#70 The Future Of Competitive Team Fortress 2 in TF2 General Discussion

Lots of interesting and good points raised in this thread; it's a good sign of a growing scene, essentially. I'm more or less going to summarize what everyone has been saying, maybe to make our work on this more concise.

- Reaching out to pub communities, seeing how we can cross promote.
- Stuff like Tip of the Hats
- Teams staying alive, maybe even streaming more so they start to have fanbases themselves
- More people to make more consistent content for TF.TV
- enigma to be working on the site, 24/7 (jk, but he's definitely looked into making this page more accessible to newer people).

Does that sound pretty decent?

Now, my own OPINIONS on the future of competitive TF2:

I wouldn't be sitting here doing work on it and playing in it if I didn't think it would be dying. It's not going away any time soon. It's still slowly growing thanks to various efforts on part of everyone who positively pushes this scene a little bit further. Other MAJOR competitive scenes have even glanced at TF2 to see how it's doing (IPL is my go to example, there have been others too). And they'll keep looking as it keeps growing. At some point, someone is going to give it a try on the next level. That's when it really will matter what we do. Torbull and folks at ESEA are doing a decent job of keeping the level of competitiveness high, at least, and as we saw recently with Torbull being on Live on Three (djWHEAT's show), even TF2 is starting to get a couple big name eyes from outside of the scene).

In short, there is an incredible amount of potential, and we'll get there if people keep playing, keep innovating on our production and content, and the like. Valve's lack of participation is annoying, to be sure, but it is far from the end of the world. They haven't done anything to actively destroy the scene; it's just not their focus. But we can work around it. There are a ton of promising projects that are pushing the envelope (shoutout to bluee!) to REALLY put TF2 over the top.

#26 Competitive TF2 Guide to Everything in TF2 General Discussion

Not only that, I'm in charge of the literal Guide tab up there, so if you want this up here, you'll have to go through me at some point. Not to be harsh, but I want to make sure no one's work is getting duplicated, the whole guide is focused together and cohesive. Also, the writing styles need to all be a "guide" style, and unified. Either reach out to me, or lamefx.

gr8stalinDo you want the entire .odt I made back in 2011 when Gotfrag and places like CommunityFortress and MyGamingEdge were still things? As long as you credit War for at least half of the information, it's yours. It'll save you a lot of hassle and you can edit what you need to in order to bring it up to speed.

Can you pass that to me as well? I have a "spectator's guide" draft finished, and am gonna start a "playing 6s" guide soon.

#221 how do you think australia will do at i49 in TF2 General Discussion

Man, why do people keep talking about how small TF2 is?

THEN WHY DID IPL PAY ATTENTION TO US? WHY WOULD THEY TALK WITH ME IF IT WAS A JOKE? IDIOTS OF THE WORLD, LISTEN TO MEEEEEEEEEE, YOU'RE ALL SO WRONG

That'd be great. Betting with refs would step it up. Also, maybe a betting pool for roster changes by registration, as well. Or odds. Like, what are the odds that Reptile comes back and plays a match?

#10 The moment I yelled back at that CS player, on vid in TF2 General Discussion
capnfapnafter meeting mana at lanfest i never thought i would ever hear him all angry and shit

I pulled out the angry to shut him up, I was pretty calm through the whole thing. I'm definitely not NORMALLY like that, haha. EDIT: I should also add that I'm sitting there trying to analyze HRG and mix^ playing against each other, and he's just shouting his shit. I called him on it.

thrasherCS kids are the most annoying idiots I've ever met. At every LAN I've ever been too they are SCREAMING racial and homophobic slurs at each other after every single kill. The best way to beat them is just to be louder than they are. Any time I LAN with boulder, bulldozer, and Carl the fucking CS kids are silent lol.

Every time they yelled something like "Go back to Poland" or some shit, I would yell "THAT'S RACIST" as childishly as I could. That is incredibly rude of them, having visited some of those lovely countries.

martenlol, it got completely silent for a second

Pretty much. Poor lansky, got his little 12 year old ears violated by crude language. It's okay, lansky, everything will be fine, baby boy.

visitnigWat tick?

It's in the link, but the dude was shouting around 5:406:40-ish, I think. I got tired of his shit around 7:00.

EDIT: OR I HAVE NO IDEA

Thanks, Tagg.

Context: A CS player was being incredibly annoying. I wanted him to not talk anymore. I don't think the recording caught the part about the admins unable to stop me, but I'm surprised it's caught anywhere at all.

Lesson: Don't mess with TF2.

#6 The TF.TV i49 fundraiser, PART 2! in TF2 General Discussion
HandcuffedAre there plans for showmatches for fundraising?KerchEven though good progress has been made, $4000 of this $6000 was made in the first four days. The current rate of donations wouldn't be enough, so I think some kind of show-match event is needed (and fun to watch anyway).

There are plans for a show match! And it will be a good one. Details are still being worked out, but I'll make it happen.

A raffle would definitely be something interesting; going to discuss with the TF.TV elite more about it.

#1 The TF.TV i49 fundraiser, PART 2! in TF2 General Discussion

Hi guys! If you're unaware, I'm responsible for the i49 fundraiser located at http://i49.tf or http://igg.me/at/tf2i49.

Following HRG's awesome victory in the grand finals, it's a good time to bring up the i49 fundraiser.

We've raised $6064 out of our projected goal of $10800, which is ridiculously great. We still have more than a whole month so, we're pretty sure that reaching our normal goal is going to be easy enough.

As for the rewards and such, those will take place after the end of the fundraiser and you'll be contacted through Indiegogo to handle them (at some point, you will talk to a live person, likely me, to make sure that you correctly get your reward).

I'll open up this thread up for any questions you may have that aren't answered in the Indiegogo. I'll be updating the main Indiegogo page some time within the next week to reflect HRG's reception of this fundraiser.

What do you guys think of a page/group where all the tracks are guaranteed to be stream/frag video friendly, and presents music from our own TeamFortress.TV music producers? Suggestion thread.

#1 I want to try something: Music Production Mondays in Off Topic

EDIT: The SoundCloud group has been made. Feel free to join! https://soundcloud.com/groups/stream-fortress

I've been planning on getting back into music production (as well as streaming the process, now), and I figured it'd be cool to spread the idea, what with incoming RIAA restrictions on streams. Starting from next Monday (if things don't screw me over), I'm going to stream my music production, and most likely every week after (because I don't have much time to do so, otherwise).

The second (and optional) part/phase of this idea would be to make a group where we can post our tracks and have it be GUARANTEED that any of the music downloaded or purchased is able to be used royalty free on streams. This, if it goes successfully, will definitely give music producers more publicity and let streamers easily get awesome music without worries on constraints.

There's no criteria on the music in the group (of course!), so let's bring out all the styles.

I haven't created the SoundCloud group, but let me know if you want to take responsibility for it (or assist); I'm not too sure of my time to be able to manage it.

alec_is there any reason he went so high?

My theory is that kbk was just far enough behind tri that his model's head was showing.

#8 Urban lft Soldier Scout in Recruitment (looking for team)

I had the pleasure of meeting Urban first at Sacramento LANFest, and then the week later at ESEA LAN.

Incredibly nice, and optimistic. I really hope for a good team to pick him up. We're trying him out, for sure.
