Yeah I did just change my flag because I don't want to inconvenience you any further
People want ECC and a couple guys said CUDA would be useful but so far nobody has said that they wanted double precision

I guessed your nationality already from the context. :D
Excellent, otherwise I probably would've went with AMD and then someone would've complained.
ECC isn't quite confirmed yet (but it has never been not supported) and I'm not sure which mobos support it (probably not all will) so I've got some research to do, but thankfully there'll be reviews soon.

SetsulYou picked the 650W, not me. ;-)
I've suggested two 550W, should still be enough even with the big Vega.
850 Pro now, not 850 Evo?
Yeah I was agreeing with you, and Imeant Evo :p
on one hand I'm kindof salty that they aren't releasing the R5 lineup until q2 but I'm also glad because I won't have to deal with all that early adopter bs that comes with buying new stuff on launch day.

There's too many fake flags around here, so I've got to ask: In which country are you actually going to buy the parts?
If you're actually in the Philippines I'll need a link to a shop, or even better to a price comparision site.
I'm guessing it's not urgent, so I'd wait a bit for the Zen 6 and 4 core CPUs.
What fps/settings/resolution are you going for?
Do you need peripherals? Monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc.?
- I don't actually live in the Philippines (I was just born there). I live in the US.. looking to spend US dollars.. in US stores.
- I'd love to play games smoothly with 200+ fps, and the resolution doesn't matter that much to me. I also plan on getting a 144hz monitor.
- Yes I need peripherals as well, but buying those should not affect my $800-1k budget.

When are you looking to build it? (Zeeeeeeeen)
Overclocking yes/no?

- Yes, those don't count towards the budget (I have a separate budget for the peripherals)
- How long will the wait be for the zen exactly? And will it be worth the wait? If so, mind explaining why?
- No, I don't really like overclocking :/

8 cores next week, rest later, officially "Q2", no exact date yet.
330$ for 8 cores/16 threads instead of getting 4 cores/8 threads for 312$ or 8 cores/16 threads for just 1089$ is kind of a big deal.

Hey Setsul I'm pretty much definitely going to buy a 1700 when zen hits, do you recommend preordering or is there essentially no reason to do so?

If you want to build asap then you can preorder it to circumvent any price hikes when stocks run low.
What for some motherboard reviews though.

Maybe not the right thread, but since I built my new PC I haven't been entirely satisfied with the audio.
I wired up the case's front audio connectors to the HD Audio (instead of AC97).
If I push my 3.5mm headphone jack in all the way it sounds super echoey, but if I pull it out halfway it sounds "normal"...
Edit: same thing happens if I connect it to the headphone jack on the back too :D
Ingame I feel like there is a noticeable difference compared to the old Creative XFi card I had used for over a decade, it is much harder to pinpoint where sounds are coming from and there is excessive bass.
Should I use AC97 instead of HD Audio? Have I wired something up wrong?
Do I need an amp now? (The old Creative card had a front panel where I plugged shit in)

Anyone here want to try water cooling? Ive got a water blocked gtx1080 in the box for sale, 550$.
Also got an x99 mobo and some nice dominator corsair ram.

Why did you stop using your soundcard?
That mobo uses a fairly bad onboard sound chip. Fairly bad by onboard sound standards, which are terrible.

I wasn't necessarily going to ditch it, wanted to try onboard audio. Then I realised it's an old PCI card and doesn't fit in the new mobo.
I guess then I would like to buy a new sound card :D
Old one had a front panel wth volume control, big headphone jack, optical out (connected to ancient Creative 5.1 speakers).
I'm interested to getting a better recording setup the streaming/casting/etc currently rocking modmic v1
Recommend me a soundcard, mic, amp - no particular budget in mind

Having anything audio related and "no budget" appear in the same sentence is just an invitation for r/audiophile to rape your wallet.
I have no clue about the amp requirements of the modmic 1.0.
Whether or not you need an amp depends on your headphones.

I mean I would upgrade from the ModMic to something better perhaps? Like a big ass desk mic.
Headphones are Sennheiser HD595
Yeah maybe I'll make a new thread and ask some audio nerds :D

I don't like desk mics because no one needs to hear your keyboard.
I can't be trusted with unlimited audio budgets either, so yeah, I'm probably not the right person to talk to about this.

I wouldn't reccomend doing that. I would recommend just getting a rx 480 8gb with like premium features, and you'll end up paying 40 dollars less for nearly the same perfroamnce, because of updated drivers.

So far it seems like Zen doesn't really OC beyond 4.1.
However that combined with a pretty good stock cooler means you can actually get the 1700 to 4.0-4.1. Sure, not as high as Broadwell-E can go, but anything multithreaded the 6800K and 6850K still get shit on thanks to the 2 additional cores.
6900K wins in some benchmarks, loses in others. Wins in a few more oc'd vs oc'd. Including mobo/cooler for oc costs 4 times as much. 6950X should be faster but costs >5 times as much, everything included, unless you don't oc but then the lower clockrate eats up the higher core count.
#2179
Depends on why you're upgrading.
Also check if your PSU got 6/8 pin connectors for a GPU.
RX 480 is a thing.

I'm not setsul, but I question why you would get a processor, when you can get the same performance for less with newer processors, albeit at barely better levels.
Edit: Oh okay sorry, i'm an idiot.

It's not a new build. The build I posted is the current build I've owned since 2015. What I'm asking is if I can upgrade the gpu, 750ti to 1070, and psu, shitty corsair 430w to evga g3 650w, without causing any problems.

You know about the whole EVGA 1070/1080 VRMs catching fire/exploding?
Your current PSU would be fin. 650W is definitely overkill though.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/DPCwrH/seasonic-power-supply-ssr550rm
And that's just because it's cheaper than the 450W atm.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/sMM323/evga-supernova-g3-550w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-220-g3-0550
If you insist.
I'm not going to explain bottlenecking again. Depends on the game. In TF2 your CPU is already the bottleneck.
What do you mean "wait until you have nough to buy every part"?

I'm assuming you'd benefit from more cores then? Zen is a thing now. 330$ for 8 cores > 410$ for 6 cores.
Obviously waiting for SKL-X doesn't hurt.
Vega will also be a thing by that time so you may or may not regret the 1070.

I know zen is a thing now, but by the time I have enough to buy the parts, it would be best to just wait for skylake-x.
Vega isn't being released until 2-4 months from now, and with the prices of nvidia being lowered, I think I should just buy the 1070 now.
Though my question is, will my current hardware, which I posted in #2182, be able to support the 1070? Or should I just hold off on buying the 1070 and continue to save up until I can buy the parts I listed in #2186 (obviously with the successor to 6800k).

Yes, I mean don't forget that there are other options than SKL-X.
Vega should be released before SKL-X and unless something goes horribly wrong there will be price drops.
Yes, the 1070 will work.
I'd recommend holding off if you can because price drops.
It doesn't have to be the successor to the 6800K. We know neither prices nor core count nor clockrates nor IPC (because SKL-X is quite different from SKL).

What are the other options than skl-x? I know about kabylake-x, but that's only 4 cores (based off a quick google search) and I need the additional cores if I plan to single pc stream.

Zen, because I'm pretty sure it will still exist later this year.
