How's the difficulty of schedules and the new matchups thus far?
Had a FFW and got rolled on Viaduct week, one of the gully teams was dead and we're playing the other gully match tonight so we'll see how that one goes.

Have you guys been improving a ton since you've started playing in the season?
Yes. I know I still suck at movement and avoiding direct rockets to the face but my gamesense / keeping track of enemy shootsters has grown tremendously and I'm not pressing W so much in flank.

What has stopped you from improving, if something is?
I should be watching demos / STVs of our matches and scrims more than I am currently which is 0. I'd like to have a team demo review or map walk-through night once a week but we barely get 2 nights per week for our scrims + matches due to personal schedules.

Has anything on ESEA caused trouble while playing?
Nope! Everyone got the client to work for the very first match which was a pleasant surprise

How do you feel about playing in ESEA?
Reading the other replies lets me know that I'm not alone in wishing that other teams wouldn't die. Sure it's not fun rolling / getting rolled but the second half of the season was for fighting teams close to us in skill level.....right?

A few on the team have participated in PUGs (shoutout to sezco b4nny and truktruk) after matches some nights so those are fun / rewarding as well.

What has made you guys improve?
griffin yelling at everyone

IncoDreamboatInco, are you going to play a game this season where the losing team gets a round?I wouldn't be surprised if it happens this week.

Well I know we won't 5-0 you guys and I would be surprised if we can't get a round from you

How's the difficulty of schedules and the new matchups thus far?

Hard to say. It's certainly not been easy, but I don't want to bitch to much about the schedule. It's not been easy, and it hasn't been prohibitively difficult.

Have you guys been improving a ton since you've started playing in the season?

Honestly, no. We've definitely improved, but imo not that much. Most of our real improvement has been reassessing maps and what people are doing on them currently. We've all been playing together for awhile now anyway, so most of our quick improvement was early on. It's been much slower growth since then.

What has stopped you from improving, if something is?

Well, like I said, we've already played together for awhile so the things left for us to improve are the hardest to improve, or potentially impossible with current team make-up. Some level of time constraints has held us back. We scrim plenty, but whenever we go over a map it takes a really long time and people have a hard time committing to a full on map review to make sure we're all 100% sure what the team wants to do on the map. Everyone tends to know the overall meta, but figuring out all the small things that swing games is hard and takes a lot of time. Or figuring out which scout we want where, what forward hold we want to go for on Viaduct, all that sort of stuff can take a lot of time to talk out with the team assessing the pros and cons it has with what we have to work with.

Has anything on ESEA caused trouble while playing?

No, not really. We all got the client working first day. One team member plays on a non-admin Windows account so he has to switch every match time to his admin account, and that was really the only problem when we first started because he couldn't figure out why his ESEA client wasn't working. The ESEA server freezes sucked, too, but that was a problem for everyone. A minor gripe, but it's not ESEA's fault really, is that our team is all over the continent. 2 Pacific Northwest players, 2 Texans, 1 New Englander, and 1 Georgian. I know I wish one day I could play on a team that always has low ping, but that definitely won't happen for me because I'm up in Washington and everyone wants to play in Chicago and Dallas.

How do you feel about playing in ESEA?

It's fine and fun. Most of the fun is the scrims for me. I just enjoy playing 6s, and ESEA keeps all 6 of us motivated to keep scrimming. If we weren't in ESEA no one would feel the need to play 6s all the time which is the main draw for me.

What have you noticed about your team that has made it very fun?

I enjoy hearing the reactions of my usually-quiet scout. He's a quiet, DM-focused scout, but occasionally he just says the most ridiculous stuff and it's the most entertaining part of my night.

Same question, but what has made you guys improve?

Map reviews and reinforcing class roles. Sometimes people just don't notice that they overstepped their bounds by a minor amount that let a scout through the flank, or I as demo took a step slightly too far forward which got me bounced into the choke and getting myself killed. And obviously scrims tend to make us improve.

How's the difficulty of schedules and the new matchups thus far?

The new schedule has been odd. There have been ffw's and just a game where we ran a completely different lineup than normal and we got rolled (my computer died at the time).

If your team died (I know a couple have), what happened (please keep it civil)?

Nah My team has been around forever since ugc and we won't be dying.

Have you guys been improving a ton since you've started playing in the season?

We have definitely improved since the start and it always feels like we're really close to something good and we kinda goof it up. But our scouts who are the least experienced have definitely stepped it up.

What has stopped you from improving, if something is?

