Seeing as how controversial this is, I thought I'd ask for some opinions here on them. Usually, I pay no mind to these videos, but something about this one is very :thinking:. Not to mention even his fans disagree with him at least from the comments which I don't think is typical.

To open discussion more broadly, do you think that Engineer's meta weapons will ever see a place in 6s/unbanned on the whitelist (i.e. Rescue Ranger, Wrangler, etc.)? How can these even be balanced for all-around competitive play and casual play if that's Valve's (supposed) ultimate goal?

Watched the whole thing, and I mostly agree with what he's saying.

Nerfing the engineers pure defensive capabilities and making him more mobile / a team support character with healing teammates and those speed buffs makes him more viable for a comp setting esp on 5-cp. However making the engineer equal to the medic would be a bit much, he would need to be visibly lower/worse than the medic when it comes to healing other wise there would be no reason to run a medic.

He addressed most of the major annoying/gimmicky weapons though I do feel the Short Circuit got off a bit easy but idk.

One thing I don't really agree with is that you can make Engi a healer on par with Medic. Unless you significantly buff dispenser healing and let Engi carry it on his back to deliver AoE heals to his team (which is quite ridiculous).

I agree, and true, if the Short Circuit ever wants to make its way into a game format like 6s then it can't impact explosive classes so heavily.

Not only is it a hard thing to accomplish, but if it's somehow done then, in my opinion, this devalues the point of Medic. If you give a class like Engineer, which is definitely better equip than Medic, a viable way of healing even close to the Medic then there's a chance of the Medic falling into obsolescence.

Like both of you said, I also think that making the Engie equal to the Medic is pretty absurd. Not only is it a hard thing to accomplish, but if it's somehow done then, in my opinion, this devalues the point of Medic. If you give a class like Engineer, which is definitely better equip than Medic, a viable way of healing even close to the Medic then there's a chance of the Medic falling into obsolescence.

i don't know how a constructable jump pad would even work. i was thinking of something more like a pad that gave you a speed boost similar to the disciplinary action effect would be good maybe?

Pad should only give the speed boost to the engineer who build it though.

i think it depends, is this pad a teleporter replacement pda? if so, i think it's fair for it give at least a reduced speed boost to all the classes and a full speed boost to the engineer

I've always said making the class less about sentries and more about team based support making the engineer into a more "offensive support" would be the right way to go. There's always going to be backlash to this though because classes like engi are highly specialized and changing them in ways to give them a different niche pretty much has to change the entire identity of the class which people are never going to like. However I don't think you're ever going to see classes like heavy or engi balanced properly for anything outside of defending if they have a powerful minigun or sentry gun.

Engineer has a PDA inventory slot (which I think is only used for strange PDAs) so there is potential to add more PDA unlocks which could have the different types of the buildings proposed without completely over hauling how default engineer is played.

people give Dane a lot of shit, but he's actually not a fucking idiot and for the most part agrees with most of the opinions that the majority of the people in the upper end of the 6s community has.

although I will disagree with him on the short circuit, fuck that gun dude.

never gave him any shit, just never really paid much mind to his videos is all i said. didn't want to give off any bad vibes if that's what you got, sorry.

i really do like dane as a bigger voice in the community because he does have smart ideas (and a big brain like all us engineers :^), and he presents them well and formally. it's unfortunate that there's inherited hatred from being a youtuber imo.

I agree with the video, although having 2 healers makes the game very slow, you remove one dmg class and add one healer so killing anything is much much harder. id rather have engi focus on utility and support kind of like the banners and kritz/ubers

I think it would be interesting if teleporter exits built near-instantaneously and had entry portals in each spawn so they don't become irrelevant when you spawn further back or forward. As a trade-off, they would only get three teleports before the exit blows up and upgrading to level two and three would add three extra teleports each time and only marginally decrease the spin-up time(10-8-6 seconds for example, instead of the 10-5-3 I think it is currently). You could even leave teleporter entrances as an extra option so you can still do sneaky things, both the entrance and spawn portal would just lead to the same exit.

But I think Zesty is right in saying that you would have to fundamentally change the class and consequently piss off a lot of players to make the class more interesting and less annoying to play against outside of last. This would probably involve making it worse at last defence in some way or another, which kind of destroys its specific niche.

Engy is fine in its current state the only reason ud change it is if ur a spastic baby who wants to run their specialist main whenever they want 'cause it should be viable xd'. Honestly the fact that people are even entertaining some of his half baked ideas is ridiculous. And I usuallt agree with the man lmao. Keep RR, Wrangler and SC banned and engy limited to 1, dont add any retarded AoE heals (which would be a death sentence for competitive 6s in its current iteration IMHO) just because 'hurr durr the game needs phreshening' or because someone wants to run their dumb ass specialist main 24/7.

He's a situational defensive class that strives on his designed purpose, defending. Stop trying to make him into something he's not. Even with the gunslinger, the engineer shouldn't be an offensive class. He should not be viable throughout a whole game of 6s. Weapons can use some tweaks but that's really all we need to do for engi, not anything major as Uncle Dane is suggesting in his video.

I like the idea of giving him something similar to a banner as a secondary, although I'm not sure what a good method of charging it would be. The conch is, in effect, AoE heals and a speed boost together at once, but nobody complains about it because you can't use it all the time. Obviously, engie should not be viable full-time, but I think changing him in a way that discourages sitting in one spot whacking a level 3 with a wrench would be for the best.

Honestly, for the wrangler, I'd make the shield to give a 16,66% resistance only (270 HP, still 3-shotted by direct rockets and pipes). And make it so the sentry heals itself with damage done (the amount would need to be calculated for it to be balanced)

This forces the engi to use the wrangler offensively to get the real benefit. Instead of just changing to wrangler and instantly swapping to just get the stalling shield.

This wouldn't work against ubers, lowering the defensive capacities, it'd work against Vacc/Q-Fix/Kritz tho.

The healing returned to the sentry would be quite low tho, since sentries have huge DPS
