This is a thread made for some albums you recommend to other people. You should include the genre with the album so people know what they are getting into.
I personally recommend: Blonde - Frank Ocean (R&B) To Pimp A Butterfly/Good Kid M.A.A.D City - Kendrick Lamar (hip hop) Take Care - Drake (hip hop) Awaken, My Love! (soul/funk)
this thread is not only for hip hop and r&b!

Gonna try and put some lesser known favorites of mine:

Tonedeff - Polymer (2016)

One of my favorite albums of last year, the beats on here have sort of a 65daysofstatic/Swans feel at times, and Tonedeff's rapping is incredible. Tons of complex rhyme schemes while never falling into "lyrical, spiritual, miracle" territory.

Thurisaz - Scent of a Dream (2004)

A mix of black metal, prog metal, even some death metal, this is definitely my favorite metal album of all time. One of the most beautiful metal albums I've heard as well, I can play this any time and love the shit out of it.

Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy (2005)

Great indie rock with one of the most impressive and underrated singer/songwriters in the genre, Will Sheff. The music isn't too revolutionary, but always solid, and Sheff's voice and lyrics always make up for it.

Forgotten Tomb - Songs to Leave (2002)

Best depressive black metal album I've heard. Great riffs, powerful vocals (although they did take some time to grow on me) and it never overstays its welcome. Not a huge fan of that subgenre from what I've heard, but this is definitely a gem.

Shiny Eyed Babies - Bent Knee (Alt/Experimental Rock)

I've been a fan of the guitarist of the band (Ben Levin) for a while now, but only recently listened to this album. I immediately fell in love with how creative and inventive the band is, they're really unpredictable, and I feel they're one of the few that can pull it off.

Acts I-V - The Dear Hunter (Mix of Prog and Alternative Rock)

This is a 5 album overarching concept about a boy and how his life went to shit by his own hands that takes place around 1900. All of them are incredible. I like 2 the most; but I think as an album, 5 is the best. These records really grow on you the more you listen because they all reference each other with motifs and lyrics and its really fucking cool how well its done.

Supersonic Home - Adventures (Punk/Grunge/idk)

I have no idea how I found this band, or why I like them. I think it might be the female vocals, but who knows. Check them out!

for my under respresented metal bros out here....

Demigod - Slumber of Sullen Eyes : finnish OSDM. obviously if it is OSDM (and also finnish) it probably has substance.. and substance is abundant
Spell - For None and All : inspiring heavy metal album. will lift your mood if you are down
Absu - Tara : fantastic black/thrash album, has some very attention grabbing drumwork
Darkthrone - Soulside Journey : you might know them for their black metal... but did you know they also made really good DM? guitarwork on this album is ambitious and well arranged
Vulture - Victim to the Blade : as fenriz puts it, "if you don't like this album, you don't like metal" also, yes, this album was legitimately released in 2016, and that fact should warm your heart

Soulside Journey is the most underrated Darkthrone album of the first 5, it's so good but completely overshadowed by the proceeding black metal albums. Still gotta give my favorite to A Blaze in the Northern Sky. I'd def rec Soulside if anyone wants DM by one of the best BM bands

THEBILLDOZERBlack Sabbath - Paranoid
you can never go wrong with this album

ya i second paranoid if youre looking for some like roots doom metal
esp their first album (which is my fav) if you want something even slower

The United States of America a fret-less bass, an electric violin, a ring modulator, and a very talented drummer make psychedelic rock.

Grouper - AIA probably my favorite album of all time. Ambient, drone, folk, best for late night listening.

:zoviet-france: - Mohnomishe Industrial, dark ambient, weird, sounds like 'fourth world music', or 'future-primitive'.
