valve gets a year and a half to sit down and do nothing besides rework pyro, and the only substantial changes that they made were doubling his dps and making airblast combos completely irrelevant. valve is clearly too scared to make big changes to classes, so we shouldnt get our hopes up for the matchmaking update or the heavy update, because they're too afraid of criticism from randoms on reddit to make any big steps in the right direction, or any direction for that matter. the best way to deal with the pyro situation, as other people have said, is simply class limit 0.

The (perhaps) saddest part is, from raw numbers, they didn't double his potential DPS. If the number I've found is right (166 DPS) it technically got nerfed. It presumably only feels like double DPS because of how little you have to aim it, yet in the hands of a highly skilled player it still has less potential than Pre JI
Pyro's skill indexing now is just so... bad... You can literally just flail your mouse at people and get kills in pubs. The 100 hour pubbers were the reason they killed the axtinguisher, weren't they? Weren't those old nerfs done to appease the "I installed 2 weeks ago and pyro is op" crowd? Because this update positively enraged that crowd if SCUD is any indication. How could you get through playtesting this without realizing the gun is aiming itself? Are the devs just incomprehensible casuals? How did this take a year and a half to make?

Nah you could have perfect flame tracking pre JI (which wasn't hard the hitboxes are the size of trucks) and do piss poor damage because the hitreg was fucking terrible unless you had 5 ping. Not to mention with mojo or whatever half the time you have randomly less range.

Was LAN pyro like night and day compared to 110 ping online matches? I haven't ever found much LAN pyro gameplay to compare to, and my internet connections have been unremarkable even to nearby servers

I've generally played pyro with 60-100 ping online and can confirm that playing it at FITES lan once really hammered home how much better low ping is. Felt like I didn't need my secondaries near as much because flames actually worked. Can only imagine what it's like now.
Anyway, pyro blows now. I didn't get to try it in highlander until december but very quickly decided it wasn't for me anymore. They completely destroyed the small amount of skill and finesse you had to have with the class to the point that I don't understand how anyone who played it before could find it enjoyable now.
I don't really like the airblast changes either and I think it's going under-the-radar how bad it is simply because the flamethrowers are even worse right now. Old airblast behavior was fine, especially post tough-break. They should have just made it harder to "hit" someone with it. I even vastly preferred going up against pyros who were m2-happy with the old airblast because I had at least developed the muscle-memory to correct my aim when airblasted and do a minimal air-strafe to throw theirs off a bit. Now it's a crapshoot whether I'm going to get groundstalled, fly/slide across the map, or have nothing happen to me at all. There were some annoyances sure but nothing compared to how the class is now.
They fucked it up bad and sadly the best thing they could do would just be to revert it at this point.

we gotta think of someway to get an official justification from valve as to why they are keeping this shit going. with this amount of backlash, constant threads, pubbers, comp players and Huey facking Lewis saying its shit, any other game would of released some kind of justification or changed it back, some kinda dialogue at the very least
perhaps i write strongly worded email to them? thatll shake em up

Overwatch has low skill ceiling classes that are still somewhat viable because of the niche they have. While still keeping pyro viable gnerally, if somehow we can find a niche that isn't sneaking up on players and dealing close range damage, I think pyro will finally be in a nice place.
In my opinion, that niche is to delete pyro entirely.

I can't speak for others but I know the only reason I play now is to play with friends, but even that isn't enough for me anymore as I slowly feel my brain cells eroding away and I'm pretty sure another season of this will be detrimental to me physically.

Yo really dumb suggestion out of left field here but what if pyro's base health was 150 instead of 175?
People tend to give pyro a lot more heals nowadays and it's so easy to just walk at people flailing your mouse around with 260 health getting tanked. idk but to me fighting a pyro wouldn't be nearly as aids if he just had less health (pretty sure the max buff would be 225, a lot more bearable than 260). sure you can still melt people but you would have to be a LOT more careful about the fights you took. idk about you guys but i'd like to be able to headshot an unbuffed pyro without chargin a shot. Plus, it sorta makes sense for a class that revolves around ambushing enemies -- at least in the eyes of the game devs -- to be slightly squishy.
This is probably the most direct nerf i can think of (that, and no minicrits on airblasted projectiles) that couldn't potentially break the game again. Valve has already broken flamethrower mechanics beyond repair so balancing the class around its crazy damage output seems to be the next logical step IMO.
TLDR: make pyros base health 150 and remove minicrits on airblast

just give him a goddamn lg already and be done with it
no even better just give him the plasma shit from quake

I think addressing the problem (the fact that it takes no skill) directly would be more worthwhile that just tiptoeing around it.

