossible to get vac'd in tf2, with even a ton of free cheats being completely undetected by vac, such as the redarkstorm mentioned earlier in this thread, darkstorm and its derivatives (lmaobox, lithium?, aimware, other pastes), i think it's pretty likely that it was actually a false positive. considering he wasn't det by esea ac and apparently plays well at lans, and that he would've probably bought one of the non-vacdet cheats if he wanted to actually cheat (m4risa.cfg !!!!), a false positive is probably really likely
like frfr why wouldn't you spend an extra $20 for a decent cheat if you're spending $7 a month on esea anyways

I'm only saying it to add to the I've got multiple occasions I've dealt with him to give him the benefit of the doubt. And how can it be stupid if there's no real definitive 'smart' way of knowing its an authentic ban besides having an employee investigate and conduct a report for us? There isn't any. I only vouch that it's a false positive because those do happen and from what I know about him he doesn't cheat and nothing about him makes me think he does.
And wtf I'm not dFlame
Every time someone gets accused of hacking, there is always a comment saying "I seen him play at LAN, so he doesn't cheat".
It is literally the dumbest reasoning to make for defending a possible cheater. Just because he did not hack at LAN doesn't mean it isn't hacking at home with nobody around. I really wish people would stop saying this stupid shit because it means absolutely nothing that you played with him at LAN and he did not hack at LAN.
personal emotions/experiences are a double edged sword. sometimes they can motivate people to clear someone wrongly accused or they can lead us to doubt and suspect a malicious facade. either way it's useless to weigh all ur judgement on. just because u like or dislike the person don't let it cloud ur judgement of what is actually possible and what most likely happened
DoctorMiggyThe guy doesn't play competitive and he coveted his items too much to lead to believe that he would ever cheat, let alone on his main. He uses alt accounts to help populate his servers in the mornings, if he wanted to cheat to pwn pub noobz he would have done it on those.
im confused. how and why do u create several alts to populate a server
why not just use bots. were his alts offline type of bots where it has the bot name
or was it something he tinkered too deeply in to misrepresent reality for his own personal interests
