learn to air strafe and how to strafe better there is a lot tutorials and by practicing you will learn to predict soldiers and any other classes and your movement will be better
plus you should move randomly and not in a pattern in addition to be unpredictable
but generally you should work on your positioning more so you wont be in a situation that you have to dodge anything
but you should know how to as well...

Look at the person thats shooting at you
think about where they might shoot next
move to not there

and practice practice practice

also fish also explains dodging in relation to your team well in his guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUZJQAOo4ho

be able to move around the map without turning to look at everything (ie jumping onto blands train and still looking at the enemy instead of turning around and fumbling around trying to crouch jump and somehow failing)
please for the love of god don't try to pull a cookiejake and give them the no look and expect it to work (only he can pull off this advanced maneuver don't try at home kids)
think there's a b4nny video out there explaining the basics of this stuff but tbh all you have to do is not walk in straight lines and practice playing the game
movement shouldn't be too big of an issue on medic though (unless ur a not and get farmed by market gardener soldiers cause u run in straight lines) you would be better off getting the hang of positioning and basic stuff like uber management and tracking ubers

Ultiduo is probably the best to improve your medic mechanics and its also really fun and rewarding for skilled plays.

not always a good idea to surf away from your teammates. Into the enemy team just because it looks cool

Practice sentry jumping with wrangler at different distances and angles to better understand the timing and momentum when surfing maybe? You can do it alone, too. Just a thought.

I agree with bear, even if it is my video! The situational awareness of when to surf into certain spots is a tough skill to hone, and I don't think I show good examples in those videos. One of my biggest flaws in my med play in-game, I think.

Still useful information as a proof of concept, though.

I mean the very most basic idea is:

1. If you're being attacked by a scout get inside the hit-boxes of friendly players - since scout ammo doesn't pierce hit boxes you will have your very own meat shield. This often makes your movement somewhat wonky as well since most scout players will expect you to move side to side as opposed to just going inside of whomever is closest to you. It takes a bit of practice - especially if your meat shield is trying to dodge the scout as well lol.

2. If it's a soldier move forward and backwards unless forwards puts you right in their face, or backwards takes you too far from your team - then revert to trying to keep bodies between you.

3. If it's a demo spread as far away as you can from your teammates so you don't risk taking extra splash since demo projectiles *do* penetrate hitboxes.

Other than that it's just a matter of getting comfortable with the various maps. consciously attempting to avoid fire (as opposed to randomly spamming inputs which is most peoples' knee-jerk reaction) and getting used to recognizing situations where you will be attacked. Also don't turn your back on chokes - 9/10 when a medic has a really embarrassing drop it's because some dummy came up behind them and asked for a buff and the medic turned around and nobody said anything when players flooded through choke lol.

As far as surfing goes, it's a nice skill to have, but it's massively overrated. In the first case because surfing away 100% of the time can be detrimental to your team in many situations, and ultimately result in your death if you get *too* far away. Secondly, any decent soldier won't shoot you in the feet to give you the opportunity to surf in the first place - if they do it's because they're panicing or they're careless. A good soldier will *slightly* miss their first shot so that if you do attempt to surf you'll just go straight up in the air, and a truly exceptional soldier will just shoot you in your brain case and you may end up cratering :(

idk why teams are throwing their medics at you, to be honest instead of dodging them i think u should just kill them

but i guess if you really want to know, medics got a tall but slim hitbox so as long as you strafe left or right u should be able to successfully dodge the medic

as for surfing if you live near a coast theres plenty of classes you can take. if youre inland you might have to just do online courses though

There was this http://www.teamfortress.tv/27143/tr-medic a few months ago. I know Tury mentioned it but there's a few medic oriented maps more. They're kinda fun and could be useful if you're new.

But the best way to practice is to people against people who can even kinda aim. Playing pub medic won't help as much as scrimming. Also playing other classes (soldier/scout/demo mainly since that includes hitscan and both kinds of explosive damage, as well as being the most common sources of damage) should familiarize you with how the classes work. A common thing higher level medics do for example is count rockets and decide whether to pop or not depending on if the soldier has time to reload another one, as he will do no damage otherwise even if he's in your face and being super scary.

Ultiduo is also amazing, and should help with arrows and uber counting too.
