a lot of frag-movie channels do heaps of post-recording work to make everything look more shiny or colorful. There was some program specifically for TF2 demos that adds a new skybox, adjusts the contrast/colors, ETC and then records it (since it's post-game it can handle a lot more intensive stuff), but I can't remember for the life of me what that program is called. I'm sure he probably did some vegas pro/premier touchups too.

You could always experiment with high quality configs or just maxxing out ingame settings, but I think the answer you're looking for is probably not something specifically applicable to ingame.

the list goes on, nearly every argument both sides make is fundamentally flawed. It's very clear whoever did the research on these games didn't know much more than the basics of each game, it's absolutely more about being trendy and relevant than it is about being factually correct. But that's to be expected from the same channel that measured finger length OF A RUBBER GLOVE and thought being metrosexual was socially accepted IN THE 1960S

Slightly OT, the more skins you own the longer your item list takes to load. Which is annoying because i used to have a lot of miscellaneous skins, which I had to sell because they turned equipping items into a 20 second elevator ride. add that on to the in-game delay of loadouts changing and it's very annoying

It isn't that people are prioritizing SFM over LAN, people making that decision more than likely aren't interested in LAN/Comp TF2 at all. It might be a different scenario if the person was an active esea player who tunes into championships for entertainment, but we're talking about players who don't view the game like that even after the matchmaking update, it's in no way fair to try and demoralize someone just because they spend money based on their interests.

I do agree money would have much more impact being donated to a teams travel, but i'm friends with mecha and he's very passionate about his work. He shouldn't have set himself up to be copyright-striken but he just took steps to fix it, and people enjoy his work so they support it. It's the communities choice to support comp, not responsibility.

The game will run at 120+ fps no matter what, if your build is capable of that. I assume you mean refresh rate on the monitor, which is how frequently the monitor updates to show frames. 144hz is best, definitely try and bargain shop around to find one. If you have to settle for a 60hz then upgrading later on when you do have the funds is always an option. 144hz is very distinguishable from 60hz when you try it out, but that's not to say you can't get into competitive without 144hz.

OP is getting into competitive, from a low level standpoint obviously 120+ is an advantage no matter what but majority of low level players probably wont be functioning on a level where you HAVE to shell out for a new rig to get into it. If you're playing at a higher level then the frame difference becomes more and more apparent.

OP also didn't mention what class he prefers so I was speaking in a general sense

I think consistent 30 is extremely important. 60 is ideal. 120+ is best, but not necessary to get into competitive

If you can play well while even under the pressure of 20fps drops, then you can still play comp fine. but it will still hold you back till you get at least 30 average

The cause is something like the game trying to load a material that creates the shine/reflection on the tiles, but it can't find it for whatever reason so it loads in the checkerboard with the same settings as the normal shine material would. No idea what the second picture is. I'd assume the issues are due to config settings, but you could try verifying files too
