what does se7en think of using these kinds of racist players like credu in their games ????
Weird as fuck.
And yeah, Se7en, like everyone else, should call people up on it. More so than most, even. I've thought that before.
Come to think of it, I think Credu was the guy who played an official as 'nig of the nog', which nobody bothered to mention, even broadcasters.

I feel like the reason why some people in the TF2 community are assholes to others is because they think they can get away with hurling insults at others in a small community. Compare this to Blizzard, who practically fine and ban those in OWL that instantly make any derogatory comments.
Honestly, people that are massive jerks to others just because of their race, gender or sexuality need to take a good long look at the mirror and think about their actions

Probably a bit late in the thread to post this, but I think not a lot of people would see it if I posted it to twitter. Probably not gunna surprise anyone
after i started transitioning:
- was harassed in my own stream by an army of alts. I don't know who any of them are but I am certain are from tf2 since that's all im known for
- branslam constantly berating me in jump servers, being transphobic and calling me trash at the game (idc about the latter)
- after i blocked and muted him, he changed his name to translam for some number of weeks
- called a tranny by so many ppl i cant count, most adding a 'kill yourself'.
- Cody and Akemi being transphobic to me in faceit, both got banned
- multiple ppl from the -tt circlejerk being openly transphobic to me
- close friends refusing to refrain from using the word tranny despite me constantly telling them to stop. one of them said that he doesnt consider it a slur because it 'sounds cute'. caused me to just leave that circlejerk despite having many good friends
- incredibly creepy and unwanted attention from some, mainly crypt and someone else from jump who i dont want to name
- not trans related, but ive been told to kill myself by itac for making a jump map
All these people I am name dropping are repeat offenders that show no signs of stopping their behaviour. I have some friends now that used to be awful towards me but have changed. I think that's important; there's always time to change your behaviour; youre not locked in to being a bigot.
The reason I stopped playing 6s and am VERY close to just leaving this game altogether is that it depresses, infuriates and frustrates me. A good amount is how 6s has changed over the years, but mainly because it reminds me of all these people, and how nearly none of them received any consequences over what they said. Most are in positions of power, and so I cannot really do anything about it. Hell, one of the most transphobic people in this community, mireal, has 3 jump maps named after him.
I don't really know what to do about it if I could even do anything. Ban players? Change those map names? That would help me personally but it isn't something that's going to happen. The most salient memories i have of this game are awful.. but i still love playing whenever i block myself off to these memories.
I've avoided posting something like this because I was an awful person too when I played. I've said shit that still haunts me and I feel that it invalidates everything that I just said, like I deserve it in one way or another.
Also, 'have thicker skin' is just an excuse sociopaths use to discredit the notion of empathy (paraphrasing from John Cleese here)

GentlemanJonToo late for that.
I've been on the fence about keeping my various bits and pieces going, and it's just not worth it is it? The unchallenged levels of toxic behaviour make it an embarrassment to admit to being involved in comp TF2 now. This seems as good a moment as any to make that decision.
This has been something I've been thinking about myself albeit I'm not on your level of useful and only moderate TrueTF2 on Reddit. I finally joined a plethora of the older HL players I know who primarily stopped playing due to this kind of behavior awhile ago and now the sub is the only real attachment I have left to the game. The only thing that keeps me going is I'm in a position to actually moderate this kind of behavior away even if it's only from a tiny niche part of the community.
sacwhy punish the silent majority of frendly tf2 gamers
The silent majority is a large part of the issue in the first place. This kind of behavior does not go away with being quiet. It goes away by being drowned out and punished. The silence of complicity and the silence of dissent sound the exact same, especially to the victims. If it takes actually important people like Jon to leave to start lgetting people to wake up and speak out/take action then so be it, tbh.
faust_i was more addressing any individuals living in the u.s who agree with the premise that people shouldn't be allowed to say what they want to say,
Freedom of speech only applies to the government restricting citizen speech (even then there are a ton of common law exceptions) and receive information and never has - and hopefully never will - applied to private entities. You have the freedom to say whatever you want, you do not have the freedom to say whatever you want without punishment in a private space.

