nevermind i guess
main will never exist until we can get ~36 stable teams in IM
i think the problem with four divisions, in esea's eyes, is that there wouldn't be enough prize money for 4 leagues. or are their players that would dislike their prize money decreasing like 33%?
this doesn't really make sense, there is nothing stopping lower level teams from playing in open. after they start losing, they will be scheduled against other teams that have been losing. thats how esea scheduling works.

Paying to get rolled for 1/3 of a season before getting decent matchups is, surprisingly, not attractive to newer teams.

this conversation really doesnt need to go past #2 and #5
The best platinum teams are pretty similar in skill to most mid open teams from what I've seen.

In reality most first season Open teams are not expecting to be High Open or win Open at all, or at least that shouldn't be the expectation. Really teams that join as a first season will play that season, place probably mid to low open. Then next season when the stronger teams have moved on and they have improved, should theoretically place higher and do better.
Competitive 6's is a learning process and not something where you can play one season of UGC and expect to win Open.

What if open became free and a main division replaced open? Same prize pot and if we could get enough teams to live as a result of this split esea wouldn't have to lose money. Maybe open should be smaller than main or IM and only include only the newer and significantly less skilled teams. Plus think about how many more new players would play if the lowest division was free. Also we could actually start monitoring the divisions so that teams stop sandbagging lower divisions just to win without trying.
You can't expect instant success.
UGC is a good place to start because it's free, if you have people quit or flake out, it's not a big deal because you don't have anything invested into it besides your time. And if you'd be playing tf2 anyways, you haven't lost anything. But you have to stay committed to putting yourself in the proper division and consistently trying to get better.
I think a flaw in the way we've done things over at UGC is that some teams are content to just hang around in steel, think they're good and move on and then they get surprised in ESEA and die.
As long as you're committed to getting better it will happen. My old team started in UGC, won UGC, and moved into open and then eeked its way into IM - as long as you're committed it's ok.
Yes, you will get rolled in open, in fact, you'll get rolled occasionally in every league unless you're a member of Mix^, Bp, etc.
Main would be sweet, but it wont happen because IM teams have an extremely short life expectancy.

I understand, but players, as well as teams, are hesitant to make the commitment of time and money to ESEA when they know that a large portion of their matches won't be close. People play to have fun, and when they start losing badly, it's really easy for teams to fall apart. Unless there is a viable way to seed teams before the season starts, ESEA isn't going to attract the UGC crowd.

I don't believe UGC has a any more viable seeding system and plenty of teams get rolled very frequently. Though the monetary commitment may be larger in ESEA the idea isn't to attract every player out there. That is UGC's job. ESEA is to attract all the more serious and committed players that want more than UGC.

tbh, after just changing from backing up for a UGC 6s team to a ESEA one, I really don't notice that huge of a different, skill wise. It's exists of course, but it's not like I went from playing UGC teams and doing great to playing ESEA teams and getting wrecked. I mean I have very little real experience playing 6s (my team rarely needed me then) and I'm doing ok. Not great or anything, but I'm not getting wrecked.
ESEA won't put up a free league. It's actually quite expensive. They already lose money every season on TF2.
I don't see the problem if all you have to worry about is mackey trolling you should have seen the teams in other open seasons. the fact that you have that many new players and are still doing good should show that open is fine
sneaky please stop, you're humiliating yourself. we lost because we didn't scrim the map enough, not because they had mackey. gotta put the practice in to win especially since we don't have much experience, just like you pointed out. just chill n press forward.
yeah there are definitely more threatening scouts in open than mackey.