The only thing that has hindered improving is our main callers work schedule getting a lot tougher. Scrims without him are a lot worse.

Has anything on ESEA caused trouble while playing?

Only one time there was a bit of ESEA trouble but once an amdin got back to us we played our match (1-5 loss lol)

How do you feel about playing in ESEA?

We really enjoy ESEA and the challenge and trying to improve.

What have you noticed about your team that has made it very fun?

My team doesn't get angry and we are always game to play whoever even if we're gonna get rolled. We'd rather get stomped than ffw.

Same question, but what has made you guys improve?

Since everyone is so game for everything they show up for map talks and scrims and it's worked out really well.

Hello, I am Tetro of the Owls.

How's the difficulty of schedules and the new matchups thus far?

We had some fun matches but I would have really liked to play a more even mix of teams in the first half. I'm not sure if esea did this on purpose or whatever but it seems like they split the schedule so a lot of the (now) top 10 teams never played each other.

Have you guys been improving a ton since you've started playing in the season?

Yeah, it was tough for us (me, bear, sigh) to get caught up and used to the competition at first but I think we've improved dramatically even though Tes still says we are bad.

What has stopped you from improving, if something is?

Sometimes it's hard for us to criticize some of the more experienced players on our team since we really don't know that much. They kind of have to identify and fix their own problems and ours at the same time so that's hard.

Has anything on ESEA caused trouble while playing?

Nah.

How do you feel about playing in ESEA?

It's been a riot imo but we need to get some of these players out of open.

What have you noticed about your team that has made it very fun?

We aren't allowed to have fun on my team because air is always angry and owl doesn't care about getting better.

Same question, but what has made you guys improve?

We've been doing a lot of scrims every night and trying to identify what we can improve that's not just dm. We had a couple really nice high level players (you know who you are :]) help us out with some theorycrafting too so that was awesome.

Get what teams out of open? Aside from Seendio who don't have any access to an IM roster, most of these teams really wouldn't win more than a game or two in IM. Unless you were talking about getting the bottom teams back to UGC which doesn't make any sense.

guado, muffin men, and syops would all get more than 2 games in IM and seendio would be on the playoff bubble at worst

i think seendio would be in playoffs for sure even if they werent top 5

Hai I am the leader of Stevey Tee (4-6-0) and here are my answers to the questions.

How's the difficulty of schedules and the new matchups thus far?
So far it has been alright. My team cannot play Mon and Wed so that can be an issue with some teams. But overall, no major problems.

If your team died (I know a couple have), what happened (please keep it civil)?
Team is still alive and will most likely be playing through the entire season.

Have you guys been improving a ton since you've started playing in the season?
Yes, definitely. Being able to scrim as a team has helped our team chemistry.

[What has stopped you from improving, if something is?
Lack of practice. 2 of my teammates can't scrim 2 of the weekdays due to school sports and another was an idiot and crammed all his classes to only Wednesday and Thursday. Also our team can be very inconsistent, especially our scouts. And on top of the couple days that we can scrim, people have family dinners... so that's great to deal with.

Has anything on ESEA caused trouble while playing?
Just one time where the server never got set up (admin did fix it for us though).

How do you feel about playing in ESEA?
Great. So much more competitive and my teammates do take it more seriously.

What have you noticed about your team that has made it very fun?
Being able to play with friends that I have know for the longest time.

Same question, but what has made you guys improve?
Playing as a team and being able to point out each others flaws. After every scrim I point out some mistakes my team does and they do the same for me.

tl;dr I get super salty and angry at times, but I love every single of my teammates to death and do not regret playing with them this season at all.

Honest question, why doesn't ESEA schedule by rank every week like other leagues do? Everyone would get closer matches after two or three weeks of randomness. Fewer matches would get scheduled against dead teams, and potentially fewer teams would get rolled and demoralized.

They do schedule by ranking, but it's a bit delayed. They schedule four weeks at the beginning of the season, which is similar to the randomness you'd see at the beginning in a true Swiss system, and then they schedule based on your current standings a week in advance, so your Week 5/6/7/8 matches are determined by your standing at the beginning of Week 4/5/6/7.

Of course, a team may very well die due to the week or more delay, but matches have to be assigned that far in advance since the scheduling window begins exactly a week before the match start and ends exactly 24 hours before the match start.

Do you think a compromise between week-by-week and advance scheduling would be an improvement? Like scheduling in 2 week blocks instead of 4 week blocks?