I'm really getting a laugh out of the dichotomy we're having in this thread; people using logs (some even using damage logs, of all things) to make a point about Pyro being too strong on one hand, while on the other, not realizing through other logs of the same person that they're usually performing better than their Scout teammates even while not a Pyro.
Friendly reminder that:
A) Literally anyone with a Shotgun can ambush a person better than a Flamethrower Pyro can, and they can ambush someone just as well as a DF Pyro.
B) Any of the three "damaging" 6s classes can pull similar results, especially Soldiers and Demomen when it comes to damage dealt; you're not convincing me with these Pyro logs when I've seen things like 12.0+ K/D ratios coming from the rawest of raw 6s meta.
C) Scout -- the actual Fox of TF2 when it comes to pure 1v1 potential -- has all the tools in his arsenal to make the Pyro look like a flat joke; a Scout always has and always will beat a Pyro 1v1 at the same level of skill, much like how he can beat anything not named a Sentry or a Hacker.
While I will concede that the Pyro's airblast on the Flamethrower primaries is absolute bonkers and that his flames could use a tad more see-through, complaining about the Pyro's AOE damage like it's out of this world is like asking me to emotionally slap you in the face with the JJJameson Laugh clip from that Spider-Man movie for how ridiculous you sounded just there.

Hello-hello, welcome to a Steam Profile like many others.
I'm "Sergeant Brown", but you can just call me "Brown".
I'm a 22 year-old College student currently living in France. I write and speak 3 languages fluently and I've been playing video games for as long as I can remember.
Besides that, I also have smaller interests in a few other things like music, drawing and memes.
I play all kinds of games depending on the mood, but I generally default to TF2 otherwise.
I also dedicate some time into making game screenshots and SFM posters whenever I feel like it and/or whenever the opportunity presents itself.
And that's about it. Add me to your friends list if you'd like, comment something stupid down here or laugh at my SFM posters & game screenshots; the Internet's a free country mate, and we're all memers on the inside.
A quick note though: I wasn't born yesterday, and I *will* see through your scamming attempts (not that I usually have much worth scamming for anyhow); you have been warned.

cute big words and melee comparisons my dude, but you're either missing the point or either pulling a strawman
pyro takes no brainpower, it will win in most situations, it crushes scout in 1v1/2v2 with a med by a huge margin
a scout needs to meatshot 2 (3 if buffed) times, back to back, while dodging at least ~20% of flames to reduce the DPS to a level where's it's virtually possible to kill the pyro (in most cases, the scout won't have the time to fire the last shot and will die before).
a pyro has to look in his general direction and hold m1
contente toi de jouer a Spiral Knight ou avec tes crottes de nez.

Sergeant_BrownFriendly reminder that:
A) Literally anyone with a Shotgun can ambush a person better than a Flamethrower Pyro can, and they can ambush someone just as well as a DF Pyro.
This is entirely wrong. Pyro as it stands now allows you to deal maximum damage to multiple targets simultaneously when flanking with flame particles that interact with the people they touch multiple times per second. If you think that a shotgun or scattergun is more effective than the current flamethrower in terms of flanking then you clearly haven't played enough of the game to even be making this comparison.

I'd love to know what the "rawest of raw 6s meta" is that you're talking about. Sounds to me like you're using buzzwords to make yourself seem more informed on the subject than you actually are.
You complain about us cherry-picking logs when your counterargument requires you to do the exact same thing, making you a hypocrite.

Entirely and utterly wrong. I can't begin to count the amount of times I've seen people play Pyro in pugs and w+m1 into invite scouts and easily kill them just by flinging their mouse around and not aiming at all. Even I've done it and I have a total of 20 fucking hours on pyro between the three times I've reset my stats and I'm definitely not as skilled as some of the people I've done this to.
You shouldn't be able to run at the best players while flinging your mouse around and kill them no matter what class they're playing just because you impede their ability to see and deal over maximum damage with no mechanical requirement to achieve payoff. It's poor balance and poor design.

It sounds ridiculous because you're too inexperienced to understand why Pyro is broken.
