No reason for rgl not to disclose specific ban reasons to those banned, full stop. So what if the banned player can deduce who ratted on them? Chances are the person who ratted on them has them blocked on steam anyway and I doubt anyone on this ban list is going to a lan anytime soon. Now for an epic rant:

I'm personally getting sick of degenerates trying to take the community hostage by saying "the game is dying and nobody plays it so banning me will kill the game, now let me say the n-word." There's people in this community that drops slurs not only regularly but also maliciously, and those who do the latter in particular should be banned. This is not controversial. Nobody is so illiterate that taking away their ability to use slurs restricts their ability to express themselves in any significant way. Not only do these people drive others away form the community, but they also prevent others from wanting to join the community.

Side rant, just because someone is good at the game does not mean they should have a free pass to say slurs. If anything that's ass-backwards, because the players at the top of the community should be setting an example for everyone else. I'm not saying top players should be treated more harshly, but they should be treated like everyone else, alongside the knowledge that their behaviour in-game has a greater impact on the community than most. I'm just adding this in because it's the same hostage-taking bullshit in a different form: "I'm really good at the game and not a lot of other people are so let me say the n-word."

But yea, just let the people you ban know why they're banned so I don't have to hear people making these same dumbshit arguments over and over again thank you.

I think the main issue here is that some of these bans were by association which sets a dangerous precedent in itself. When you consider the fact that many players that should be banned aren’t on that list it just makes this seem more like a targeted ban wave to this group specifically instead of strict enforcement of rules.

While I won't speak on most of the bans, I will say that I think that scratchh has been trying to change and that out of the blue banning him seems very unfair. Over the past couple months where I was playing with him, I felt like he was putting meaningful effort into trying to change and he was trying his best to become a better person. What he's done in the past was very wrong, but he's trying to change and become a better person, and deserves a second chance imo.

it's nitpicky but, I really dont see what kuhnockers did to deserve this. he's been one of the most upstanding people i've met through team fortress and helped me off his own intuition when I was in a rough patch.
