Esea website is aids
I didn't play the first season of ESEA EU but I wanted to, I don't want to play the second season tho. And there is nothing you could say that could change my opinion unless the whole management of the league was replaced. Just the fact that the Head of esea was distributing 10 year bans to people who didn't agree with him or called him out it's enough for me to avoid that league, not mentioning the other obvious reasons

You say that as if you're really opposing esea. The thing is, if you were on a team which you enjoyed playing with that wanted to play in a competitive league (ESEA), which is pretty much the only competitive 6s league in NA I can almost guarantee you would end up playing. I think the majority of players strictly opposing ESEA are ones not even playing in the league, heck some people I see making posts here don't even play on a team. Sure there are some instances where players have been screwed over season after season, I'm not denying that. I just find it hilarious how players who don't even play on a team say "I'm switching to cevo stop playing esea guys" meanwhile they aren't even playing on a team. :/

yeah, this seems to be a huge percentage of the population who is vocal about switching to CEVO. Either players who have never played in ESEA before or players who are not currently on a team.
I'm going to continue to play in ESEA because after some thought I'd rather stay in ESEA a season too long than jump to CEVO a season too early. If after this season it seems like CEVO is the better league, I'll consider making the switch. For now, I know what I'm getting with ESEA, and I'm ok paying the fees that they charge for a truly competitive league.
As for the "lpkane is a dick" argument: I don't like the CEOs of most companies that I buy things from. I believe it takes a special kind of asshole to be successful in business, and lpkane is no different. As long as I'm not interacting with him on a personal level and instead get to work with people like Killing and Kalkin (all of my interactions with both of them have been positive. I guess they have negative reputations out there in the community, but until I see it personally, I'm cool with them) then I'm fine giving my business to ESEA.

I've played in CEVO, UGC (I kinda ran that 6s thing for a while), and ESEA.
For better or worse ESEA has been the most pleasing of that bunch to play in.
It would take a lot to move me back to CEVO after what was done there in the past. I can put up with being completely unaffected by secret malwares, LPkane being a douche to St. Patrick and Fzero, and being asked to pay like 25$ a season to ensure that I get to play tf2 in a format that is at least slightly not a cluster fuck, and that the season actually happens. Oh, not to mention the secret pleasure I derive from bothering Killing and/or Kalkin several times a season for no real reason whatsoever.
Never forget playoff default day December 26th. Never forget the 5 times delayed Vanilla tournament, oh wait, I mean surprise season.

At the very least people should try to play in both. If everybody who's saying "yeah I'm going to stick with ESEA until CEVO gets better" just switched over, CEVO would suddenly be the obvious choice for competition. Instead, we have to do this terribly slow grind of trying to convince people to play in the other league, and most people won't want to go through the effort. If everybody just played in both (replace a night of scrims with a CEVO match?) then we would easily be able to figure out which service is going to benefit us in the future. Why is everybody so short-sighted?

We tooootally won't fuck you guys over THIS time
We promise!
Reminder that the ESEA client has the ability to go through your computer, change and alter files, and basically do anything it damn well pleases. Also reminding everyone how how many times ESEA has fucked people over. Also bitcoins. Also lies.
People are going to CEVO for a reason. The only reason I could see someone staying is Stockhold Syndrome.

I played in the season 1 reboot of CEVO, and I've followed season 2. It's not very pretty. I'm not willing to start giving my money to them just because of a bunch of big promises. Like atmo just said, talk is cheap, and it works both ways. I'll keep paying for ESEA because I know what I'm getting. I'll pay for CEVO when I know that I'm not going to have 8 out of every 10 matches be a ffw. If there are other people out there who are willing to take the risk, that's great, and I hope as much as anyone that CEVO succeeds and is a great alternative for TF2, but it's not a leap that I personally am willing to make yet.

To be fair, any program you download could do that without you knowing. The important thing is that the client goes places it probably doesn't belong, and now it's known rather than just being a possibility.

Why would anyone want to invest their own money and time into a company that stole, lied, censured and mocked it's own customers - is beyond me.

The best part about that post is it works best ways.
Talk from CEVO is cheap, I am not convinced they will provide a good alternative to ESEA until they prove it.
ESEA's talk is cheap cause there are plenty of small easy changes they could make season after season that they never have.

CEVO didn't lie, for a start. It's like you broke up with a lying partner, so you don't really trust the new one. It's not really fair do judge them with same eyes.

