I've been lucky enough to avoid any major shady incidents, so far. Haven't lived anywhere with high crime, so that helps.

I did go to the grocery store very late at night once, and a man snuck up right behind me in the (not very well-lit) parking lot while I was putting stuff in the car. All I really heard was, "Ma'am, I'm not gonna hurt ya, but...", which probably isn't the best opener if you're just begging for money. I don't remember how I responded, mostly I just rushed to get in my car. He didn't actually do anything threatening, but he still really scared the shit out of me. I'm a little more cautious now about where I go and when, because that situation could've been much worse than it actually was.

A real close friend from back in the day started dealin weed in like senior year of high school, after like 6 months he got caught with a bunch of weed tucked into the top of his shorts or somethin - it was like half of one of those 1 gallon or whatever zip lock bags. Friend told me he was hiding his bag at like the waistband of his shorts, and the cop that stopped him went immediately for where the weed was, so someone def tipped em off. He got fined like $800 + probation.

A friend of a friend we used to skate with got put in prison with a large, family-sized bail cuz he stabbed someone a few years ago.

People stole stuff all the time when I worked in retail, it was almost too easy. One instance security actually got some of our stuff back, some dudes pretty much swiped an entire rack of womens sandals and several stacks of shirts.

I was in a physics class when one of the guys behind me just cracked because the person next to him was bothering him, so he then jumped on the guy and smashed his face a few times before we pulled him off. He stormed out of the room but the cops found him, the hurt guy was alright with just a couple of bruises, cuts and a bleeding nose.

while on the bus to school one morning I saw someone with ovo 10s on (very expensive shoes) get robbed while we were at a red light. the light changed before I saw the end of what happened but it was still pretty scary because the group had pulled a knife on him

a few years ago when I was on my high school robotics team, we went to cincinnati for a competition and when we got there at night, my friend and I saw a guy getting mugged in an alley outside of our bus in one of the first alleys we saw

the next day one of the competitor's trailer (has all of the robotics equipment for the competition as well as the robot itself) was stolen—pretty expensive equipment at that, I don't know how an entire trailer was stolen but it was unfortunate—then we found out later that there was apparently a murder a day before setup began for the competition just down the road

considering the circumstances, how I see cincinnati and some us cities in general compared to canada has been horribly skewed forever

Suicidal/SI young woman who was perfectly fine, concerned friend called for a welfare check because she wasn't answering her phone. Cops are there and there is a bong just chilling on the table with a tin with a marijuana leaf on top right next to it. She had two terrariums, one with a cute rat, the other blatantly growing mushrooms. Cops gave no shit and one of them complemented her on the nice, bright purple, 'tobacco pipe'

Young gentleman outside of a CVS chewing on his jacket, thought he was dying because he tried huffing for the first time and thought the super bitter taste in his mouth was him being poisoned. Cops took him to jail, mostly to scare the shit out if him, after I assured him that he wasn't dying and they stopped laughing long enough to cuff him.

(Not funny) Treated a cop that had to shoot someone for heart palpitations from the adrenaline and a cut on his hand. After he calmed down, spent the rest of the time sobbing about having to shoot the, maybe 19 year old kid and about the kids family. Cop was 24, new on the force. Kid he shot made it.