if someone wants to go around being extremely abusive then so be it
conversely if people dislike that and want to take the piss out of someone for it then thats fine and healthy to do
just end it there, making 30030650 pages of posts telling people to 'grow up' isnt going to work in a community populated by teenagers

MirealHellbent Hell, one of the most transphobic people in this community, mireal, has 3 jump maps named after him.
Hellbent, I am not sure who you are but I assure you I am NOT transphobic. The word "phobia" implies that my fear of your kind is irrational, which we all know is not the case. I have watched in silence as your kind has infiltrated all that I hold close to my heart; tf2 jump; my local golf club, and Sainsburys, but with your direct attempt at defamation towards me I feel inclined to strike back. Be warned, the Mireal Army does not take prisoners.
you and your friends posted transphobic things in the looking threads of nearly every trans person, with most of you getting banned. im sorry but 'my kind' is pretty fed up with that
EDIT: guess mods are cleaning up :)

a girl making drama posts on social media encounters negative comments, it is the end of the world boys.
srsly grow some fucking skin burgers and if they actually get banned on etf2l that will be the dumbest shit ever.

but that's a major reason why OWL fucking sucks though

At least Blizzard is considerate about maintaining a positive PR image for OWL compared to what's happening in TF2 right now.

It's not new, there are toxic peoples in every community
Players can be stupid but a league like ETF2L don't do any thing to punish them as long as there are no complaints from any one, even though, when there are complaints, they don't wanna make a ban to a premiership team, would compromise the whole season, rules need to be more strict and need to be applied.
Any player that play ETF2L at a very high level is representativ of the community, it's not just B4nny & co.
I mean we won't be big esport but if we loos the few sponsors we have it's gonna be even worst, I think we all play TF2 caus we love it therefore our actions should be in favor of the game, not against.
On the topic
I have nothing personal against degu or pred but they should receave a punishment indeed.

The mental gymnastics that some of you are going through to justify being terrible human beings is actually incredible. Also:
samifacewhen community figures retire and say they're tired of the toxicity and pettiness and no longer wish to commit their time/energy/money/passion into improving and supporting the game, you're who they're talking about.

People get banned from ozfortress all the time for shit like this, and we're still around despite being much smaller than ETF2L. Everyone should be allowed to play and enjoy this game without being ridiculed and harrassed for being who they are. There's a huge difference between trash talking and how Uberchain was treated. Like damn it's not hard to just not be a dick I don't know why such a surprisingly high amount of people have an issue with it

I think mods shouldn't "clean up" in this situation tho : in a thread that aims to tackle the issue of LGBT hatred/being complacent about sexual abuse, this kind of declaration (that of Mireal I mean) is very representative of the unfortunate build-up of so called "rational reasons" for hating on LGBT people, and I'm afraid deleting that post only reinforces the belief that some "kind" is trying to "infiltrate" every layer of the society and "dismiss" "normal people" as perceived by people like Mireal, which really is the exact contrary of what we truly should strive to achieve. Cutting people out of public debate, even when their opinion is definitely outrageous, doesn't quite help with reconciliation and debunking hateful myths : think of Clinton's attitude and how she was perceived among the "typical white Americans" she indirectly dismissed and you'll understand why Trump encountered such success.
P.S.: if unclear, I definitely think Mireal's phrase is bullshit, but we have to understand how and why such bullshit can become popular in the first place and act consequently.

Ban Muuki too for being such a shitty fucking edgelord. No video game scene is worth putting up with these sociopaths.
This post is a negative contribution. If someone's personal beliefs are truly that abhorrent, then it shouldn't be a problem to explain to them why. Name-calling Muuki doesn't do anything but say "I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY DONT LIKE YOU!!!!!" - you haven't said anything meaningful. There are no arguments or points made.
Furthermore, 95% of the people in this thread have said "just be NICE to people..." - but why is that particularly favorable? Why is being "NICE" seen as an intrinsically good thing - and why should I be unconditionally nice? It's a competitive environment, and in all competitive environments, animosity should be expected.. Why does the CS:GO community embrace banter and shittalk, but we reject it? To create a dogmatic environment that is supposed to breed yesmen like what most people in this thread seem to be asking for is unachievable in all aspects; an infinite project, a dog chasing its tail. In all aspects of life, there has to be a struggle in order for you to have a will to continue your daily quests - this is why for every hero, there is a villain. Unfortunately, most of you seem to have a will to achieve comfort and pleasure, leaving no heroes. There is no productivity in comfort, War is a necessary aspect of all societies.

