Hello friends!

I want to get a new PC to play video games (not just TF2, also newer stuff) as well as being able to edit videos up to 4k. I think I might somewhat know the basics but I'm definitely not a PC expert so I'm asking for opinions on this setup. A friend recommended me to go with r5 3600x and RTX 2070 Super so that's what I went for for now, it's not a must though. This is pretty much at the higher end of my budget btw, can't really afford a lot more at this time.

https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/Lw9Bcq

A few other general questions:
Does the manufacturer of the GPU matter a lot (MSI, Gigabyte, Palit, Gainward, etc.)?
Is it better to get 2x16GB or 8x8GB RAM?
Is a regular air CPU cooler enough or is water cooling heavily recommended at this point?

Any help is greatly appreiciated!

No, the cooler and clockrates matter much more.
Do you mean 2x8 or 4x8GB? Fitting 8 sticks into 4 slots would certainly be a noteworthy achievement.
Unless you want to go for a crazy overclock watercooling is never necessary and it that case you'd need a much more expensive mobo to even get there. You also can't afford it. All-in-ones are never recommended because they don't do shit. https://www.teamfortress.tv/12714/pc-build-thread/?page=19#555
Honestly do you even plan on overclocking? I'd just drop the cooler and use the free stock cooler. Maybe even drop the X because the 3600's performance is so similar anyway.

Not a fan of the PSU considering what you can get for the same price.

Or less if you don't use pcp because it sucks outside of the US. https://geizhals.de/evga-supernova-g3-550-550w-atx-220-g3-0550-y2-a1549684.html

2070 non-Super or 5700 XT are also options if you want to save a bit of money.

whoops, yeah, I meant 4x8GB, just wanted to know if it makes a difference if you split the 32GB into 2 or 4 sticks.
Also I don't plan on using pcp, just saw it in this thread and it looked like a good way to list parts, I usually use mindfactory for PC building stuff.

Thanks a lot for your continuous help and support on this thread Setsul. Me and I'm certain many more truly appreciate it!

No difference in performance, so 2x16 GB is probably better just in case you want to upgrade later. Or 2x8 for that matter, but that might be cutting it close for 4K.

No problem, have fun building it.

It's me again, after a month and a half. Black friday is coming along so I might pick up my PC in a week. I have a few questions though.

- First and foremost, is the build good or should I change something (incompatible parts and whatnot)

- Does the PSU support the GPU? I randomly found something on reddit that says there's different kinds of pin connectors for various GPUs and PSUs, and I have no idea if the one in the build supports the gpu I picked

- Also, this one might be dumb as shit, but it's my first time building a pc - do I need to buy a separate cooler or is one included with the cpu or whatever? I know coolers can be added, but is it necessary to buy one right off the bat, or is it something optional? If one is required, what's a good price to shoot for and what should I be looking for (idc about RGBs or whatever, I just want a functioning one)

- Edit: Oh yeah also, is the sapphire pulse I picked good or should I pay an extra 35 eur for a sapphire nitro+. Or should I drop AMD entirely and go with a 2060 super or something

I don't know if that RAM is good for overclocking or something, but you should almost 100% look for much faster RAM, at least 3000mhz minimum.

The 3600 does incluce a cooler when you buy it, so you can try out the stock one and if you're not happy with temps/noise level you can buy a third party one.

The GPU should be absolutely fine with the PSU, as far as I am aware.

alright setsul brother, black friday/cyber monday is around the corner

this time i can step it up a notch and decided to potentially dish out my psu in favour of corsair sf 750w sfx, although im pretty sure silverstone ST45SF will work just fine granted it has 8+6 pin and i dont think i will reach even 350w despite 770 taking 230 of those

so, with SFX in the game, any more cases you got on your mind?

also got this bag, not lidl but hey, the dimensions, although kinda botched since i made those with a 20cm ruler are as followed: width ~17.5cm, lenght 43.5cm, height 29cm

edit: in fact, any sfx 450w will work, evga, seasonic, corsair, silverstone, theyve all got enough juice and pins, the sf750 was just the first thing that popped when i filtered sfx, and honestly i reckon 90% of my cpus value is a bit too much

For anyone looking for RAM that is cheap but good, get any micron memory with AES in the part number. I have a 3000 mhz kit, It's 70 dollars and will overclock past 4000 mhz. Currently I run it at 3600 mhz with cl14 17 17 34 timing with rock solid stability.

