i think it can be pretty easily proved by looking at ips or location data, if i remember correctly steam does look at that if you claim a hijack or that your account was being used by someone else.
I mean not much anyone can do. Sharing accounts violates the steam TOS so i doubt they will be sympathetic about this.
CollaideTbh why are you not more careful when you have an inventory as expensive as that? I'd never lend out my account except if I was sitting right next to them.

because the guy that got him banned is a world class dick. It doesn't matter if you are friends, if they waste your 20k you probably shouldn't be friends with them anymore
if you don't get the account back make him pay
E:nvm it doesn't matter afterglow is a rich white boy and a pussy bitch

What if a cheater:
Uses a VPN
Leaves his home to go and cheat
I highly doubt that this guy is losing his vac. It will also be hard for him to claim a hijack since steam already has so many security precautions thst it's practically impossible for more than one person to use an account unless they are deliberately account sharing.

Here Afterglow, this may help
If you contact VALVe support, even though it may take a while, if you give explicit information about how the VAC occurred there is a small chance of this ban to be lifted. It has happened to people in the past who have used programs similar to razer synapse, but from a non-trustworthy company, to get VACed and have said VAC lifted if enough information is given. Steam VAC support has access to the reason the VAC was occurred, how the program was installed (injected into the game, aka hacks; or other reasons), and the ips that have logged onto the account (not to shure about that one, but the first two im positive.) Since there where no hacks on you account as you claim, and it was merely the same phone number, then the account should be entitled to some form of compensation, since the VAC rule is if your account is hijacked, the account is banned, and not the person. This is to prevent the, "someone else was on my account" excuse. Its your account, your responsibility. But since the ban was triggered not through your account, but the account with the same number as yours, it may have a chance. Ive seen people get unVACed in the past, and while it is rare, the unbans have been for reasons much more controversial than this. Providing any and all information is necessary, while maintaining a format that is professional and polite (hope you passed sophomore English lol).
An automatic response usually is sent back saying how VACed accounts are unrecoverable, but if you request a person to look into the event backed up with your grounds of doing so, someone might manually take a look at it. Now, whether they decide to unban you or not is at the mercy of whomever is reviewing the ban. Trust me, i have done this myself before, and they have looked into it.
I would act quickly though, since the longer you are VACed, the lesser your chance of review is.
Good luck with your VAC, and hopefully this was to some assistance.

Wow, that's rough. Condolences and best wishes, man.
Eh, obviously hindsight is 20/20. He would not have hacked had he known all my accounts linked via the steam mobile app would get banned too. I got the steam mobile app literally as soon as it came out. I'm like 99% sure there was no policy on chain banning like this... Definitely would've noticed it. They've since updated their ToS and I just didn't know about it. Jondy didn't either. O well, money is just paper. Not the end of the world.
edit: thanks jduff for the info

wonderlandits from being linked to the same phone number as an alt that got vacced by someone else in cs ><
VAC bans are taking out innocent people via phone sharing but notorious tf2/csgo hackers get away with all kinds of shit. Why is VAC so fucking retarded?

The chain banning has been a thing for quite some time. In fact it was a major point of discussing during the april vac wave that affected lmaobox. Sucks
this site is weird people here literally despise people who hack but they just let people talk about hacking all the time
I mean, it was pretty obvious what the intent behind the "premium matchmaking" on CSGO was. There was a reason they grouped people who had linked a phone number together: the phone number is a valuable anti-cheat resource.

bro i didnt remove you to spite you, i removed everyone on my list cuz i was being spammed about how much of a piece of shit i am. i already messaged you personally telling you how sorry i was, but i doubted a few petty words would have made any difference, so i kept it brief and decided to let time solve it. i never intended for this to happen obviously, if i knew vac traveled through accounts connected to a phone number it wouldn't have even crossed my mind. i'll have this guilt hanging over me for months, probably years, especially since i've had good times with glow as a friend on a regular basis. kudos to zike for starting a hate thread about a topic he really has no business dictating, but i guess it had to happen eventually. after all, were only human, and mistakes happen. hopefully at some point me and glow can have a few more laughs together, but for now im deciding to lay low for good reason. sorry man
