#24 Spectating ESEA S14 LAN? in LAN Discussion
shadeRawrSpoonshadeAnyone from San Antonio or Austin driving up to Dallas on Friday somewhat early? I'm in need of a ride and if you don't mind me vlogging the whole trip up than that would be great! :)I'm four hours away from San Antonio, but I'll probably go somewhat early. I have to pass through both San Antonio and Austin to get to Dallas anyway.

How early is early?

Well last time I got in Friday really late, around 11pm. This time I'd like to be one of the first few there in order to shoot some footage as soon as a majority of people are arriving at the LAN, have to get those interviews fresh with the AG boys... looking at you indust. My other option is just to take the megabus or superbus whatever it is called from San Antonio up to Dallas which I dont even mind doing but I was just looking to see who all would be going to the LAN from the San Antonio or Austin area. (And someone who doesnt mind being interviewed on the way to the LAN as well).

Since it's an 8 hour drive, I'd probably leave around 10 AM, get to San Antonio at 1-2 PM, and get to Dallas 6-7 PM. Dunno how that'd work for you

#34 I'm literally upset right now. in Off Topic
ClandestinePzIgnorant people are winning the war, but no matter what the dictionary says I refuse to accept anything other than the correct definition of "literally".

By the way, if they ever try and make "irregardless" a real word I will literally burn all my possessions and live alone in a cave by the sea for the rest of my life.

You are literally a pedant x)

Holy shit guys.

You realize that this "degradation" of the English language has gone on for many many years, right? That there's a reason why English in 2012 is very different from English in 1700 even though they're both the same language? That there always is and will be a subset of people upset with new colloquialisms or shifted meanings on words?

I don't understand why it's considered "butchering" the English language. If you look up the etymology of many common words, I can guarantee you'll find a few whose meaning has shifted entirely. This isn't an egregious offense. (That's a joke, in case you think it's condescending)

Instead of masking, you could've also have used this:

I've used it in the past to replace black banners with white ones for recording from STV

#34 Custom settings menu for TF2? in TF2 General Discussion
TheJesterApologies if I sound really ignorant, but I'm curious as to what advantages, if any, this has. Seems a lot more efficient just to use the console commands themselves.

I guess it makes it easier for those who aren't familiar with the exact commands, is that the intended audience for such a plugin?

It's actually fairly useful for the more complicated nuances such as turning ragdolls on/off without having to do lots of commands

#56 Powerjack update -> pyro viable in 6v6? in TF2 General Discussion

I don't understand why it's so popular to make vacant, supercilious comments such as these. The very least you can do is elaborate.
better than speaking pretentious nothings
"supercilious"

Uhh, supercilious is a word that fits perfectly. Other words, mostly those that are synonyms of arrogance, do not properly express the "holier than thou" (for lack of better words) aura that similar comments present.

And it's a poor defense anyway to say "ya but not as bad as u lololol"

I play pyro in HL at a platinum level.

I have yet to find a situation where pyro is a good option beyond defending last. Maybe it's because I'm still extremely new to 6s, but pyro is too slow, vulnerable, and has such a small range that it isn't really worth running.

#9 To Snipers on Unusuals in TF2 General Discussion

Jake used to complain on mumble all the time about people wearing the gibus or the pile of hats (except the modest pile).

Fairly certain he got over it but he complained about it for the longest time and would say that a sure fire way to not get headshot was wearing those.

Personally I just have trouble hitting the pumpkin head, everything else isn't particularly easier or harder

#40 Questions for video editors in TF2 General Discussion
dellortThe misinformation in this thread is amazing.

idk, I'm just speaking from my experiences with srcdemo2. Generally if I want to 3D solve a scene in AE, I have to turn motion blur off and use identity frames on srcdemo2. Otherwise it becomes a tedious task of removing 2D points throughout the entire scene and even then it isn't guaranteed to solve the camera.

Same with tracking in mocha. Motion blur and frame blending tend to make it struggle when tracking something and I have to spend lots of time readjusting and manually tracking for it to work to a level I'm happy with. It isn't a big deal with smooths, but with POV it's tedious.

#36 Questions for video editors in TF2 General Discussion

I don't like frame blending or motion blur. It makes tracking in mocha so much more difficult, and makes it pretty much impossible to 3D solve a scene

Also Czar, most frame blending plugins are to put intermediate frames for extreme slow motion. Twixtor is an example of this. Scrdemo2, on the other hand, compresses many frames into a singular frame. The result looks great while playing, but individual frames are blurry and scene analysis plugins struggle.

#21 Questions for video editors in TF2 General Discussion

I record all the POVs I feel I am going to use, or might use. I record these at 120 fps normally, and 240 fps if I want slow-motion. (This gives me ample room to breathe if I want to slow a clip briefly for syncing purposes)

I then search for a song. I usually have an idea in my head about the direction I want the video to take, so I search for the perfect song. It is the song that encapsulates everything that I want the video to express, and has ups and downs.

I load up the song in Vegas (though recently I switched to Premiere) and mark every beat I want to sync something to. This ends up being many many marks, and this is how many syncs I made for Frank West's frag movie. I then listen to the song over and over again, thinking of how the song makes me feel. I then find the perfect frag to fit the emotion I want to invoke at a certain section of a song, and put it in. Then I move on to the next section.

After I have a rough spacing of all the clips I want to use, I start smoothing. This is the most time-consuming process, but that's probably just because syncing smooths is a bitch and I'm particularly meticulous about it. I spend so much time that when it comes to smooths; I smooth, record a draft copy, and smooth again, trying to adjust the timing to coincide with the music (an entirely trial-and-error process that is absurdly time consuming)

Once I have all my footage recorded and synced, I go into After Effects and start doing all the transitions, color corrections, etc. My final render is done in After Effects via MainConcept h.264 while preserving RGB.