From what I've heard (I'm not a veteran so I couldn't tell you), they used to only schedule the first two weeks, and then the remaining six weeks were done by the same week-by-week scheduling done right now for the last four weeks.

Why they moved to the four-week initial scheduling period is unknown to anyone around here - you'd have to ask ESEA.

How's the difficulty of schedules and the new matchups thus far?
The first half was difficult, 5-0's every game, but the second half looks much more promising.

If your team died (I know a couple have), what happened (please keep it civil)?
Won't die.

Have you guys been improving a ton since you've started playing in the season?
I think we are improving quite a bit even though we are still making mistakes. However, we're not doing enough demo reviews as I'd like to and we end up making the same mistakes each game even if we identify the problem. A lot of the issues we have seem to be team coordination problems.

What has stopped you from improving, if something is?
Again, probably not doing enough demo reviews.

Has anything on ESEA caused trouble while playing?
Only thing I can think of is the server issues in the very beginning, but now everything is good.

How do you feel about playing in ESEA?
Coming from UGC, ESEA definitely has a different feel to it. It's more serious and players are a lot more reliable in terms of showing up for matches and scrims.

What have you noticed about your team that has made it very fun?
I enjoy learning together as a team. We're all new to ESEA and it's very fun to just see us develop as a team. Sometimes we're confused about what to do in situations and just rolling with a certain play is fun for me.

Same question, but what has made you guys improve?
Watching demos and occasionally having higher level players watch us or our demos and listening to their advice was incredibly helpful.

Improved a lot: yes.
Glad we did it: yes.

ESEA has been pretty good in terms of the system. Our matches last week and from now onward are all looking to be close, which makes this videogame a ton more fun.

Only problem: never schedule and lead. Don't do it. You will lose all sanity. If everyone refuses to do either, you should honestly just put down your foot and force the issue; initial conflict over this would be much better than the headache you'll have all season.

Improved a lot: yes.

thesupremecommanderFrom what I've heard (I'm not a veteran so I couldn't tell you), they used to only schedule the first two weeks, and then the remaining six weeks were done by the same week-by-week scheduling done right now for the last four weeks.

Why they moved to the four-week initial scheduling period is unknown to anyone around here - you'd have to ask ESEA.

S11-S14 was first 6 matches. It's dumb they have first 8.

My team. Well after the mid season crisis of cutting our med and 2 other players leaving, our team has vastly improved. Monkeysuit has seen the potential so he has decided to play scout, and we are looking pretty good. We have beaten 6 out of the 8 teams we've scrimmed that are currently top 16 in power rankings. We beat syops twice, but we rang delpo on pocket and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they were having a bad day (dflame had some shitty stats). Other high open teams that want to scrim add me here to schedule.

And to clear any misconceptions
This is not what I wanted nor planned on happening. I wanted to play my first season of open with some friends, then some fucking dumb shit happened, and now my team is stacked, and I'm surrounded by players better than me. I didn't cut anyone that I didn't think needed to be, people just left. I probably would still have cereal and evening on my team if they didn't leave.

On to the questions.

How's the difficulty of schedules and the new matchups thus far?
Pretty easy. Since our team changed on a 3-5 note, we are playing teams around 3-5 level, although with this roster I think we are more of a 6-2 type of team.

If your team died (I know a couple have), what happened (please keep it civil)?
Well it didn't die but it got pretty close. I cut out med due to his attitude and 2 other players left because of me cutting him/our performance/other factors.

Have you guys been improving a ton since you've started playing in the season?
I can't speak for us as a team because roster changes, but I think me currently would shit on me 2 months ago by a large margin.

What has stopped you from improving, if something is?
At the moment alosec is having issues with connecting to NFO servers (no idea, he was talking to tragic for hours trying to fix it) so we've had to ring people a lot. I think we are still getting better but it still is a hindrance.

Has anything on ESEA caused trouble while playing?
not really, I guess the occasional server lag but that's mostly gone now.

How do you feel about playing in ESEA?
It's miles more fun than UGC. I've played 1 season in UGC and I can't say I miss it. Everyone seems to give a shit and people actually scrim. Also it's a lot harder to get fucked over in scheduling.

What have you noticed about your team that has made it very fun?
Everyone is super chill. No one gets mad at one another and we all are trying to fix our flaws.

Same question, but what has made you guys improve?
Scrimming for 5 nights a week. We have had to have a ringer for a lot of it, but me personally, I feel I improved a shit ton just DM wise. And I'm finally starting to not just die for no reason.

Sorry for wall of text :-\
