liasPubg is a fucking embarrassment, h1z1 is a better game.
middle earth shadow of mordor is a horse shit bamham combat assassin's creed reskin with a cutscene every 5 minutes
-Phantom-csgo doesn't seem that hard gamesense wise, and is mostly about who's got better dm* (i mean aiming ability not movement)
thats kinda true that u can just steamroll players with worse dm in that game but there are like a million players with super crazy aim in that game and the thing really sets most players apart and is the difference from "decent esea pugger" and someone who can actually play at a decent level (main+) is gamesense.

Games like Hollow Knight and Celeste have far better and more rewarding movement/combat systems than most other games do today
there are very few good tf2 jump maps, sitood maps, jurf, eons, etc are all really overrated

the only rng (I think) in that game is critical hits, which are easily its biggest flaw. i would argue its not at all RPS because even pokemon who have really obvious disadvantages have ways of protecting themselves from those disadvantages being exploited.
theres also accuracy and damage spread (all attacks have random variance). as well as quite a few move-specific rng elements.
that said the while nature of the simultaneous turn system means you have to make guesses and play mindgames regardless. competitively its best to treat it like poker, where rng is an inevitable factor but youre meant to play the odds. even then there are several degrees of reliability you can go for in teambuiling (usually at the cost of predictability or the ability to control the flow of the game). theres definitely a lot of depth to the game and rng can still result in bullshit wins, but once you and your opponent are competent at the game its usually not gonna be a dice roll to see who wins. theres an online battle simulator if you wanna try it out without spending 30 years making an ingame team but low ladder is dumb as rocks so it probably wont give the best impression.

we are currently in the worst age of video games, with all your AAA multiplayer games designed for you to sink money in it, rushed and unfinished games, and the plethora of developers trying to hop on the battle royale scene. jesus even indie developers just put out complete rushed garbage now

I still think vanilla Minecraft is incredibly fun when played with friends
AntimoonA better RPG than Morrowind will never be made.
Most popular esports are boring to play and boring to watch (looking at mobas, CS, Overwatch, and most fighting games here).
Link's Awakening was the best Zelda game, followed closely by Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages
CS is more fun to watch than any esport and many real sports (looking at u football and baseball)

Idk how well this fits in here, but I'll say it anyway:
Holding up a series like Mass effect as "art" because one thinks they are "good" and "tell a story" isn't useful discussion, it's just an excuse to circle-jerk what you like and piss on everything you dislike. There is a lot a lot of shitty media of all forms out there that is art all the same*; and if you want games to be seen as art then you should accept a lot of art is justifiably seen as bad. Some of it is even fantastic in spite of being horrendously bad - Ed Wood's stuff is full of classics. And ... that's okay. Nothing wrong with a little bad art in life.
But, trying to pass off the bad as "not art" and the good as "art" is a pretty cowardly attempt to dodge a conversation about what and why art is considered good or bad in the first place. Of course, the anger ]from journalists and 'authority figures' (hi Bioware devs, who couldn't bear the thought of making something videogamey) towards people like Investig8ivejournalism who originally made this argument comes as no surprise, because they were never interested in making art in the first place.

Marxist- Half life 2, while being a good game, is directly responsible for the poor state of the FPS genre currently.
That's an interesting one, why do you think so?

competitive video gaming isnt fun and really takes away from the whole meaning of the game itself
BarryChucklesigh is a better pocket than yomps and froyo should never have cut him

Sorry to necro this thread but... *deep breath*
- honestly the lego games are loads more fun than most titles released nowadays. not to mention you get the full package when you buy the game, no dlc bullshit or anything
- fighting games other than smash deserve more attention
- already mentioned ITT, but the gamecube is the greatest console of all time (also, pokemon colosseum and gale of darkness are super underrated)
- if marvel had a fighting game similar in quality to injustice 2 dc would be blown out of the water on the video games front
- combat in fortnite is fucking stupid. ex: "im out in the open with little to no cover around me oh shit i took 4 points of damage time to build a fucking mansion in 10 seconds" and from my experience basically whoever has a rocket launcher in late game ends up winning. its no wonder the avg player is under 14. good gun mechanics tho.
- overwatch is fun but blizzard is trying waaayy too hard to push it as an esport.
- stun/slow/fear mechanics have absolutely NO place in video games. why would you implement something that prevents you from, well, playing the game??
- stryker from mortal kombat is a total badass. his design/gameplay (basically a swat officer who zones with guns n nades n shit) is why lots of people hate him, but its the reason hes my fav character.
- competitive pokemon (vgc not smogon) has so much potential to be awesome but its terrible because they allow mons that you literally cannot win without (ultra beasts, non-box legendaries with really high stats, etc), taking away from the creativity aspect of teambuilding (seriously, go look up teams from recent tourneys. its the same 20-30 mons)
- if sonic 06 wasnt a buggy mess and there wasnt human on hedgehog action in the plot it probably would have been a solid game

the lego games are godly and fun for the whole family.
if ur family forces you to spend time with younger family members for some reason, it's a really solid pick to pass the time.

Almost everyone I know and personalities I have met online thoroughly enjoys Sonic Adventure & DX. I even have friends argue that it's better than Sonic Adventure 2 (which is untrue).

the sniper class is not a good component in videogames and adds little to gameplay
Final Fantasy Dissidia on the PSP was my favourite FF game
hayesi was bored this morning so I made some power rankings.

if the game doesn't play like wizardry 4, it's not an rpg
soulsbourne games are fucking trash, elders scroll games are also trash
zelda twilight princess is god awful and skyward sword is infinitely better, likewise zelda 1 is horrendous
ff7 is trash, mgs 5 is garbage, kingdom hearts entirely is a fucking shitstain
in general when game developers remove an iconic aspect of their game in a series' sequel to retain creative integrity its a terrible decision and the game turns out awful cough zelda botw

runescape has some of the most watered down multiplayer mechanics in any game (let alone any mmo) ive ever played
sure there's the GE and occasionally some cool pvp players if you can find a decent group but other than that your peer-to-peer exchanges usually boil down into "stop stealing my iron dickhead i need that"
shield of arrav was the most arbitrary requirement for friends and i dont know why that quest still exists
dungeoneering came out for RS3 but was honestly too little too late as you could essentially solo dungeons and when you did play it with friends you just rushed to do everything alone without their assistance, multiplayer wasnt really necessary for that skill until level 100+ when you needed someone else for the boss to attack
the game would honestly work a lot better for what it is if you could just play in a world alone
