termothats reasonable under the circumstances that there is betting on certain events/actions, but at this point that isn't the case and therefore i dont see why you shouldnt be able to bet on your own team
POW
Another fairly simple example that's relevant now is that it motivates you to spread disinformation about your team, making them appear weaker than they are and encouraging bets on the other team only to turn up with your full lineup and crush them easily. That's nothing short of simply ripping people off.
It also places you in a position of suspicion if there is genuine uncertainty about player's availability or other external factor. It's not hard to think of these downsides if you can take your mind off the item windfall for a moment.

That is utterly inoffensive, he puts it quite kindly.
The worst bit of the video is that he doesn't know as much about the HSBC scandal as he should.

Hello? Larry, it's the invisible jew.
chambsI'm interested in this. The wiki states that .dem files store raw packets to recreate a game. ...
Either way, my idea is to iterate over every tick, and at each tick loop through every player storing a traceray from their view angles in a history buffer
IIRC the dem files store network data that allows the client to re-run the game from the data it originally consumed. To do this outside TF2 I think you'd need to basically recreate TF2 to parse the .dem files and recreate the game situations. If my understanding of the dem file contents (not my area of expertise but I have read the relevant SDK bits) and what you're suggesting is correct that approach must be infeasible really.
In terms of creating something like this publicly you're just making it harder to catch cheaters long term because cheat writers will simply modify their hack to evade detection then put it in their marketing material - "Guaranteed chambs anti-cheat detection proof". A serious cheat detector should be made in private and in collaboration with anti-cheat teams.
HerganIs it going to be like team making in FIFA games? Or just a bit similar
My budget won't be quite as high as EAs, but as close as I can manage
Bump. Anything to say from the (EU) day shift?
kaidusAlso how are you going to calculate players values if there is no class specification? Like zebbosai on scout would have a completley different value in terms of $/points earned than he would on medic.
My thinking is that it essentially becomes the fantasy player's risk to take. You can buy Zebbosai, but have no way of knowing whether he's going to play scout or medic or fold the team. I'd try to price him at whatever it seems like he's playing at the start of the season and he may either becomes a fantastic bargain or a dead weight depending on what changes.
One idea I was toying with was a market mechanic so player values go up and down depending on their popularity but that makes it hard for latecomers to pick a top player, it could be something I only activate after a signup period, but it's complex and that would push back release a lot. Be an interesting element if I could get it right though.
The public beta is now available here:

ESEA Season 19 is the first league and there's only about 17 hours to go before the first match from the time of this post so mosey on over and pick yourself a team.
There are some players not included yet, Champagne and Cocaine are still uncertain as far as I know and hawaii beach vacation needed to confirm players last I heard. I'll make any necessary updates as soon as I know what's going on there. A big thankyou to Alkaline for helping with the roster information.
There will almost certainly be bugs, you can report them here or in the steam group or message me direct and I will get on with fixing them.
The FAQ should answer most of your questions but just ask anything you're still puzzled about.
termoi can obviously understand not being allowed to bet on the team you are playing against but how come you cant bet on your own team to win, isnt it just like more incentive for you to try your best?
There are a lot of reasons not to allow it but it boils down to the fact that it will change your behaviour. If a bet is placed in a spread situation, let's say win by a certain amount, it could lead to the team behaving differently than they would have otherwise and that means the betting market as well as the playing field is distorted.
While you might still be playing to win, you also might not do things that you would otherwise do, such as allow a merc or go slow for a couple of rounds trying out some different strats when well ahead. These things matter to other users of the site, and their judgements will have to change based on whether you have bet or not.
If the available range of bets becomes wider, betting on certain events or actions, then players would obviously fix that in their own favour once again altering the course of the game and changing the playing field for other punters, which undermines the service and starts to complicate the policing - which bets can players make and which can't they. The blanket ban simplifies things and theoretically ensures the game's integrity.
defyi see it as sal has been around tf2 for a while and he's well aware that mostly everything thats done here is ran independently. going off of if you want something done...do it yourself.
I don't think it's fair to expect Cherry to have to abide by a vague community standard just because other people have done things a certain way in the past. However he wants to fund the project is very much his business and there are lots of ways of potentially approaching that: donations, affiliations, membership, advertising, and of course a % cut. Taking a % may not be the standard in TF2 but it's very much the standard in gambling so you can easily argue both sides of the coin. As you say though the TF2 market is pretty shitty and may not be worth the time to convert them into cash, that's probably the most important element to consider.
AdmirableI'm afraid the screenshots were taken on the morning of March 28th, Gentleman Jackass :D

If you've taken any screengrabs then you'll need to do it again, some logs were missing
The Scots have knocked all sense out of you. It only affected Suave slightly anyway, no significant changes
KanecoWhere did u get the airshot stats? It wasn't in Jon season summary
They're all in the same database, I just forgot to put them in the summary and there wasn't any room left for new columns really. You'll just have to tune in for the final figures!
Accidentally left a few logs out, updated now - Suave, AwS and E-Shock affected
A few people have asked me for this so I’ve put together a simple table of the ETF2L Season 20 Prem stats split by classes. Filter classes or players using the search text box top right
http://beta.tf2playerrankings.com/stuff/season20
I haven’t done much checking for accuracy or correcting logs.tf oddities but it seems OK, ymmv
