New system is far superior in my opinion, has way more benefits overall even though it’s not perfect. I think the map pool prolly should just be increased to boost the variance of the maps played

maybe you could elaborate? I just think forcing teams to play maps they don't want to play along with not having control over who you play on those maps is a good system. along with practicing a map then not playing it again for 8 weeks, this system allows you to practice your specific map pool.

what exactly are the major benefits from a forced rotation? genuinely curious seeing as your response was pretty short.

You always complain that new maps never get played but you're in favor of the system that makes it so new maps never get played

MikeMatlucrativeYou always complain that new maps never get played but you're in favor of the system that makes it so new maps never get played

The system doesn't make it so new maps don't get played. The players ban those maps or try and coordinate bans with other teams and that's why the maps don't get played. Blaming the system because you and the other team decide to ban everything but process snake and gully isn't the systems fault.

If you want a successful system a few things could be improved, but adding more maps while keeping a 3 ban limit would inevitably get more maps played. Alternatively you could just not coordinate every ban to try and play the same 3 maps. The issue with what you are saying is that there are only 8 weeks, meaning that you have to remove maps to add new maps. Knowing this community people aren't going to remove a map from play for a new map that hasn't been played for 10 years.

BuffMcStrongHugeBlaming the system because you and the other team decide to ban everything but process snake and gully isn't the systems fault.

Teams are not incentivized to ban the popular maps.
Teams are more likely to pick maps they invested time on (this isn't limited to officials though, scrims take place in this).
Teams are more likely to pick maps they can be sure will never be banned.
Because of all this, teams are more likely to pick for the popular maps.
This is a positive feedback loop (X happening makes X more likely to happen more) and it's right into the design.
I don't think you can blame the players on that one.
It's genuinely the fastest way to have all teams only play the most popular maps.

scrims literally always start late, even on days when both teams have a match on different maps. so then it results in like ~10 mins per map...

People ban maps they don't know, because they'd rather put time into getting their team better at maps they know than learning a new map. Especially with this awful system where you don't know your map until a day ahead of your match and everyone is on different maps so you only get half a scrim session on your map. There's no point even adding it to the scrim rotation because we're never going to play it. In they old system, every team would be able to plan ahead to learn it then have a full week of scrims and matches on only that map. It's entirely the systems fault that I have played zero new maps the past 3 seasons where I would have played at least 6 matches in the old system

if like 90% of people ban the same usual 3 maps (propaganda, product, granary/badlands USUALLY) with the flawless system we have now why the fuck are the maps even there just get rid of them

1 map a week simplifies scrims by a ton because every team knows what map they need and everyone has all season to practice a certain week and understand maps and gives every map a chance to be played. someones personal opinion shouldnt stop an entire team from playing 3 certain maps all season.

its rare but annoying to find scrims with a team expecting to play X map only for them to go "oh yeah we ban that map every week lol"

MikeMatlucrativeYou always complain that new maps never get played but you're in favor of the system that makes it so new maps never get played

saying im just complaining seems like you're implying I just voice an opinion about these things and nothing else, Im one of the only people initiating map development for 6v6 and engaging mappers with the community so they don't all disappear from a lack of interest and you all end up playing granary and badlands for the rest of your life (which is what people actually complain about). I might complain, but I'm comfortable saying i'm the only person trying to actually do anything about it (along with the regular testers).

In regards to your comment about the system, I personally don't think forcing teams to play new maps is a way to make them like them or want to pick them up. The old system is better for "fun" since you get to play all the maps but you objectively cannot argue that having control over the maps you focus your practice on and having control over the maps you choose to play in matches is not a more competitive format, you can't. There isn't a legit competitive FPS being played right now that forces teams to play certain maps. adaptability is an underrated aspect of high level play in any sport or eSport and its an aspect of almost every competitive game that's played except ours. This is something I think TF2 is missing in terms of teams attitudes (in general) towards wanting to play new maps, teams should be looking to pick up new maps and practice them to include them in their pool when another team doesn’t. What happens right now is everyone pugs and practices the same 5 maps and no one makes any map outside of that their staple map which might draw a ban while your team can ban out the more popular maps.

New maps are likely going to be the only new content we will be able to bring into the game and forcing maps into a week of rotation didn't work in the past (most maps never stuck around that were added) and propaganda thrived this season in the current format and I believe teams in general liked the map.

This of course is all opinions based around the format being as competitive as possible, if the vast majority of teams just play for fun then ya, forced map rotation is better. if this isn't the case id love to hear some points other than "you get to play all the maps" being the major benefit of the old system.

Hey, just wanted to let y'all know that I've updated propaganda with some of the feedback from Season 30, go check it out! https://www.teamfortress.tv/post/936967/cp-propaganda-5cp
I'm super thankful to everyone that took the time to leave feedback on it, it means a lot to see people enjoy the map enough to want to see it improved.