This is what I bought, but anything with AES uses the same chips. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MGPH9R9
there's no real reason to get anything else unless you're looking to spend in excess of 100 dollars on memory. it's pretty much a perfect fit for ryzen, and it's good value on intel as well.

The warning about the BIOS is accurate. The rest should work.
You've got enough connectors for two GPUs.
Cooler is included.
If you want a faster GPU get the Nitro+. If you want a slower GPU get a 2060 Super.

#3517
Yep.

#3518
Good.

#3519
Only 17.5 cm width and only 29 cm height mean there are almost no options. Silverstone ML09 would work. Or get a slightly larger bag so ~35 cm height and ~45 cm length or something like that would work.

Alrighty....I'm back....

So just managed to snag a couple things;
- 2080 Super (https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/computing-accessories/components-upgrades/graphics-cards/msi-geforce-rtx-2080-super-8-gb-ventus-xs-oc-graphics-card-10202179-pdt.html)

- 32gb Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) 3200mhz (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07GTG2T7L/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

- 9700k (https://www.scan.co.uk/products/intel-core-i7-9700k-s-1151-coffee-lake-refresh-8-core-8-thread-36ghz-49ghz-turbo-12mb-1200mhz-gpu-95)

Seemed to be pretty good pricing overall. The RAM I got from Amazon because RGB + had 25 quid in Amazon vouchers to use. Hopefully it's good enough....

Just wanted your opinion on a specific NVME SSD and a Motherboard. SSD would need to be 1TB at least. I'm clueless when it comes to motherboards, so any specific suggestion would help a lot - In terms of budget, would ideally not want to go over 350gbp combined for the SSD/Mobo, but can do if you think it is necessary.

Hi

My pc just died so I'm considering buying a new one. I already have a new gfx card and a power supply.

So I'm looking for a processor, motherboard and case I'm considering a Ryzen 5 3600X, looking for suggestions for the other stuff. Smaller is better, as I want to be able to bring it to LANs, but it obviously needs to fit all my stuff as well (one ssd, one hdd). Don't plan on using more than one gfx card (gtx 1060) or any other cards. Also don't plan on overclocking the processor so I think stock cooling will be fine.

Yeah, just for mobo and case that's more than enough. You should be able to pick pretty much any case you like.
How small do you want to go? Mini-ITX or just µATX? GPU length?

Actually 250-300€ or the equivalent in funny medieval currency?

Also does that mean you're reusing the RAM or does it just not count towards that budget like the 3600X?

I'm not sure if mini-atx is really possible since my gfx card length is 242 mm, but if it will save space compared to micro-atx then I would prefer that.

Does not count towards that budget, I'm mainly concerned about the size of the computer. I'll just buy a 16 GB RAM with reasonable clock speed and price.

Why would it not be possible? Fitting the PSU and cooler is more difficult.

So roughly 2500-3000 SEK.

It's a bit weird to not count the RAM and just hope it works out in the end but you do you.

There are quite a few options for the case.
The Raijintek Ophion would be a bit smaller but pcp doesn't list that. Ophion Evo is almost the same size as the Node 304.

The VRMs on that mobo are ok-ish, but as long as the airflow isn't completely nonexistent that should never become an issue. It's "only" a 6 core and you're not overclocking so they won't be taxed that much anyway.

The VRMs on that mobo are ok-ish, but as long as the airflow isn't completely nonexistent that should never become an issue. It's "only" a 6 core and you're not overclocking so they won't be taxed that much anyway.

Hi, I know absolutely nothing about pcs and am looking to buy a new one. I would like to get it in a smallish case so i can transport it easily. I have a budget of around £800-1000. I would like the pc to give me good frames when playing tf2 and dota, and that i can stream without it lagging loads. Any help is much appreciated :)

Define normal sized travel bag/suitcase. You could be a hobbit.

EDIT: Figured it out via Steam.

NEW PC (80 FPS)

CPU : AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core Processor, 3400 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)
GPU : Radeon rx580
16 GB of RAM
MOTHER BOARD : ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING

OLD PC (170 FPS)

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6402P CPU @ 2.80GHz, 2808 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
GPU: Radeon RX 480 Graphics
MOTHER BOARD : MSI B150M BAZOOKA (MS-7982)
8 GB of ram

At the other house i have a 4 year old prebuilt that runs at a constant 170+.
This one can run tf2 on 80 frames in pubs and can go up to 100 ish
Im running Comanglias highest frames.
I've got the driver installed for my GPU (AMD RADEON 2020)
I had a friend build this for me so i dont understand computers all that well. How much performance i should be expecting? And Is this normal?

