Hi im Exile, been playing tf2 for about 4 and a half years. I mostly just jump and bball. I also have a few jump videos uploaded to my channel.
So since afterglow kinda dropped his tutorial series, I wanted to try making some of my own. That being said there are way better jumpers around who could probably make better guides than I can and I encourage them to do so. I want to start out with some feedback on what kind of things people want to see in jump tutorials or have trouble with. Currently I plan to make videos around the different mechanics of jumping (wallpogo, syncs, wallshots, bounces) as well as other related things. I can't promise these guides will be the best of quality compared to some of the popular ones, but I'll try to make them detailed because thats something most of the current tutorials lack. o

Seriously all you can do is show someone how to do a certain jump. The rest is up to them to just try it until they do it.

I would love a ctapping explanation/guide. I can ctap while standing still but I cant incorporate that into a useful horizontal jump.

i kinda agree that there's only so much you can teach with jumping, and i've been nolifing jump maps for like 2 years. most of it is muscle memory that you can only get down by long term practice.
that being said, there are some nifty tricks that can be taught via demonstration/explanation like ctaps and bounces and whathaveyou

Showing how you would actually apply these jumps in an actual game would be cool. For example, show a soldier doing a regular rocket jump and then wall jumping for extra speed to drop a medic.

I recommend lots of repetition. If I watch you do a jump once, then I know if I do exactly as you do I can do the jump. If I see you jump 3+ times, then I start to understand what's important and what's not. more reps ---> better understanding

Maybe explain the mechanics behind the techniques? I always found that understanding why a speedshot happens or why a ctap happens really helped me when I was learning them. Instead of just 'do these inputs', actually break down what's happening in the game engine.

I've never seen a tutorial with that good of a breakdown of speedshots, especially how to angle them properly to achieve different things, i.e., shooting way below you to go low and then finding the right place in front of you to get height without stopping yourself.
I think I'd personally find a downpogo video helpful, if there are even any tips to give besides "practice."

Also syncs would be a great video. After attempting jump_sync I realized how little I knew about them and that I was just spamming and getting lucky before because the maps had good spacing.

Thanks but I know all that I've bballed off and on for 3 years and I ctap. Exile asked what people would like to see or what people have trouble with and I was responding to the first part of that. I worded the bball question comment specifically because I am assuming that Exile, being the much better player, might have something to share on the subject in terms of strategy and team play or something of the sort. Through my own experience with bball I know that it has more depth than most people give it credit for. That is not to say it is monstrously deep, just more than dm and jumping.
Also the when you say hoopshots and strafes that is exactly my point. A video could help explain those in depth and meticulously with strategies or advanced techniques/jumps (such as the ctap backboard jump to go across the whole map, or the speedshot off spawn), rather than oversimplifying it. Once again, not a super important mega deep idea, but seeing as there isn't a really great bball guide out there and Exile is arguably the best next to wonderland I figured it would be an appropriate place to offer that sort of feedback.

I figured that the type of video guide Exile would be making would be more helpful for less knowledgeable or experienced players, so I was trying to give ideas that would be worth expanding on in my view, and could possibly help me as well, though I wasn't expecting any of them too(except the bball one, that was my personal interest).
