I've already beaten it and the episodes multiple times on the hardest difficulty. Also it's not anywhere close to an arena fps.

I don't know man, your options come down to:
Quake 1/2/3/4/World/Live/CPMA, Xonotic, Reflex, Toxikk, Warsow, UT Series, and Ratz Instagib?

Definitely missing a few out, but when it comes down to it, not many AFPS are left to offer to you until Diabotical and Quake Champions come out. I also don't know what your definition of dead is, but Reflex/CPMA are fairly alive/hanging, you just have to join one of their discords(such as the one Ben linked for CPMA).

Its not an arena shooter but you could try Dirty Bomb.

altho Hi-rez are actively trying to kill its uniqueness.

I doubt it, jarate and the loch and load are extremely viable options and I don't see people reverting back after trying them out.
just because they are new doesn't mean that people will try them out and throw them away, competitive players are pretty good at adapting to new and better options, although they rather not have them allowed if it means the game becomes less fun to play.

Fortress Forever is cool and people even play pugs there

Other than that try Ratz Instagib, although its pretty inconsistent in terms of playerbase for some reason I encountered a lot (I mean A LOT) of tf2 competitive players there, plus it has hats plus its really fun

Thinking about anything else made me sad coz if Quake Champions isnt gonna be good, the genre is pretty much demised

Edit: since people started mentioning non-arena fps shooters I suggest to try DoD, its pretty alive and actually tons of fun when you understand the mechanics; Id include Pirates, Knights & Vikings or whatever its called too buf not exactly sure if many people play it these days; overall lots of Source multiplayer games got their small communities so theres a lot to choose from

how is this different from the pql/turbo mode from quake live ? afaik they both have the tf2 airstrafe mode
and why are the pql/turbo servers always empty ? i enjoy it more due to the similarities with tf2

cpma has different physics with ramps and stairs iirc
i'm sure there are other differences but i've never played pql so i couldnt tell you

Dirty Bomb is a very cool and fun game but competitive is dead and the game unfortunately doesn't get content updates often at all and has performance issues, still enjoyable nonetheless.
