you add up for your class until all 12 slots are added up on, teams get sorted through a division scrambler so the teams are somewhat even, assigned map is set before in a rotation. i think as medic you could buddy up with 1 player so you end up on the same team

This is exactly how the old version worked.
We have made some changes to the queueing system.
Those include:
- Map votes (finally). You will be able to select a map out of three.
- There is no limit for adding to the classes anymore. This means that there can be 5 scouts. When there are enough players ready to start a pickup, the 4th longest joined players which are ready will be removed from the queue and play the pug.
- As a medic you can still pick another player to be with you.

can you add to multiple classes? would be good imo so you don't have to guess which class will be in demand 2 pugs from now or something. it could choose which class you play based on how many are added up to that class after you to try even it out

From my past experience, pugchamp is better than tf2pickup in every possible way.

Only reasonable explanation to use TF2Pickup is that you would surely get to play whenever you want to play without having to wait for a captain to pick you up if you're a no name.
Other than that, there's not really anything else good about it. I just hope that it wouldn't divide the community to a group of people solely only staying to play in PugChamp and others to only play in TF2Pickup.
Also are soldiers finally separated to pockets and roamers? That would be another reason to stick with PugChamp so two players who would both want to specifically play only roamer or pocket could already set their class before joining up.

Wasn't this generally disliked back when it was a feature on the old old TF2pickup? Personally I quite like the idea of only being allowed to add up on classes that benifit starting the pickup as soon as possible (i.e. only classes that arent full)
The point that I always quite liked about TF2pickup, and pretty much everyone who used to play on the old TF2pickup that I've talked to seemed to agree with me, wasn't that the games were incredibly high skill. Instead it was just a quick way of getting reasonably balanced games and a decent level. Having queues for classes encourages players to just add up on say scout and not actively contribute to starting the next pug.
I understand that at the end of the day it's mostly personal preference, I do however think that not having queues is more beneficial to what I believe most people appreciated about the old system.

Yes for 6v6 the soldier class will be split into roamer and pocket.
