My friends and I found an odd 8 slot cp_granary server called 'extras2' and we would joke around playing 2v2 and 3v3 in it (by using the restart map command) eventually we got interested enough to make an iron 6s team

Found Brens post on reddit looking for players for the highlander open and me and an NA friend signed up to play with him together.

Ever since then I drifted towards 6s and have been in a stable core roster since.

https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/258pc0/would_anyone_on_rtf2_like_to_participate_in/

post gives me nostalgia and makes me cringe at the same time :')

I remember my first experience was through tf2center. My first lobby went amazing awfully. My screen decided to change resolution going into the game and I had no idea about hud_reloadscheme. From there I tried to get on a team that later died, and then 4 dead teams later, played my first (full) season as HL demo. After bearing through that I decided to go to 6v6 and have loved the gamemode ever since

Tragic guided me and some of my pub clan friends through our first lobby, and we made a TWL team pretty soon after that.

Thanks Tragic.

Started with the first tf2lobby, then later joined a team with Shrugger and Gorilla. Shrugger moved on to greater things while I went back to pubbing/tf2lobby.

Finally got my start with Cosmic Brownie Swag in Season 12 or 13, then played two seasons and had to stop due to work, but still pugged with Server Depopulation Squad periodically.

Now i just pubstomp with my girlfriend.

My first real competitive experience was playing an 8v8 match on ctf_mach4 I think in an old long dead league called STA; that was back in early 2008 I believe

Man, I've come a long way since then

CommFT Highlander open tournament with a bunch of other former XBox TF2 players. We won a match on Coldfront and then lost to Mustard's team on Viaduct.

I will never forget my very first lobby when at the time almost beat TLR MGE lord Basik rocket jumpered to our second on Granary during the rollout and tried to shotgun me.

I played one game on tf2lobby as med without knowing *anything* at all about 6s or comp in general. I was just walking around totally aimlessly and being like, "ahhh how am I ever going to be able to play around people if there are only five others in the whole server? 6v6 is the worst!"

Didn't return to any sort of comp until way later, after tf2lobby was dead, but by then, I'd watched some casts and had a slightly better idea what was going on.

I managed to join TF2 lobby during the fabled UGC ctf_haunt week of Feb 2013. It was scarring and it took several months before I went back.

About 3 years ago I had no idea how 6s worked (I just knew the classes used) but I was on a ugc steel team with some pubstomper friends. We didn't play a single match cause our idiot leader signed us up for NA instead of EU lmao.

After that, again, with 0 experience no lobbies or anything I was rostered as a sub for a div4 etf2l team cause the leader liked my pub scout dm. Again - lmao.

After that, i kept trying to go to tf2lobby but the site was always down (I didn't know it ceased to exist) and finally like a year later someone told me about tf2center. That's when I played my first actual match in a 6s format. I sucked ass. Then I remember I was on granary with some chill israeli dudes that kept calling me a 6s virgin but they were nice and taught me the basics.

Tf2 is a harsh mistress.

First time I played was archimedes cup with some friends from pub. We played b4nny. We got 5-0'd on badlands in like 5 minutes. Lost interest.

What got me back was Brad Pitt announcing he was donating something like $2500 to i55. I was wondering what this i55 was and why my friend would donate so much to it. Watched the whole event, fell in love with zebbosai roamer and started watching more matches/streams.

Played my second ever game or comp 2 days ago in a sideshow viewer lobby which was pure aids. I loved it.

discovering comp: extv top 10 plays probably
comp 'experience': TF2center HL sniper
comp experience: ETF2L S24 preseason cup. Team leader forgot he was out of town that weekend so he played on 110 ping from France to Germany on bad internet on a bad laptop. And one of our scouts couldn't show up. We found mercs. Won 1 game against German anime pubbers, lost 1 game to prem HL players and then we forfeit because we couldn't find mercs for the matches the next day

Back when my best friend IRL pubbed with me and I had bad ping, bad fps, and atrocious skills, he had some friends who played comp and we ended up wanting to try as well. First on the old tf2lobby (I was the zero lobby medic once!) and eventually we made a team for UGC Steel, back in season 9 when Iron didn't even exist in EU. I was med and he was heavy. Good times.

Our first match in that season was also the debut to our opponents, Tourettes Chessclub. EU players will know them because a few years later they won prem twice.

I really cant remember but a lot of my TF2 hours were spent getting destroyed by my friend in MGE, then i got led to comp through that, I found technosex's old videos and I decided I wanted to play roamer
My first TF2center lobby was HL medic process (i had no clue what i was doing), got interested in watching NA games from taggs videos and shit and I eventually started trying pugchamps and i became the famed 53dpm scout or something like that

London Calling made a pug group for pub players and mixed us in with his open team (insom, james shocka). Eventually that merged with Auburn and Sakura's friends.

A co-admin of this Jailbreak community server I was part of asked if I wanted to try out for Medic on an Iron HL team. My audition was playing on a 32-person Harvest server, the leader told me "you stayed alive until we won and popped two Ubers, you're in". Fell in love with the idea of making all 9 classes play a role; fell in love with 6's later because it was a unique breath of fresh air and an organizational sigh of relief.

Played Season 1 of the Tumblr vs Reddit HL showmatch and coordinated some of Season 2 for the west coast teams. Made a Steel 6s team with some of the people I met in Season 1 + the same co-admin who got me into competitive. Haven't played in a while save for subbing, tryouts and lobbies; as much as I'd like to, I'm not one of those people who has the drive or time commitment to better myself at competitive TF2 when I'd rather (hopefully) better competitive TF2.
