Leaning towards the SteelSeries 6gv2 red switch edition, but I'm really not sure about it. I know the red switches are great for gaming because of their light feel, and I feel like I would enjoy the light feel to type with, but some people have suggested I got for browns/blacks with what I'm looking for. can anyone here weigh in on the best mechanical keyboards for someone with varied interests?
i got the cmstorm and im loving it, would totally reccomend, although there may be a downside that im unaware of, i have had a great experience with it, although it is expensive, i splurged.
I'd say browns.
I'm using a Filco Majestouch 2 (tenkeyless) with browns and typing on it is like 5 orgasms at once.
I find the little click is really nice for both typing and strategy/moba games, and for fps games it's irrelevant because you're holding the keys in.
..and although I can't confirm this, I've heard people complain about reds being too easy to press, leading to accidental presses when resting the fingers on keys.

don't forget the key layout...
I personally like the ANSI layout, but some prefer the ISO.
Steelseries went with an ISO layout, disgusting.

I've been using reds for a while, you get used to them in about a week or two :)

CM storm quickfire blues. Feels like typing on a real keyboard and has been great for gaming. I like hearing when I've done the action. It's also a 10 keyless short board so there's more room for your mouse.
love the razer blackwidow ultimate. Cherry mx blue switches
I have a board of MX Blacks and it's a pain in the butt to type on, so avoid those keyswitches. The actuation force is huge.

Where the hell can I buy these? The only ones I can find are $180 on amazon, surely they aren't all that much

I've read this about the blacks.. pretty sure I'm not gonna get them.

lol, this is the one I currently have. I don't like how clicky it is, looking for something a bit quieter and different

I'd rather not buy the exact same keyboard again just for a different switch. Would like to try other brands and styles while staying away from Razer at the same time.

I know what you mean, I want to get a tenkeyless, the wire for the Blackwidow is like a garden hose. :\

honestly what it comes down to is, you get what you pay for. while everyone has their own price range for new gear sometimes its better to just wait a little longer and save so you can chip out that little extra. in most cases the price can justify the quality if you know what you're getting of course. i'd say the same thing for headsets and monitors etc. you buy something good and take care of it, it will last a long time

I use a Majestouch 2 tenkeyless with linear black switches since 1.5 years back and I've been really happy with it. Linear switches are by far the best for gaming and I even prefer them over tactile and clicky switches while typing/programming. Don't worry about the resistance of MX blacks, I play scout and can easily switch direction several times per second without overlap. I wouldn't switch them for reds. Unless you write novels there is no reason to anything but linear switches anyway and in that case you should probably buy a modern day IBM Model M to go with your linear gaming keyoboard. Also, get a tenkeylesskeyboard if you can, it will allow you to move the mousepad and keyboard closer together which is more ergonomical, especially while typing. For you Europeans, The keyboard CO is probably the place to go. I've ordered from there with no issues.

bought this keyboard when it was on sale (except mine is white and has unlabeled keys). love it, highly recommend it. leopold makes a quality product.
make sure you do your research on switch colors
brown has a great feel that isn't as loud as blues

Filco is good. Lots of people selling them for cheaper at geekhack.org
Leopold is good and economical, I like mine with browns. elitekeyboards.com
My CM Storm TKL with reds has given me no issues, I slapped some blank white pbt caps on it to make it not look like poop. mechanicalkeyboards.com
If you don't need a fullsize board, look into some Vortex boards. They are good boards, and they look fucking dope in my opinion. Highly customizeable too if you're looking to pimp it out. mechanicalkeyboards.com
