#124 The ESEA abuse thread in TF2 General Discussion
SneakyPolarBear
A poorly run/evil/overpriced league with LAN is better (in some players minds) than a well run league with no lan and less prizes. This opinion divide here seems to be PREDOMINANTLY (not exactly, not even close) the same divide between invite and the other divs.

It's not a divide between invite and the other divs. It's a divide between UGC and ESEA. Every single player playing ESEA over UGC chooses the poorly run/evil/overpriced league with LAN.

I would love to see the community turn this energy and make an awesome league out of it. But nothing is going to happen unless you all get over the idiotic blind rage at ESEA and stop declaring yourselves against every single thing ESEA has to offer, even if it's vital to a successful competitive league.

None of you would be playing in ESEA if it didn't have prize pots and a LAN. Stop pretending you'd play in a free league when there's an alternative with prizes.

How many fucking times have we done this? ESEA does something stupid and everyone gets mad and then circlejerks in a thread about how they should get a new league because they certainly aren't in it for the check and anyone that is must be an ESEA loving scumbag and why haven't we already made our own?

Surprise guys, money has a greater impact on the game than what a handful of players in each div get in their mail each month. Money means commitment and competition, and that's what we play for. LAN is the pinnacle each player strives towards. Without these things you get UGC, which you all obviously aren't satisfied with.

I don't think people in this thread understand the purpose of an anti-cheat client. It's not to catch cheaters, it's to deter them. If players are aware that there is no safeguard set in place to prevent cheating there will be many more of them.

Not saying I agree or disagree with anything else in this thread, but not having an anti cheat is a significant downside when considering a league as a serious competitive scene.

#578 How to Get to In-Game Comp Lobbies in TF2 General Discussion
wareyaThey didn't want data. They wanted a system. That was literally the whole entire point of trying to come up with a system. Apparently we didn't come up with a system that satisfied their needs and desires.

No, they GAVE us the system. They wanted pick/bans, and asked us to play around with ideas. They didn't want a formula from us, they just wanted to examine our impressions of the formulas we tried. Besides, Valve isn't exactly known for doing things quickly. 6 months or whatever isn't that long for them.

Besides, I don't see what right most of the community has to comment on it, considering only a handful of 6s players actually got involved. If anyone's to blame it's the rest of the community for remaining aloof.

If they scrapped the idea it certainly wasn't our fault. We DID do plenty of test games, and we submitted the data just like Salamancer asked us to. Maybe they did give up on it, but if they did it's not our fault. And apparently Valve doesn't hold too closely to their philosophy of balancing by numbers considering the inexplicable change to the crossbow. The weapon banning systems were fine. Not particularly complicated, just needed a proof of concept.

#23 Confidence in Off Topic

Confidence comes from experience. The hard part is forcing yourself into that experience. Working out can help a lot, but what did it for me was my job as a cashier. I used to be really awkward in social situations due to insecurity (which in turn came from a lack of social experience). I started setting goals each day before my shift. 'Today I'm going to look every customer in the eye as I talk to them.' That's actually a pretty good one. You'd be amazed at how many people aren't capable of sustaining eye contact, and the ones that are are usually older. Experience breeds confidence.

That was pretty fun, regardless of whether or not it's practical (I think it is). It was really fun to just walk through the map and see how the areas joined up. You did a really good job adapting this to non-jumpers with the question marks and teleporter. I can see this being an extremely popular beginners map due to the easy difficulty and direct translation of these jumps. Plus the design and textures make the whole thing feel familiar.

Really nice job. I'm looking forward to the finished version.

#19 Different Sens for Hitscan and Projectile in Q/A Help
VortexYou should be able to do PRACTICAL rocketjumps fine with that sens, if that is your concern. A quick question of my own, though. Do any good jumpers actually use low sensitivities (12+ inches is my definition)? I've played a few of the harder jump maps where I've thought it's near-impossible with a low sens and had to raise it just for jumping.

While there's still a major variety in sensitivity preference, most jumpers I know tend to lean towards higher sensitivities. I play with 4.5in/360, which is still pretty extreme even by jumper standards, but there are a few others around there. Not that this means that every new jumper should go mess with their sens, plenty of good ones are at 10 or 12in/360 so it's all preference.

#82 RIP CROSSBOW in TF2 General Discussion
bscI fail to understand how the new crossbow is less useful considering you're able to put out a higher net average of healing.

You're not building uber when you're spending twice as long as you used to to put out the same amount of heals with the crossbow. You can justify a momentary break in building if you have a realistic chance of actually getting a pick or saving a teammate, but not when it takes two or three shots. Plus it's not very fun to land an amazing shot across the map and do 50 damage.