It's not that I don't trust CEVO, I'm just not convinced they will be able to rival ESEA's services. No other NA league has, just look at UGC and old CEVO.
I don't really want to come out pro one way or the other because I don't play 6s, but...
I think CEVO is going about this the wrong way. It was very similar when we tried to get highlander started with them. I think trying to overthrow an established organization by offering the same service or less is fundamentally flawed. The ONLY benefit they have going in is that a lot of you guys (justifiably) don't like ESEA anymore.
CEVO did exactly nothing besides add a highlander section on their site to help get that going. Whitelist, rules, teams, servers, everything... it was all handled by the community. From what I experienced there was zero outreach to established teams and players to give them any reason to join. This was to a much smaller degree than the current ESEA fiasco, but they were still banking solely on the fact that people didn't like UGC.
There was little (nothing, really) done to give anyone a reason to not play UGC and start playing CEVO. No prizes, no divisions, no incentive. You guys are a little further along with prizes in 6s, but you still have the same if not better offered by your alternate league, which was the same issue with HL.
I always suggested starting smaller (tournament or cup with some sort of prize or buy-in), trying to attract the best and most popular teams, and going from there. Instead, for HL they dropped a season directly on top of UGC's season (even default match times were within an hour of UGC). It was the same "if we all leave it'll be ok, but there's no chance in Hell we're all going to leave because everyone is already here" type of deal. We had some people move over or try to play both, but nobody took CEVO seriously once it started and there wasn't much to it. Looks like that is happening again.
Again I'm not pro ESEA, but I don't think what CEVO is offering will be very good at all. My team played CEVO HL because we wanted that to work to, but it didn't and this doesn't strike me as very different. I think the best thing that can come from this is ESEA straightening up and improving their service.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If everyone adopts Owl's attitude then CEVO never will get off the ground and it will just be a bunch of forfeits. See, they need teams to go and play in the league. You can't say later down the road "I didn't sign up and good thing because look at all the forfeits lol" That's a circular problem. Also you say you know what you're getting with ESEA and while that's mostly true I guess you don't entirely know how hard they're going to be hit by the potential exodus. The divisions might be a good deal smaller now and the season may have an overall smaller feel than previous ones. TF2 does not need ESEA to stay alive. You think tons of people join the game from tuning into LAN finals between CS matches or something? More like tf.tv, twitch, tf2 outpost, that is where the exposure is. I am just blown away by how much poor treatment people are willing to put up with for very little in return. You're giving them your money for fuck's sake.

That very well may be true, but it doesn't change my stance. CEVO offers me nothing that ESEA does not. There are bad business practices everywhere in the world. It doesn't bother me that much that ESEA follows some of those same practices. I try to look at where my money goes in terms of how it will benefit me, not how it will benefit the company, because there aren't many businesses in America that are really "good", so looking at the negatives of those companies just gets depressing.
When CEVO can offer me something that ESEA cannot, that's when I'll make the switch. Until then, I'll put my dollars where I feel I can get the most return. Others may have a different stance on it, and they are certainly entitled to their views.

owl i like you and i think you're a smart guy but if you found out a restaurant was putting rat poison in the food, would you continue to eat there? and cevo does offer something that esea doesn't, being a client that isn't fucking malware.
i honestly think if your property was damaged as a result of the bitcoin shit, your view would be very different. my computer's hardware wasn't destroyed as a result of the esea client, but the fact that its possible and that it had access to the computer it was being used on without authorization or knowledge of it is what bothers me and enough of us to want to switch to cevo, regardless of the difficulties it may bring.

CEVO will have plenty enough teams as it is from the sounds of it. I wouldn't be *especially* opposed to participating in CEVO if whatever team I end up on wanted to. Would I choose to myself? No. I've experienced CEVO before as I mentioned in my previous post, and they made it impossible to play TF2, so I'm biased against them for that. It was one of the deciding factors of my own efforts to improve UGC 6s because CEVO had completely imploded and alienated the entire community.
If this season isn't a disaster, my opinions might change, but I'm not particularly predisposed to going back. So far all they've got to offer me is my bad memories of being forced into playing a match that was ostensibly supposed to occur the day after Christmas, and paying into something that never really happened and a season that consisted of like 10 actual matches under their belts, so I see no reason to try and tar ESEA further than it has already managed to do to itself, but at least in my own case, they've never prevented me from playing video games.

Most people I have talked to will play where the competition is. If a lot of strong competition signs up for CEVO, my team will play in CEVO. Otherwise, we will stay in ESEA. I think it is as simple as that for most teams. I guess no one wants to commit to CEVO first because if it doesn't work out they basically sit out a season of good games?
can i not get 70-90 ping to dallas servers when i live in dallas please
Not sure if it's been mentioned but in addition to the routing issues many people have to esea servers, there should be actions taken place against ddossers to prevent ddossing to happen again.
Just me being selfish, but I really want to watch a final whether it would be open, im, or main without delays.

Ignoring everyone spouting "malware!" and "ruined my trust", there's actually legit reasons to play in CEVO instead of ESEA.
CEVO won't have a dumb premium service that you never use, and more money will be going into the prize pot.
CEVO will use sizzling stats instead of the dumb ESEA stats.
CEVO client is simply the bare requirements they need to enforce their rules.
Personally this is why I'd play in CEVO rather than ESEA (if I wanted to pay to play my free videogame)
