Viaduct :)
Nice guy, skilled piper
There seems to be a lot of strong teams this season, I'm looking forward to many good games. Also tri is scouting.
I'd like to play gpit again. 5cp being the "main" game mode shouldn't blind us to the strategic depth of other modes.
kirbyI guess this is the most appropriate thread to ask, but what does anyone see in this HUD that makes it top tier?
In no particular order:
- Charge bars. From uber to the soldier banners, no other hud gives such a precise account of how your charge meters are doing. The massive uber bar across the bottom of the screen on medic was a personal favorite of mine when I used this hud (I've only ever used two for extended lengths of time, this was my first and now I use delihud).
On targe it even has coloration to reflect the +damage that will be rewarded. This was obviously more relevant when regular dmg/minicrit/crit were merely determined by charge depletion.
The bonk recharge bar is ticked so that, after drinking bonk, you know that its effects will end precisely as the recharge bar hits one of the tick marks.
- Team HP in tournament mode is really easy to read at a glance, which is the only way you really want to use that information in-game.
- I really liked the health meter as a bar rather than a cross. I always found the med cross a little misleading in the sense that your percentage HP =/= the percentage of the graphic that is filled. Each point of HP is equally valuable in theory, thus the bar-graph feel of gmang's HP display makes a lot of intuitive sense.
- Scoreboard is very high quality, the pertinent information is highlighted and the high translucency of the background means that your vision is only minimally obfuscated by checking tab (something that I do almost constantly in game).
- Top / Bottom ammo organization makes it very simple to find the information you are looking for with no possibility for confusion of in clip vs out of clip ammo.
Not that other HUDs are difficult to read or anything, but gmang rises above others because of the attention to detail in prioritizing information that players care about most. Its not the prettiest hud, but I (and I would surmise some other users of gmang hud also) never cared for those anyway. I'm also a fan of the font :p
For any roamer players or teams who are trying to take their (potentially first) season real seriously I'd be down to review a demo with yall if you'd like. I think that the help that I can offer is limited (especially to teams) but that it might be beneficial to some. Match demos + individuals are gonna be a priority.
Add me on steam (linked to my profile) and shoot me a message if you'd like to set it up.
Looks like the one of the more competitive seasons of esea tf2 that we've had in a while, should be fun :).

Has the seasonal registration deadline extension been used yet?
Pretty good unlock. Don't think it should be banned.
Gunboats make a similar opening for soldier to be played in two very different ways and most people consider 'boats to be one of the most balanced unlocks in the game.
Both grant mobility and increased hp, although gunboats just do so indirectly. The ability to buff a demo to 300 is cool but I'd say not especially amazing compared to 260. It makes demo a more specialized "mid range AOE damage dealer" and less of a generalist fragger. Of course demo is already tilted towards the former, but the ability of pipes to frag in situations that stickies are less effective in should not be discounted just because "booties make you deal more dpm".
EDIT: Team found.
I took a pretty long break from serious competitive play due to wanting to get settled in college. College isn't too time consuming for me though so I'd like to come back to play roamer in this game that I love.
I'm not incredibly concerned with divisions, what I do care about is finding a team with good aim, chemistry, and drive to improve together. That being said please don't ask me to play for your open sandbag team unless you are genuinely trying to climb the divisions together and just don't have an IM+ roster.
I am playing highlander this season, although it will almost certainly be my last of 9v9. HL will be done by 10est with the exception of Monday nights. On a macbook until January 17th (when I fly back to school and my pc), but I can play at about 80% of normal level I'd estimate.
EDIT Past achievements:
S14: 3rd Place Open
S16: 1st Place IM
S18: Not Last in Invite
