i asked my dad to buy it for my 12th birthday when i saw this
my brother used to play in like 2010 and I played on his account until 2011 when I bought the game for myself, been playing since.
i quit csgo in may and this game seemed pretty cool
my friends told me to get the Orange box so I could play with them on the xbox and it seemed like a good deal because you got 3 games for like 20 dollars.
my grandma died and I got her 2013 macbook and I've play tf2 on it ever since
thanks granny

My close friend core in highschool was playing it, they pressured me for weeks to give in and play it. Never really wanted to because I wasnt a big FPS fan back then. They got me pubbing, then a year later someone I played hockey with convinced me to try competitive.
cousin got me to play this demake called Gang Garrison 2 for a couple of years, and really enjoyed it
Decided to try TF2 out because of it, haven't stopped
there were PUGs in that game too, so I got hooked on competitive TF2 immediately
i registered on steam to play half life 2 after watching davidangel64's playthrough and saw TF2 on the front page of Steam was free-to-play so I decided to download it for giggles. I kept it in my library for 2 months because I was scared about playing against real people, but I fell in love with it as soon as I got in my first game. (and after playing the shitty tutorial)
I still remember seeing my friend's dad playing mvm when it first came out in 2011. Looks like the coolest shit ever with all the tanks and stuff. I never looked back.
older brother bought the orange box on xbox to play it and eventually played it on pc
i made fun of the way the soldier yelled "FIRE FIRE FIRE" and said it was a shitty game while i played gears of war
then i got the money for a decent pc and started playing in 2010

I watched tons of TF2-YTPMVs before I even knew what it was. Found some SFM videos a bit later and found interest in animating after I got an own laptop. But when using it I always ended up just running and shooting around so I got the game and played it ever since. The end.
Seriously, I got like 15 games I bought or which were gifted to me which are not even installed and completely untouched for several years since I just barely have interest in other games anymore.

Some friends in school got me to play it. Little did they know I would continue playing even after they quit >:D
IRL Friend brought over the orange box to my house and let me borrow it for the 360, i played it for like 2 hours and got the gray matter achievement and was hooked. Saved up for my own copy and got it on the pc in 2010 and have been playing since
Friend moved from Christchurch to Auckland after the 2011 quake. He talked about TF2 and got a bunch of my other friends playing so I got a laptop and started playing TF2 and the free copy of Portal 2 on Steam you get for buying the game on PS3. So I got into TF2 due to the Chirstchurch Earthquake.
The other day, it was the only Steam game available for Linux.
Saw the game when it came out but had no money or a good enough PC to play it so it was Doom 1 & 2 and Jazz Jackrabbit 2 until 2011 when the game went F2P and I had a decent PC that could run TF2 at 50 fps.

Spaz is way cooler than Jazz.
I was super lucky that my first exposure to tf2 was this salamancer cast.

my brother got me to play it shortly after I got my gaming PC
found competitive through /r/TF2 (lol)

i had the orange box on console forever ago but only played tf2 once just to give it a try, i didn't really care for it back then
i can't find the video anymore because all of twitch john's old youtube videos were privated but i watched a video of him playing soldier in a viaduct pub and it made me give this game another chance because i saw how much better the game looked on pc and how you could actually customize the game with a different ui than the standard one

my mom got L4D2 when i was 13 for me which made me download steam. so i ended up looking at a few other games on steam and i pretty much ended up playing no L4D2 at all because i was too busy playing tf2 instead. srry mom.
I've got an Orange Box from a friend for my birthday in February 2009. However I was mostly playing HL2+episodes and CSS that I already had on my account. Then later this year I somehow lost my account (I think I got phished lol) and got a new one (the one I'm currently using) in early 2010. Then I started playing more TF2 and it really grew on me.
I first saw it from one of the ytbers, and two years later I saw it on Steam, so I downloaded it.
I wasn't playing so much, mainly I played only cs:s. But my favorite server was closed, so i started playing tf2.
Then year later, I started playing competitively.

A friend showed me the game in 2012 and I didn't like it.
