Can we talk about how fucking awful the rewind 2 documentary was? No offense to uberchain who I'm sure worked super hard on it, but I absolutely hated it. The whole narrative of tf2 being "over" and how everyone was moving on to overwatch was pretty tough to swallow considering rewind 2 was a lot of people's first lan. The overall atmosphere of the lan leading up to the doc was amazing, it was like everyone was already getting ready for the next rewind, and then in comes the doc saying that this shit was already finished. The whole thing was so negative and sour towards tf2, it felt like it was shooting us in the foot.
Rewind 2 was EASILY my favorite lan, and the doc is easily my least favorite thing about any of the lan I've been to.
If someone else is going to try and make a tf2 doc, make it ABOUT tf2, not about the birth of shitty overwatch, and the overwatch pros who wish there game wasn't boring moba bull shit.
End rant

A lot of people agreed when it was released. It's fine to mention OW and how TF2 names finally got the recognition they deserved but it focused on it way too much.
Things make more sense now with the logs of Dashner expressing bitterness towards TFTV because they didn't want to move to OW and the birth of essentials.tf

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J6LlRjblCuI this one made me appreciate the game but has that same kinda TF2s dead vibe Highfive is talking about i dont like the rest of them
twitch chat was also emotional ;~;
but with the unveiling of recent events u think dashner was specifically forcing this narrative in order to further sabotage the game? kinda fcked up. i just rewatched it and theres like literally so much of dashners face in it

The memory I took away from the Documentary was kinda summed up by Sideshow when he said "Keep your sponsors, and your eSports, we're just here to enjoy our game" (paraphrasing)

yeah I couldn't agree more, rewind 2 was amazing, but I ended up going for a walk during what seemed like a solid 15 mins of overwatch and a super sad vibe like wtf were they thinking??
even completely ignoring recent events, maybe a good time to bring up how big of a disappointment a lack of rewind 3 was for all of us? the past 3 years or so, the people in charge of this community (aside from community heads who actually play the game at a high level) have had a super poor track record when it comes to everything from organizing events to organizing shit online
the juxtaposition of forced professionalism and complete incompetence is honestly fucking laughable.
also, yeah really cool for sideshow to come out and say that at the end of the doc, it doesn't really change the fact it seemed like a massive advertisement for an awful game that we all know is worse than tf2
id like to edit this to mention the fact that while i feel like im a little irritated at the current state of affairs, *obviously* people who give their time away to support this game are good people (its a great game) but hearing about some of the stuff with BTS was honestly a complete joke, its nice to play nice and do nice feelings but really our community is not in a good spot and there should have been a much larger recognition by our community leaders of our game's state as a hobby and not an esport

unravno offense to the people that make them, but most of the lan outros are structured like corny emotional farewell montages
worst offender being i58 outro and intro where they were very desperate to push the storyline of it being the last lan (just cos they themselves werent gonna do it anymore). i think the other outros are pretty cool tho

Yeah, I kinda agree. I have mad respect for (now most of) the people who worked on it, but eventually this little game will fade away and leagues will all shut down and for those of us for whom this was a hugely important and formative part of their lives, we'd be better served by having a happy and fun filled documentary to remember our little community and game by.

For the record: everything you guys have said is probably valid, and I encourage people who liked and disliked it to give feedback even now (and if my concept was stupid too). In terms of not meaning to offend me: doesn't make it hurt for me any less.
I will add that ignoring the shit Dashner's done, I do appreciate the work he, Loris, Shounic, and others put into the film, and I do think their product was good for what they wanted, but the message might not have been conveyed well. I did bring up that concern but it wasn't listened to by Dashner, who was dead set on his direction. I hate that now so many things I've worked on are now tainted by how I thought while I was still his partner, I was convinced I was making a nice emotional thing for TF2 but I do recognize how it could be interpreted as destructive rather than somber.

idk i guess i get being bummed out by it but i mean this is post "valve finally acknowledges comp and it fails as hard as possible," and you gotta talk about it. it still spent a lot of time trying to emphasize that yes, the game is fun and we have fun playing it. theres other tf2 content that exists that has very positive vibes, there shouldnt be anything wrong with looking at the whole picture.
i guess theres a line where it does go on too long about it? idk. pushing it in that direction for reasons outside the game is disgustingly selfish.