No, that's not normal.
Check temperatures, wouldn't be the first time someone fucked up the cooler installation.

Any additional details for the RAM? It wouldn't be that drastic but it doesn't hurt to double check that it's set to the rated/maximum frequency since something has clearly gone wrong.

when ever i play tf2 my GPU temp is always below 50 c and my cpu is at a solid 45~c. when you mean RAM are you talking about VRAM? if you are, its clocked at 2000mz i've also put -heapsize 8388608 into my start up so should be using all my ram. here are my overclock settings, are they effecting my performance? gpu & cpu = https://imgur.com/a/iB9cWpI. I have barely touched them, i pretty much rage downloaded them cause i was getting low frames, also, i have not changed anything in my bios. i've checked my monitor to see if it was plugged into my onboard graphics and its not. I've made all games run on my dedicated graphics card so my integrated graphics isnt the problem. one thing ive also found is that on my old pc, i occasionally go under 100 frames, and even when that happens the game feels fluid and looks beautiful, on this pc i can stay at a steady 100 frames and it still feels like 60 fps .

Does anybody know what is the worst pc specs wise that with a config can run 6v6 tf2 on any map at a steady 144 fps plus?

#3536, https://forums.tomsguide.com/threads/how-to-force-the-use-of-my-dedicated-gpu-over-the-apu.131950/. From the ingame picture it looks like your gpu isn't being utilized for most of the time (potentially why it spikes upwards in your initial description. If that doesn't fix your problem ontop of a fresh graphics driver install, it might be a hardware issue. It's reporting back 54c temp but no fan speed.

#3537
well, with some potato tweaks in the form of cfg+lower res/4:3 i squeezed by with a i5-3550 clocked to 4.2ghz w/ a gt640 and a gt630 that would be overclocked.

if youre trying to go ultra budget, the gtx670 and higher go up for sale in the used markets around me for anywhere from 20-60$ and they hold their own even nowadays.

I'm not setsul, he is better than me at this and the one to follow when/if he answers your respective questions.

No, when I say RAM I mean RAM. What's the advertised/rated speed? 2400 MHz isn't great for Ryzen.
https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/September_20,_2010_Patch

Removed -heapsize command line argument.

That was 10 years ago. It was removed because idiots throwing random command line arguments around tended to break things.
100% fan speed at all times is certainly an interesting profile.
That CPU does not have integrated graphics so I'd be very surprised if you had managed to use a non-existant iGPU.

Is this on a fresh windows install or did you go the lazy and monumentally stupid way of just plugging in your old SSD/HDD as is?

#3537
Steady fps in tf2? I don't think so.
Otherwise see #3538. Just getting to 144 fps is possible with almost ancient hardware.

#3538
There is no iGPU in the 2600.
Turned off fan, <900 MHz, 54°C looks like normal idle state to me.

advertised speed is 2666mz --->https://www.newegg.com/team-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820331038?Description=team%20t%20force%20delta%20&cm_re=team_t_force_delta-_-20-331-038-_-Product
This is a completely fresh install of windows
I also found that my cpu only had 3 cores and 6 threads activated so i went into ryzen master and enabled them and now it shows 6 cores and 12 threads, only problem being that i cant open tf2, and only tf2, everything else is fine. I open the game and i get a dark blue screen, then my computer powers off and my gpu blinks red and white which makes me think that my cpu overheated except all the temps should be normal.
-noipx -novid -nocrashdialog -nojoy -noborder -refresh 144 -w 1920 -h 1080 +mat_forcehardwaresync 0 -useforcedmparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd -fullscreen +map_background preload_room -high -threads 12 -no3dex my launch settings.

Then try setting the RAM speed to 2666 in the BIOS. The motherboard manual should tell you how if you don't know. It's not guaranteed to work since that particular kit isn't explicitly listed in the supported memory list, but 2666 MHz isn't exactly awe-inspiring so it should work. Like I said not going to make much of a difference but you want to get what you paid for after all.

Fresh install is good. Did you install chipset drivers and so on as well?

Half the cores being deactivated is obviously not ideal. Did your friend do that? At least it's fixed now.

I'm not sure where the notion "more launch parameters = better" came from but it's wrong. Refresh usually either does nothing because the monitor already runs at that refresh rate or breaks things because the reason that just setting it via windows didn't work was that the monitor can't run at that refresh rate. Noborder is for windowed to make it look like fullscreen, which is obviously useless when you're using -fullscreen. And so on.
Some may make sense but for now remove them all, backup your config and run with -autoconfig.