god this thread is such a fucking depressing read
one of the worst parts to me is the ratio of people who understand that it's unacceptable to bash the LGBT community and use blatantly racist language and those who defend its use. Like is it that hard to just not be a degenerate to others, and ignore them or use regular trash talk/banter?
You take a quick glance at our community and quotes like this one from Cornpop's twitter make sense: we raise thousands for teams to attend intercontinental competitions, many more thousands for various charity causes, and produce talents that go on to do amazing things in other games (Lange creating nodeCG and working with GDQ, Dashner working production for a number of high-tier esport events are the two that come to my mind as a producer myself).
However, once you get pulled into the community, you find incredibly quickly that it's filled with nothing but toxicity, circlejerks, and blatant bigotry that's widespread through the competitive scene globally. Honestly seeing not only events like this occur, but also the way that many in the community respond makes me very embarrassed to call myself a part of the community.

most of this thread is people pouncing on an opportunity to farm upfrags. that being said its pretty cringe to keep bring up "talking points and counterarguments" like were in the comment section of a ben shapiro vid. you dont need to write a thesis to see why this is bad my man.

most of this thread is people pouncing on an opportunity to farm upfrags. that being said its pretty cringe to keep bring up "talking points and counterarguments" like were in the comment section of a ben shapiro vid. you dont need to write a thesis to see why this is bad my man.
InternetIntellectualStylaxYou tried way too hard.
Poor effort.

InternetIntellectualEnterimWhat a fucking joke of a scene if it's remotely controversial to ban people this toxic, shitty, and anti-human. Absolutely disgusting.
Ban Muuki too for being such a shitty fucking edgelord. No video game scene is worth putting up with these sociopaths.

Ah yes, the intellectual returns with another flawless hot take.
Why is being "NICE" seen as an intrinsically good thing - and why should I be unconditionally nice?
Because if you're an asshole nobody likes you. example: you.
Nobody said you have to be nice unconditionally. Do I try to be a nice person? Yes. Am I being nice to you right now? No. Why? because you deserve it because you're an asshole. Very hard concept.
It's a competitive environment, and in all competitive environments, animosity should be expected
Uberchain isn't part of the competitive side so I have no clue why you'd think this applies to her. She knows many competitive players, has attended events and made SFM arts to promote events. But this is no reason for any "animosity" to be aimed at her. And she got harassed for posting about how she was sexually abused so it wouldn't apply even if she played comp TF2.
Why does the CS:GO community embrace banter and shittalk, but we reject it
If cs:go players say the n-word in a match they'll get banned. There's limits. And it's time we set those limits in TF2. Also if you think there's no shittalk during games then you've never watched competitive TF2
You are very disconnected from reality and are just typing the first thing that comes up in your mind hoping it applies to the situation (2 nerd essays in and nothing has so far. Keep trying buddy. You'll get there eventually)

wew this thread is quite the ride
all persons aside (as i have no connection to anyone involved) if you are tossing around slurs and think they are 'funny' then you need to get your head checked and find a new life

Maky Pred and Degu haven't done anything wrong
MakyI am by no means defending these two players
what
Also, people just need to continue speaking up about these sort of events to help others realize that their horrible behavior is wrong. If nobody is telling them they're stupid and horrible people they will just continue their actions, but if they keep getting told that eventually it will wear them down and hopefully change them.

honestly, this community at every level is filled with toxic people. i've never been on a tf2 team's discord and it not be rife with racism and hate. the problem is is that we've accepted this in the metaculture for too long. it shouldn't even be a question whether or not leagues have the right to ban you from playing in them if you have a history of being shitty to others.
a personal aside: i know how difficult it is being raised around racist people and to not be racist yourself. being constantly told about how "other people" are and not even batting an eye about using slurs is pretty commonface. but being a part of such a diverse community as this, where there's a hell of a lot people from different nationalities, women, lgbt+ people, and people in other kinds of minorities, and it should hit you "i know a guy who is X, why do i say awful things against X people?"
