...Awards (damn it title limits)
http://store.steampowered.com/news/26415/
ValveIn November, we asked the Steam Selection Committee to nominate games for the prestigious Steam Awards - and while we expected to receive a large response, even we couldn’t have anticipated the over 15 million nominations that came through.
But the time for tabulation is over. The Steam Selection Committee has spoken… here are your 2016 Nominees. Come back every day from December 22nd to December 30th to vote for each award, and find out the winners on New Year’s Eve!
...
December 24th 10 AM PST
The “Test of Time" Award – This award is for the game that is just as good today as the day you first played it. Newer games may come out, but it doesn’t matter… you’ll always come back to play this one.
- Age of Empires II HD
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
- Sid Meier’s Civilization V
- Team Fortress 2
- Terraria
Question is, will people actually want the game to win it, or will people protest and vote for something else?

Kinda surprised I don't see tf2 up for this award as well:
The “Love/Hate Relationship” Award - “Games are just supposed to be fun!”… oh sweet summer child, your naivety is adorable. Games can be more than fun. They can be challenges that demand perfection. These games are punishing gauntlets that make you question your very skill… a crucible that will push you either to greatness or a breaking point. You will wake up family members as you scream. Words will come out of your mouth that would make your mom blush. Your chill friends will ask you, “Why do you play something that stresses you out?”… and you will stare at them with steely eyes and reply, “Because I love it.”

morrowind hasn't aged well but the combat is such a minor part of the game it doesnt really matter
oblivion feels like a beta version of skyrim and is kind of ass
daggerfall has aged the best of the TES games tbh

That list is retarded. None of those except tf2 and Aoe2 are old.
Between the two, I'd give it to AoE though, because it's the oldest but still awesome, and the price might get new people into playing it, which tf2 doesn't need.

Civ V is definitely a better game than the newer civ games but I don't know no think it'd categorize it as 'just as fun today as the day it came out' because the base game sans dlc/mods was kinda meh

Plenty of games that are better than all these but aren't steam games that I would pick over them all. Starting with my first game 20 years ago: Quake1

did Half-Life 2's "game that deserves a sequel" nomination not get as many people as I thought it would or did Valve just deliberately ignore those votes http://pix.iemoji.com/images/emoji/apple/ios-9/256/thinking-face.png
also TF2 has NOT aged well. There's still a great game hidden under there but pubs have only gotten worse over the years, the game can hardly run for plenty of modern (if not high end) PCs, and the vast majority of the playerbase is kiddos trying it out for the first time because it's free. This game is undoubtedly worse overall than it used to be.

bought civ 6 ot bored and started replaying civ3 becuase in that nearly 20 year old game the A.I. is actually the most threatening on higher difficulties.
nice to see someone else here agree with me hah

This is our only chance to win, after this, I think tf2 will go downhill more, we need the community to vote to promote TF2

I don't mean to be rude but you have to have read literally 0 books in your life to find the plots and philosophies explored in the Bioshock games elucidating or compelling

I think Skyrim is objectively a bad game (heavily consolized, shit writing, and the usual Bethesda laziness) but even ignoring that Skyrim isn't even the best or the oldest Elder Scrolls game.
Fucking normies REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

The awards are bullshit anyway, the most popular games will always win because everyone likes to vote for the game they like the most. I mean, how did CS:GO win the "Just 5 More Minutes"? When you want to play another game of cs:go, it will take like 45 more minutes instead of five minutes. Maybe they should've renamed the award, but one game in Rocket League takes 5 minutes so it fits perfectly.

There were only 2 games that had stood the test of time at all, however poorly, of the candidates and neither of them won lol
